Picture if the day.
Now for today’s Stuff:Besides realizing 87 years have past so fast, I am not surprised by a lot. However, this super storm that is delivering 10 or more inches of snow on our home base in NC, has now forced me to disconnect the water from this RV here in central Florida to keep it from freezing up. We will drop to the mid 20 degrees F (about 4.444 celcius) tonight. That is an ouch, to a Southerner.
Yeah I know, it ain’t nothing to you guys up YONDER!
I am smiling, we have learned to take life as it comes. It doesn’t always suit our fancy, but LIFE is real. That is, until like one song says, “you are covered up with flowers in the back of a black limousine!”
I just read on Valdese history that the owner Mr. O'Quin, hated the name Rat Hole the kids called it, but after a year fell in line and smiled at the name.. He had a sweet daughter that worked behind the counter, about my age, Anna, who was a sweetee.
AS I try to compose this entry I am having a chocolate nut sundae! I had my first one in Valdese, NC at the ‘Rat Hole’. Yep, that was the best little cafe’ in town (maybe the only one). The Sundae was 35 cents and mmmmm delicious. They always used black walnuts; this one tonight has black walnuts, cracked and picked out by Sherry and me.
Above is Sherry's Sundae much smaller than mine ;-)
Valdese is a small town in the edge of the South Mountains founded by the Waldensian people from Italy. It was a Hosiery Mill town with a giant Waldensian Bakery. When we moved into the town the first thing I noticed was the whole town smelled good, the fresh smell of honey buns baking.
I think I did the 7,8 & 9th grades there. It is a wonderful small town, great people.

PS: Now Good night ;-)

Again I loved your history, intertwingled with real history. I had never heard of that city, and I can imagine the smell of an entire city smelling the same way with baked goods. Yummy. I don't like walnuts Jack, but they are so good for you. It is cold in GA too!
Yes, it is very cold in Georgia too, I agree with Chatty Crone! A town that smells like honey buns? Heavenly!
We warmed up to 20 degrees mid afternoon!! :)
The sundae looks yummy. Not having a sundae but will be having some ice cream later!
We here in Montreal, Canada have had very cold 🥶 weather as well 😀
It is a bit warmer today.
I love Winter so for me I just dress warmly and enjoy it. The only thing for me is that I am not comfortable going out if there is a lot of ice.
Gosh, that black walnut sundae looks delicious! Those nuts have a flavor all their own, don't they? It's been 100 years since I enjoyed a store-bought ice-cream treat. If memory serves it was an honest-to-goodness ice cream shop in downtown Denver my daddy took me. Memories warm a body, don't they?
Now I want a hot fuge sundae with walnuts. I don't have any Black Walnuts (they are harder to find), but I do have some English Walnuts in the freezer. I don't always eat ice cream anymore due to dietary issues, or the chocolate either, but still, that looks and sounds good and now I want one. LOL. Thanks. Love the memories you shared. That town sounds yummy! LOL. Enjoy our Florida winter weather. Hopefully it won't last much longer. Please???
We had some snow flurries for a short while. Jarin and I sat in my car with the heat on and watched it for a little while. 😂 Hope you all are staying warm. Much love, Sheila
I was shocked when I saw the temps down south and all the snow in NC. I've heard some up here in the north who deal with this kind of weather this time of year think it's funny, or don't have sympathy for the south. Well, I say a pox on your heads if you find this deserving or whatever. I feel really bad for Florida and any area not used to this crazy stuff. It's dangerous and hard when there aren't snowplows, salt trucks, or anything to help. Hang in there and prayers for those suffering. I hope this clears up quickly and gets back to normal. Now about that delish looking sundae Jack and Sherry....yummy!
