Homefront How do you not SEE the Elephant?.....
Shirl is home. Doing well and wondered what the fuss was all about. The three doctors discussed it and decided it was best to treat the problems with meds.  So she gained 2 or 3 more meds, making it 5 or 6 for a few weeks.
Backing up, about that elephant I did not see! The LITTLE THINGS YOU MISS when you are distracted.
I worked on a lawn mower today and mowed a little to check it out and saw some darkened plastic in the yard. Tough and curved a little. I puzzled over it, then thrw it in the garbage. Later I was inside and  Sherry came out of the shower and asked, “Didn’t you notice the sky light when you showered earlier?”
“No, what about it?”
“The hail must have smashed it!”  I quickly looked, and sure enough we now need a new skylight.
When leaving the motor home we look right down where we park our car. The top is in plain view. Immediately I took a closer look. AWWW! 8 or ten dents from the huge hail.
I haven’t had a chance to check the roofs of our houses. I hope to do that over the weekend. None of that is good. HOWEVER it is nothing that can’t be fixed or just ignored. 
Life is good. Parts are ordered and Shirl will not have surgery. (She is fussing about the blood thinners, and the many checks that must be done to find the right dosage of Coumadin(?).)  (My dad used to say, "Some folk would complain if they were cut with a new knife!")

Things may slow down to good pace in a few days. Thanks for all the concerns, prayers and thoughts. Forgive me if I haven’t commented. I have tried to keep up.  But remember the two “S’s” are getting older and I am just trying to keep up!

1.   Whitewater Falls in Transylvania County is the highest waterfall in the eastern United States.

2.   Cape Hatteras is the largest lighthouse ever to be moved due to erosion problems.

3.   The University of North Carolina's mascot, the Tarheels, is a nickname for North Carolinians. One story tell it came from the days when NC produced a lot of tar, and someone saw a set of footprints made by someone who had stepped in the tar. (There are several versions of ‘TAR heels’.)

4.   Charles Karault was born and raised in Wilmington.

5.   Havelock is home of Marine Base "Cherry Point." It is the largest air base in Marine Corps.

 Today:
Amazing how fast priorities change in life. Tonight will be the second night in the hospital for Shirl. It started with a routine test.... to a hospital room.  It is sorta unique since Shirl, like all of our family was born at home. She is now 82 and never spent the night in a hospital as a patient. She holds the record in our family.  Now I have a shot of catching her, I have never spent the night in a hospital. 
 
Shirl has had a terrible time adjusting to calling someone to assist her to the toilet. She is not used to all the questions and visits by different staff members.

She had a little more bad news today. A blood clot attached to the wall of the heart. Still no surgery suggested. At this point they plan to try to handle it with blood thinners and cholesterol meds along with her blood pressure meds. She hopes for release tomorrow.

One sort of silly thing is she cannot accept that TV channels can be different than she has had for many years. She is upset that channel 4 is NOT channel 4!  LOL

Life is unpredictable. The sewer pump that I thought I had fixed, ‘ain’t’! I have the new pump, but there is a leak somewhere in the lines.
And then……
My Sister’s MRI was today. I expected a smooth day and stop for Ice cream at Dairy Queen. However, She is pretty strong headed and just as she was to enter the MRI head first she said, “I want out!” The technician came out to get me. As we neared the machine he stopped me to remove my hearing aids. When he learned I have Cochlear implants I could not get near the machine. No amount of cajoling or encouragement would work. Out in the waiting room we talked and she said OK I will do it.  It messed with the schedule of the crew, but they did it and found something.

Her Dr. called the EMS and got her to the emergency room. After a lot of tests she is in the hospital to talk to more specialists. She called Sherry just after we started home and said she is coming home in the morning, she doesn’t need this.  I just answered the phone again and she needs to be released, or a comb to comb her hair.

The technician said the leak was small, and it was caught early. A statement & question. When Shirl refused the MRI, the tech first asked if I had power of atty. I have complete power of atty. He said you can tell me to continue.
I told him, no way would I go against her will even though she is having ‘cognizant problems.’

Now the bigger question. If they want her to remain in the hospital for further tests and she had rather come on home because she is sure she does not need them. I will probably suggest she stay but give in is she is adamant. NOW the biggie: If they suggest an operation on her brain to ‘fix’ this leak and she does not want it. I am about sure my answer would be, OKAY. 

In my heart I think it is BEST to do the tests and even surgery, but I still cannot go against her will.
