A mistake and just stuff

Autos of beauty

 Nice Mercedes!

For today:

When I kept my own books in business I was happy if I was within a dollar on my checking account balance.  My girl on the other hand will work a long time to find where she misplaced a nickel or dime.

I have a mad money account at the credit union. That is the only CC # that goes on the internet to buy or pay bills. At times we will use our house account CC when giving it over the phone, but not in writing on the internet. Just our own guidelines.

Anyway just lately I noticed an amount less than $10 charged to --- Music. I had seen it before but I order so much stuff for us and the coach I just thought some company I ordered from had music in their name. i.e. Grandson Stephen manages a store called, “Music and Arts”.

This time I did more research. I searched my account and found that I was paying this amt. every month. Doing more research, I somehow had taken a free trial with Amazon Music, cancel anytime etc, and musta forgotten. I musta ordered the album ‘AMEN’ for someone a year ago. The episode was My mistake, I own it,

Anyway I did learn something and I will pay more attention to my account.

I had a report from Belmont that Grandson Luke had adopted Blackie, the Black Tom cat that was the last of the three black cats of Stormy’s last litter. I guess that narrows the litter down to 2 or three feral cats at our home base.

Stella and her Grandma Mary have been going over to check on the cats. Michelle next door keeps the cats fed most of the time.

I was 5 years old the last time I was really attached to a cat. That was Tom. I met Stormy a couple years ago and made it a challenge to befriend that black feral cat. At 80 yrs of age I did and she finally accepted me as a friend. I hated to lose her. But I did make her life much easier as a feral.

So that is it for today. I do appreciate you stopping by.

Mysteries in life

 Memorable Automobiles from The Past:

Do we still have 'Hell Driver' shows? The last one I saw was "Joey Chitwood's Hollywood Hell Drivers" 1954 Gaston Co. Fair.

Now for today..

Not to belabor my age and life, but I am Blessed to till be here.

I was notified this week that a childhood friend, VonDale just lost his older sister. That leaves him the last of his family.

Every one of us, you and me, are blessed, lucky, and fortunate; according to how you look at it. We drive on these highways. As you drive at 50-70 miles an hour you are meeting other cars doing the same or higher speeds.  Any small mistake at those speeds by us (or the other driver), over the years could have taken us out of this life. But here we are, typing and reading entertaining or boring entries on the internet.  Why us?

There was a lady on WBTV in Charlotte, NC. Betty Feezor. ‘The Betty Feezor Show’ ran on WBTV from 1953-1977. Her show was the first in the world to be video-recorded in color.  She was hit with deadly cancer.  We remember seeing an interview with this stalwart lady.

The interviewer: “Betty you have been so giving in your life. You have also been very open with this disease. You tell us the Doctor says you are terminal and do not have long to live. Do you ever ask, WHY ME?”

Betty looked at her with that sweet smile, “Why not me? This comes to the rich, poor or well known, it comes to Joe and Sue Citizen. I am not thrilled with the sentence, but we are all on the same plain when it comes to this, it is appointed to man to die.”

I want to appreciate all I have been allowed in this world. I have seen so many of my peers cut down in their youth, never to see a child or grandchild. Here I have enjoyed even Great Grands. How sweet is that? Yep, I am Blessed. So I want to be thankful. Christmas is a good time for that.

This is the latest Great Grand Oliver and his dad Josh. Meg and Rosie making ginger bread dudes. We even have another ggrand comng. Kiersten is expecting another in January. That will make 12.

It is easy to note that some of you preach 'THANKFUL' with your lives and blogs.

Tonight I want to thank all of you for making my life better. Y’all are a lot of fun. ;-)

Title… Overwhelmed…. ‘Flabbergasted’.

  Replacing Tires would be Overwhelming:

Now for today..

Overwhelmed, one synonym is ‘flabbergasted’. I didn’t  know that was a real word. But now that I am the same age as old people I am learning how those old people get flabbergasted at the technical things of life. Stumbling thru things like setting up auto-payment of your utilities and phone and finally getting it all set up you relax and forget it. BUT let a monkey wrench get thrown in, and there is that overwhelmed feeling again.

