Just a good story

A heart warming story that has a beautiful ending! You may have read this, I never had. I just wanted to pass it along:

A Goose Quacked And Pecked At A Cop’s Car. When He Followed Her, He Couldn’t Believe What He Saw!

Officer James Givens has served with the Cincinnati Police Department for over 26 years, but has never quite experienced anything like this before. He was sitting in his patrol car in a parking lot when he got an unexpected visitor. A goose came up to his car and started pecking on the side of it. He threw food out for her, thinking that’s what she wanted, but she didn’t take it. 

She continued to peck and quack, then walked away, stopped, and looked back at Officer Givens.  Then she came back to his car and pecked at it again.   She made it very obvious that she wanted Officer Givens to follow her, so he finally got out of his car and did just that. 

The goose led him 100 yard away to a grassy area near a creek. Sitting there was one of her babies, tangled up in a balloon string. He was kicking his feet, desperate for help. He was wary of helping the baby on his own, worried that the goose might attack him, so he called for help from the SPCA, but no wildlife rescuers were available at the moment. 

Luckily, Given’s colleague, Officer Cecilia Charron, came to help. She began to untangle the baby, and the mother goose just stood there and watched, quacking. She didn’t become aggressive, and just let Officer Charron do what she had to do to set the baby free. It’s like the mother goose knew they were helping. Once she untangled the baby, she put her down and she ran right to her mom and they went back to swimming in the creek. Charron teared up and said it was the highlight of her 24 years on the force. 

“It seems like something made up. It was just incredible,” Givens said. “I honestly don’t know why I decided to follow her, but I did. It makes me wonder – do they know to turn to humans when they need help? We may never know the answer to this question, but what we do know is that Officer Givens was in the right place at the right time to help these geese!

Birthdays are sweet

Today started off at the wrong 'time'. We had decided to visit a new church this morning. I enjoy attending church, it helps wind me down. We all do things for mentally different reasons. I looked at the clock and said to the Birthday Girl, I guess we had better get over to Mickey D's for our half biscuit.

Sherry is sweet, but she gave me 'that look', it said, 'have you gone simple?' then said, "Honey today is the FALL-BACK time you are an hour early."

I KNEW THAT!......................................................lol

So I busied myself in trying to fix my Kindle Fire that I messed up yesterday by accidentally deleting every thing I had on it. I lost some great westerns along with the best books, mine! they were there.  Yeah, I buy my own books, they are just 99 cents and I need the sales. LOL I also read my e-mails.

Sherry received many e-mails, messages, and phone calls, she is a popular friend, mama and grandma.

She received one on my computer and I read it to her:

The BD girl said thanks, she is just a little tired.   She only had to  cook her BD dinner and cake, wash clothes and clean  the house. Shucks, this  yard is small, and she mowed it in no time.

Not much better in life than old friends, friends and family.  Sherry had a good day, and thanks  for all your BD wishes for her. (She gets all the comments and e-mails) So she read them all and said thanks.

Life is good. Son Mark is back up and brought her some DOUBLE CHOCOLATE POPCYCLES  for desert when she returned from her favorite restaurant, Red Lobster where she enjoyed coconut shrimp.

November, what a great month

Thanksgiving is this month.  A time to look back over our lives and be thankful for the good things.  My life has had so many good things in it, I try to be thankful daily.

I have had very good health, at present in my late 70's,  I still have only minor pains at times. I realize at my age it could be very different, I am thankful.

At present in our family, there are no major health issues.  I am very thankful for that.  I was fortunate to be raised by a loving dad and mom. I was blessed with kind and understanding siblings (since I was the baby, I was a pain I am sure) of course I am thankful.  

I was a builder, one of the rules the older contractors tell you is DO NOT WORK FOR FAMILY, you will have trouble. I never followed that rule.  I worked for most of my family. Built the most expensive home I ever built for my brother and did it by the hour. I tore the top off Sister Shirl's house and added a second floor. I also built a home for Sister Kat and we all remained friends, until they all passed except Shirl, and I think she still likes me. LOL I am thankful for that family.

