Rags report

Actually I was surprised, Rags has made it to Kansas City, NC, & Floroida!
Snail mail speeded up some.

The Gynecologist (and you thought I couldn't spell it)

I get one that is so funny (to me) I must pass it on. I hope you have not read this!
JOKE:
A gynecologist had become fed up with malpractice insurance and HMO Paperwork, and was burned out. Hoping to try another career where skillful hands would be beneficial; he decided to become a mechanic. He went to the local technical college, signed up for evening classes, attended diligently, and learned all he could when the time of the practical exam approached, the gynecologist prepared carefully for weeks, and completed the exam with tremendous skill.
When the results came back, he was surprised to find that he had obtained a score of 150%. Fearing an error, he called the Instructor, Saying, "I don't want to appear ungrateful for such an outstanding result, but I wonder if there is an error in the grade.
"The instructor said, "During the exam, you took the engine apart perfectly, which was worth 50% of the total mark. You put the engine back together again perfectly, which is also worth 50% of the mark." After a pause, the instructor added,
"I gave you an extra 50% because you did it all through the muffler, which I've never seen done in my entire career."
Anyway I had to laugh. Thanks for coming by the Shipslog,

PS:
George Carlin said it best about Martha Stewart:
'Boy, I feel a lot safer now that she's behind bars. O. J. Simpson and Kobe Bryant are still walking around; Osama Bin Laden too, but they take the ONE woman in America willing to cook, clean, and work in the yard, and they haul her fanny off to jail.'

Something wrong with that picture, huh?

Rags, on the road at a snails pace, but on the way.

I also love to read Swashbucklers, when I get a chance....
Click the picture to see the cover of my new book Rags. That is a 1934 Ford coupe! My favorite (old) car, never owned one. The '55 Chev is my actual favorite car, but it isn't old.
Sunday edition of the LOG:

Sunday morning and absolutely beautiful weather. Walked out to church this morning. Ron Wellner did a great job (Sherry said).
I am thrilled with the reception of Rags. Sherry liked it so that is a good barometer. I guess I can say I have accomplished something within my own family. I have got a couple reading, that have never read before.
It is amazing how much enjoyment there is in books, and so many folks are not readers. I am a guilty one. I seldom read except books pertaining to work or associated with my occupation at the time. Oh, on the ship occasionally I would pick up a western that was lying around to read while stand in the chow line. Westerns are still my ‘relaxing’ books. They are easy to read, and I, like many boys, always wanted to be a cowboy. Thanks to my buddy Sonny, I have read everything Louis L’amour has written. Sonny has a leather bound collection, I loaded half of them in the basement of the motor home and read them over the course of one winter. Then read the other half the next winter. I will still buy one of his books at a yard sale, just to re-read it. However that is seldom because L’amour books are kept, most of the time.
Now since I have discovered the joys of reading, my appetite is varied. I read pretty fast and devour a good book. There is always an ‘after Christmas feeling’ when I finish a long book. You feel good but are sorry it is over and now it is time to meet new people in another book.
I enjoy series at times, I think the best series was by John Jakes, it was a bi-centennial historical fiction series ‘The Kent Family Chronicles’. I couldn’t wait to start the next book. I bought the whole series for $2. When you start reading late like I did you have thousands of good books to pick from. Jack Higgins happens to be my favorite writer, over the last few years, but now I have read everything of his.
My attempt at writing is a fun thing. Since I was a story teller for many years, it is a little hard to go from oral to written. Orally there are many more ways to express yourself, plus you can repeat, if it looks like your audience missed something. Then I have so many props that help. You would be amazed (maybe you wouldn’t), I was, at the number of red lines on most pages I write. Haha!
Thanks for coming this way.

lost address!

I cannot locater Jean's e-mail address. Hey Jean, e-mail me with an address for snail mail. I have lost your address! Thanks!

Jack Shirl says I have an excuse, I turned 70 without refusing it.

Jack!

This and not much of that!

Never know, do you?
I love old barns, this is a beautiful one.
Today's very exciting entry.

Great, finally beautiful Florida weather. I assume you guys farther North must be seeing some kind of change.
WE even took a small jaunt out and about, stopped at two really large yard sales, Sherry found one book. It was good to get out.

We are proofing ‘Gracefully Grasping for Dignity’. Then we will be sending it off for another proof. This is a small book. I reread it last night. It took a little over two hours, but I read fast. I tried to make it a fun book to read along with the serious side. I am trying to include the input you guys have sent. If anything comes in today, I can probably get it in. Every bit of personal knowledge of senior problems or senior happy moments is appreciated.
Did you know there are still some seniors who have buried their money and they are still alive. Hopefully these folks will realize before going that they need to either: dig it up and spend it, or tell someone they love where it is. Our generation is a stubborn one. We have survived a lot of things with our inner and outer strength. Now, as I say in the book it is time to realize, that is in the past.
One of the yard sales today had some model cars, brought back memories of Shirl’s giant Yard sale. She sure sold some models and full size collectables.

Everyone enjoy this weather, and get out and do a sun dance.
Take care and thanks for stopping by for this trivia at the shipslog.

ARTISTRY OF INSULTS.

(When Insults Had Class (no 4-letter words!!) These glorious insults are from an era when cleverness with words was still valued, before a great portion of the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words, not to mention waving middle fingers.)

The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor: She said, "If you were my husband I'd give you poison," and he said, "If you were my wife, I'd drink it."

A Member of Parliament to Disraeli: "Sir, you will either die on the gallows or of some unspeakable disease." "That depends, Sir," said Disraeli, "whether I embrace your policies or your mistress."

