So for today:
As long as I live I will never forget the
story my dad related about a visit to a local attorney. He was encouraged as a pastor, by church
officials, to have a will on record. So,
dad made an appointment here in Belmont and entered the attorney’s office.
After
introductions my dad said, “I need to make a will in case I die!”
“Reverand, it is good to see you and I am
honored you decided to come to my office. But sir, your statement is a little
off, It is not IN CASE YOU DIE, BUT WHEN YOU
DIE!”
(I love the old Ford in the picture and wonder whose it was!)
Grandma Darnell with her cow and chickens on the Art-Cloth Mill Hill in Lowell, NC. I watched as a 5 yr old when she took her last breath; her family around her bed. She died with no will. Her 12-13 children AGREED everything she had would go to taking care of Ralph, the son whose mental condition needed the care. Ralph was a great guy, his brain never made it to it's teens but he lived to be 35.
Dad always said that one sentence rung in
his head for years. I is NOT in case I die, but WHEN I die. WE all know if God
decides to end this world as we know it, things will
change. BUT until that time we must
live, and do what is smart for us and our families.
We
know a young man who was in the process of a nasty divorce. I do not know the
inside of it, but I do know he died in a car accident and had never changed his
will. His estranged wife inherited everything,
but his family and friends KNEW he did not mean for that to happen. OF course
he did not foresee that accident,
NO ONE DOES!

"In case I die" ... that's a good one!
How sad about your friend who perished before changing his Will. What's that saying, "There oughta be a law!".
Me thinks I need to read your post aloud to Tom.
LOL at "In case I die"! Wonderful photo of Grandma Darnell. Have a nice weekend!
Well, the rapture might come first!! :)
Love that wisdom of "when you die"! Thanks for reminding me we need to get a trust set up in case we die! Or when we die I guess! Ha!
We do have a will, but we probably need it updated.
In the UK, once you divorce, the previous will is null and void. If you die, then it is considered you have no will; unless you make a new will after the divorce. Lawyers always advise divorcees to make a new will once the divorce is finalised. In the case you state, the man who died in a car accident would be considered as having no will - and his previous wife would get nothing.
In the UK, if you die without a will, the State divides your assets. First they go to your wife and children, (if alive). If you have no wife and children the assets go to your mother and father, (if still alive). If they are not alive the assets go to your brothers and sisters in equal parts, (if still alive). Then to their offspring (your nephews and nieces).
God bless.
Yes, we will all die sooner or later. It i best to be protected. It is also good to have what they call a living will. It lets people know how you want to be able to die. If you want to be resuscitated or not. I say just let me go in peace, My husband and I have a will we made before he died, but I haven't made a new one since then,
Truly I don't have anything any one would want, so I don't think it's necessary. I just hope I can save enough money for them to bury me.