BUT November brought the most wonderful prize into my life. If you know me, or have read my blog you know I have been married to the most wonderful girl in the world for over 60 years. You probably guessed it, She was born in November. 

Remember the song that had the lines, "You must have been a beautiful baby,  Cause baby look at you now!"

She was a beautiful baby and of course she is beautiful now.  I am thankful she has remained with me.  There were times  was an A$$, and she still loved me.

She can be very 'cute' also. I asked her once what was her Birthday, she said, "November 6th."
"But what year?" I asked sweetly.
Just as sweetly she answered, "Every year."

So to my Sweetie: HAPPY BIRTHDAY  with all my love. And for you I AM THANKFUL!

Results shopping disappointing, but a ride with Sherry NEVER is.

We had breakfast, hooked up the trailer, and headed to Daytona Beach to buy a bedroom suite.  We have always had good luck at flea markets. TODAY was a BUST. Our worst flea market experience ever.  To start with I picked up the Flea Mkt booklet and could not understand it. Cochlear Implants are like hearing aids, wind is murder .  There was fan mounted blowing down on the customer every 25 feet. NO exaggeration. They were on high and drove me buggy.

WE did find the information booth and asked directions to the furniture area. "No new furniture, and what we have will be in the outdoor area and will be used or second hand."  I thought flea mkts were full of second hand stuff. NADA. NO FURNITURE, but all new stuff from Japan, China or Indonesia.

I really don't mind that, and purchase a lot of it, but today we are looking for Used Furniture and rugs. There was no furniture other than patio type stuff, and the rugs?  WOW they started at $100+.  (Funny that, I used to  pay $2000 for an entire home floor covering, installed and warranted)  My carpet man always had remnants left. At most flea mkts we visit there is a section where someone has hemmed (?) Remnants and they are sold reasonable for throw rugs and runners.  I was sure we would fill Sherry's order, but NADA.

We did find a nice used furniture store. Well supplied and some very good stuff, but priced higher than we want to pay  at present.  WE may pay it, but hopefully we will find an estate sale first.

Mary once 'smiled' in print at the mention of our Sunday AM breakfast. Each Sunday AM we get one biscuit, two Jellies and two coffees. We split the biscuit. Some folk see us and feel sorry for the 'old folk'.  On days like today, we stop mid day and split a $1 hamburger and a drink.  I keep expecting someone to offer to buy us a meal. (smile)

This and that.....

First  thing in the mornings here at the motor home is get the scales down and WEIGH!  I am here to report Jack as lost 17 pounds in the last 6 months.  For the last 4 mornings I have weighed 152 lbs.  My girl is down a few pounds herself, but girls have 'never lost' enough. She reaches a Goal and then says, I need to lose 5lbs. She is now tipping the scale at 129.

She was my beauty and weighed 110 when we married, I was a whopping 139.

The lack of luck was disappointing, but a ride with my girl is never disappointing. It is even more rewarding now that I can hear her pretty well with the Cochlear Implants. Life is good!

Asphalt filings

Asphalt Filings, ever heard the term or know what it refers too?
Well for one, I had no heard of filings until buying in Deltona.  I started looking for asphalt and concrete men. In the free magazine here called 'Penny Saver' that was an ad saying you could have a cheap driveway using Asphalt Filings.  I called two men and got quotes. Then came hurricane Matthew.

The last quote was from Bobby Clifton. He told me they use rejected filings from DOT.  OK,  FILINGS! When you see road work you see a big machine like a hog, eating the old asphalt off the road.  It is loaded onto an awaiting truck and taken to an asphalt factory.  There it is ground and graded. If it meets DOT specs, it goes back into the new asphalt  and put back on the roads.

   The filings were dumped at the start on the city side walk. Bobby had already graded the left drive and was at the back doing more.