Shirley my older sister was being ‘overwhelmed’ with bills. The younger brother, me, set it all up and she had just groceries, clothes, gas and eating out to worry about. BUT then she passed away. Some of the things were simple to stop BUT NOT ALL. AT&T was the worst. (I have heard good things about AT/T but not for us). AS you know there are no local offices; seldom even real people.

NOW, I am now the old person. Tax time is coming up and YES I am flabbergasted. The only time I have used anyone to do my taxes was in the last few years in business when, at my big brothers advice, I hired a CPA. Marvin was a great guy but after his death I found he had lied, I mean there were deductions on my forms that were not true. I learned that from the CPA that took over Marvin’s accounts. Of course OUR tax went up. LOL

I was quiet until 7 years passed, dreading the thought of an audit. It did not happen.

Okay now, this shouldn’t be too hard, just follow the instructions and file the forms. But I still dread it.

Maybe I’ll call Lisa, she is working for a CPA now in her new job. What am I saying? I cannot call anyone. I can’t talk on the phone. LOL

Maybe I’ll wing it. Can you blog from jail? Just wondering……..

Once it is gone

 Autos of beauty

Yep, honestly there was a time when that Continental Kit was a thing of beauty, now it is gone! LOL (50s Mercury)

For today:

Yesterday I slept late; not unusual. I was up a 9am. I leaned into our ‘computer room’ and Sherry was there vs in the kitchen where she usually is. She said, “We don’t have any water, they are working on the lines just up the roads I could see them digging.”

Later I walked into the bathroom to wash my hands and even turned on the faucet before it hit me, ‘no water.’

I think of how many times I hit the light switches during a hurricane or storm, KNOWING the power was knocked out.

I remember very vividly when doing a walk thru of a house we had just finished, I would flip a light switch or turn on a faucet before the utilities were powered up.

It reminds me for a period of time after losing someone close, I would think ‘I should call them.’ BUT THAT was not possible.

How real is it that you don’t know how well you have it until one of the pleasures is gone?

I smile to think about our time in GITMO. There was a grocery store, convenience store and gas station, but the gas and grocery closed at 6PM. The Convenience store closed at 9PM. We were used to 24 hour service in the states. We adapted. But it was still missed at times.

I had a close friend who married a close friend of Sherry’s. They had a very rocky marriage for 50+ yrs. She passed. Later I was talking with Sam. It was sad to hear what he said, “I didn’t think I would miss the old girl, but I do.”

It is true in this life many times, “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE UNTIL IT IS GONE!” There are some things more important than others, but the same is true.

MY Political Post

You gotta love this Rock  TRUCK (Borrowed from Connie Walls):

I would love to have that as a yard decoration!!

Now for today..

I am a believer, the USA is the greatest country in this world. I think folks born in Canada, the UK, Ireland, and Germany etc feel the same. BUT this is me.  And for me it is the USA.

Politics, LOL! Funny but serious. Our election was held, The ‘Electoral College' has said that Mr. Biden will be our next president. I didn’t vote for him, but HE WILL BE MY PRESIDENT. WE had many high profile people, say at the last election: “If Trump becomes president I will leave this country!” (Did they?)  Some held signs “Trump is NOT my president,” at inauguration time but he was.

BUT despite that……………… Politics continued.

As a kid I heard “If Ike becomes president, Expect WWIII, ALL HE KNOWS is WAR!

Down south I heard: “If JFK gets in office the USA will be run by the Vatican.”

I heard it very LOUDLY said with disgust, “REAGAN? Yeah that is all we need is an ACTING PRESIDENT!” We have different voices in this country. Thank God we have the right of FREE SPEECH.

I once had a revelation, delivered to me while razing an old house. Using my sledge I smashed into a plaster wall. There in the wall were preserved 1940s newspapers. I had to look at them. Until then I had the impression that everyone loved FDR. HA! BUT in those papers there were Nasty letters to the editor saying how terrible FDR was. He should be impeached! WHAT? That is impossible…… J. Everybody loved the guy. LOL

This election time was NOT TERRIBLE, it was a bump in the road, A BIG ONE, but a bump. WWII, Korea, Vietnam, all wars ARE TERRIBLE. The UNCIVIL WAR was the worst, neighbor against neighbor, surely no one wants that. BECAUSE more AMERICANS died at that time, than in any other war.