Books mailed and Mail call

The USS Independence (CVA-62) Home away from home for awhile for this sailor, Mail landed directly, we also got the mail for the other ships in the group then had to 'high-line' it to them. If you click and look close you can see teh arresting gear (cables, they are steel woven cables about 2" in diameter).

Today's brilliant entry...... (LOL)

Ah, HOW time drags waiting for mail call. Aboard ship that was the most exciting time when the arrested the mail Cod. (landed the mail plane). There are three the cables across the aft flight deck of an air craft carrier. They are called the arresting gear. Every Navy plane has a hook built into the tail section. They land with the hook down and the hook (hopefully) catches one of the three cables. These cables are adjusted to accept the plane coming aboard. They are ‘spring-loaded’. IT is called arresting a plane. There are TV’s all over the ship and a camera picking up every plane that lands. Mail is VERY important and it doesn’t take long for the news to be out, we have mail aboard.
Now since I have been mailing out books, I am amazed how long some packages take as compared to others. Some arrive within four days, others a month. These books are mailed media mail, which is lower cost (approx $2.50). It is not a priority mail so it can be delayed. Thanks for your patience. The books to KY,CA, and NE, have caused the longest delays. I am sorry. Could be the Ice & snow in KY & NE. But there is CA, well we do call it snail mail, and the snow lies between here and there (ah ha!). I do thank you guys for ordering the books.
Each book I write requires me at least two proofs. Each proof shipped from CA is charged $13.95 for shipping alone. Shipping has gone up, therefore Media Mail is my only recourse. Please be patient with me. Lucy and Ora have waited seemingly months, for theirs to arrive. Sorry ladies, I appreciate your patience.
Now I really enjoyed writing Sticky and Rags. It was funny as I went along both books, I had no idea how they would end. But this New book, ‘Gracefully Grasping for Dignity’ I have learned a world’s worth of facts, from life alone and from you guys in the world of BLOG. Everyone knows a wonderful, funny or tragic story about Seniors. This one is short, but a real learning process.
I just read my Cousin Ken’s column. He addressed Alzheimer’s. Some of you are personally familiar with that disease, I am learning. It attacks mostly old folks and another danger to us Seniors.
Side note: did you go to Sal’s blog from Essex, UK. Did you see the snow? Did not know that much snow was close to London.( I went there from a comment on Lucy’s Blog)
Thank you for stopping by,

GEORGIA . . . A Georgia State trooper pulled over a pickup on I- 75. The trooper asked: "Got any I.D.?"

The driver replied: "Bout whut?" (That is also realistic Georgia!)

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT? (Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds):

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack time before bed time and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've acted bad

RAGS, THE BOOK, Has arrived. It is available at two places on Amazon.com or https://www.createspace.com/3363936 at Create space. Both places it is $13.95 plus shipping. Rags will sell here on this Blog Site for $11.00 including shipping. Just send me your order to our e-mail jacsher@aol.com . I will ship the book, when you are satisfied with the book, you can send in the payment. I will include the address with the book.
I am very happy with this book, its length, content and cover. I hope you read it and enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Anyway I feel like a new daddy when I open the case and see the books. I get the same feeling of accomplishment that I did standing out on the road in front of a house I had built and looking where about ninety days before was an empty lot. Funny, I just realized that is about how long it took to produce Rags.
Our weather is supposed to moderate. Got in the car this morning to go mail off the first thirty books orders, there was Sherry’s water from last night, FROZEN, inside the car. That is very unusual for Florida.

WE are getting weller as time goes on. Today I squeezed a quart of OJ. It is delicious. Sun is out, but it is still cool outside. I know you folks north of us are sick of this whining. LOL Betty is rubbing in the California 80’s, pick on her. HA!
Take care, thanks for coming by the log.

NORTH CAROLINA . . .
A man in North Carolina had a flat tire, pulled off on the side of the road, and proceeded to put a bouquet of flowers in front of the car and one behind it. Then he got back in the car to wait.

A passerby studied the scene as he drove by and was so curious he turned around and went back. He asked the fellow what the problem was.
The man replied: "I have a flat tire." The passerby asked: "But what's with the flowers?" The man responded: "When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back. Hey, it don't make no sense to me neither."

Yep! In North CArolina we have Flare Gardens, just ask a native and you will find out.

Okay, the joke has run it's course!

Okay this is one way to stay out of the weather and save fuel too!

Okay you guys up there, sometimes y’all can carry a joke too far. Freezing in Florida. Huh uh, ain’t ‘posed to. Take this stuff back up there. Fun is Fun, but stop it all ready!!!!
Hey, it looks like I may have some books out in time to get a comment or two, to include in ‘Gracefully Grasping for Dignity’. But it will be close.
I want to get this non –fiction book out as soon as possible.

I feel strongly about this book and every horror story I hear about seniors makes it seem more important. Shirl just e-mailed me about a long time friend in her 80’s, independent and well educated. She made ZERO plans for her demise. She had only one living relative, and she had not informed him of anything including her personal records. A dear friend is trying desperately to arrange the funeral, visitation, and the like. She is also checking to see how the funeral will be paid, etc.

I think I asked here on the Blog, if you hide money or important papers. You would be amazed that over half of seniors hide money and much of it is never found by the heirs or relatives.

Billions of dollars annually are lost, because insurance is not claimed. There are some insurance people who read the Obits and keep up with the families of the insured to make sure ‘their’ policies are paid off.

There are others, due to a long dormant periods, that never get claimed. WE have a couple policies, $250 & $500, paid up life. (remember the dime policies?) They have been paid up for 25 years, they insure our children, so they could lay dormant for another 30 to 40 years. WE are leaving instructions for them, the ins. Companies do not exist now, but the policies are still good.
Just talking……