The rejected filings were a waste until someone started putting it on drives just to keep down the sand or mud. Bobby stressed, "Do not expect an asphalt drive, what I put down is a good, not always purty, red-neck driveway.  The advantage is I will grade, spread and pack (roll) the filings into a fairly nice drive for much less than half price of asphalt or crete.  It is porous, rain gores thru and does not run off.

So today, we got our 'redneck drive'.  For the price I like it, but I have only known it for a few hours. LOL

WE talked it over and decided to go all the way around the house . so we moved the motor home to the front yard.

I asked Bobby why he didn't use a bobcat.  He looked at me like I wasn't too bright. He said a Bobcat has no suspension, they are little and will beat an older man to death. I told him that is what my friend Don said, but I still wanted one to play with.

This is the right side of the house. We had a MEAN bush in front of the small white wall. It would scratch you in a minute. Bobby picked it up and took it off.

Above is the back, between the house and out new shed. Now I won't track too much sand into the house. looking across at the wooden fence, it where the coach is now. It was dark when we moved it. On the next Blog I should have some finished photos and a couple of the furniture.

The motor home will not go around the house, but we can drive around back to park, we like that for unloading groceries, etc.

PS>  I am not sure if they use filings in North Carolina. I have never seen nor heard of their use, other than back into new asphalt. I thought it ALL was recycled.

Someone asked if we were living in our 'new to us' house.  No, we are still in the motor home.  Once you get used to the closeness and convenience of an RV, it is hard to leave it.  If we move inside we  will have to set-up a place for the computers. Here we are comfortable, side by side (across the dining room table).

We tried this once before. We had a great place on Lake Dora with a 70' pier, our boat and plenty of fish.  Fresh fish is one of our favorite meals.  But we missed 'the road'.  It was a senior community and the bylaws prohibited renting.  If we could have rented, we would have kept it and just might be ready to go back in.  But that is hind sight and I can't abide someone who is always saying, "I shoulda (or you shoulda) done this or that."

I like the kids statement of today, "It is what it is!"  Ain't that the truth.  Unless you are some kind of miracle worker, you cannot change 'yesterday'.

I love the USA, and hope this is the last presidential election where we have two 'unpopular' candidates.  How the heck did that happen?  Usually each side says the other side is unfit, but this is the first election where the party's base is actually not enthused with their own candidate, but will probably vote for them.
Enough of politics.  

Yes we are still in the motor home. This is where the FOOD is! When Mark and Janie come to visit, they sleep  out in the house.  I was paying around in the shed and walked into the house for some ice water and lo and behold  Sherry was entertaining company, Karen from next door. Last I saw her she was in the motor home. I spoke and went back out to play.

Oh yeah, a few days ago, friend Mary suggested knocking off early and enjoying some inside healthy exercise. I'm old, but I can still learn; she had a great idea!............Not much later........ My girl looked at me and said, "It is hard to believe that next week I will be 79 years old."  (I prefer to think she is 79 years young! There are times she acts very young!!)  ;-)

Halloween

Our first Halloween in a 'neighborhood' in many years. Hey, what do we know, we bought a $15 bag of mixed candies.  My girl asked me to wind down early and be with her to give out the candy.  I did (I was really planning on doing so anyway) after all it is the time of ghosts and goblins.

WE are ready, we waited,......... and waited.  It got  dark, now it is time, the door bell rang. A little 'Frozen Queen' from down the street. It has started...  We waited....... waited...... We had a good visit. Time to sit and chat. Make plans for a possible bathroom.... we waited... Ah, kids noise.. THREE of them... Good stuff cute and dressed up in bought costumes.

We waited..... lights... A truck.... Son Mark came up and yelled, "Trick or treat!"  He was the last....  Maybe he will take a lot of candy back home with him!

I guess there are so many church and school activities now that house to hose trick or treating may be dwindling. Or that is what it seems like here tonight.

So Happy Halloween to all of you ghosts and goblins.

I miss seeing kids imaginations as they made their own costumes. I understand businesses wanting to sell costumes, but I do not like it. I like to think I understand change,  and understand this is 'these kids time' I had mine.  But I still miss the home-made creations.