We are too diverse for EVERYONE to love any president. My hope is for a statesman that can draw us a little more together. HOPEFULLY it won’t take another 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. ;-(   I honestly hope Biden can do it, if not I will still have HOPE!

There is always ‘next time’, another election in 4 years. We need to remember we are NEIGHBORS! We are not ENEMIES just because we have different beliefs, faiths and ideas.

Surprise, Surprise

 Surprises

Autos of beauty

   1934 Studebaker Dictator

For today:

Fishing in Key West, Sherry once pulled in a 20 pound fish; when I looked it was not hooked. SURPRISE to me (and the Grouper) it had swallowed the little Snapper she had caught.

When I could hear my music of choice was country. I once heard a song, ‘Shutters and Boards’ on the radio sang by a guy named Charlie Pride. He became my favorite. It was a SURPRISE to learn he was a ‘Black’ Country singer. We were privileged to see him once live on a USO tour in GITMO bay, I was saddened to hear of his death this week. I enjoyed his music as much as any professional singer I ever heard.

I spent many years in the military knowing many men and women thru the years.  We kept in touch with two or three. I was very SURPRISED to learn that a good friend, a computer repairman from the Independence, actually read my blog and lived in the same town in Florida where we were at the time. We were neither very religious in the USN so I was shocked when meeting with him to learn he was now a leader in the Orthodox Church, Protodeacon Michael Malanowski!

Many of my surprises have connections with church. We were invited to attend the ‘Cowboy Church’ in Okeechobee. After church we were invited by Glenda and David Luke of the Conrad family to enjoy lunch with them.

THERE I was SURPRISED with a Birthday Party featuring a homemade Pineapple upside down cake baked by Holly, DL’s wife.  It was delicious and fun.

Visiting a local church where JJ was the music director. His twin sons attended with him. We knew Stephen played the guitar there, but were PLEASANTLY SURPRISED to see his twin, Joshua, on the piano playing like a professional. We had no idea he played the piano, and we saw them regularly, just never at their church.

Sherry just had a meeting on the internet. A BIG SURPRISE from a pretty little girl we knew at a church in Moberly Missouri, Connie in the 1960s.
We were close friends with the family and together very often. WE had lost contact. This is gonna be fun. Oh, she has been married 45 years and has grand kids! Is that possible. LOL

The internet can be a wonderful tool, for SURPRISES!

Earliest memories

Nice car:

1980 I want to say Ford, but not sure.

For today

I had a great idea of a blog entry. I received an fascinating video a few days/weeks ago about interesting jobs. I intended to have that video only as an entry. An idea stolen from Myra. She put a great kids 'song' video on last night. That I enjoyed.

After the song I hoped to find Grandsons' Joshua and Stephen on Youtube with a Christmas song but could not.  Gotta check how to find my own Grands' page.

So then my idea was a flop, I had saved the video I wanted on my dying DELL computer. Imma see if I can find it.

In the mean time I was wondering how far back in your life you can actually remember?

For me it is probably 3-4 years old.  I remember riding on a trike of some little girl, it could have been my sister. But I can remember clearly holding on to her shoulders as she pedaled the trike on a side walk in Shelby, NC.

Back when there were no screens on windows and of course no A/C. I remember sitting on a window seal and clearly remember seeing below me outside; our cat Tom play had a mouse he had caught.  It was fascinating. Tom would hold the mouse under his paw and then turn him loose. The mouse thinking he was free would scamper a few inches only to be caught by Tom's other paw.  This went on for awhile before Tom killed and ate him. I remember it  did not bother me to see Tom eat the mouse, that is what cats did.

I also remember standing in our front yard, holding a wooden rifle to guard against 'Jap& Nazi Planes during the black outs of 1943-44.

Those are actually my earliest memories.  I know they are my earliest because we moved from Shelby when I was 4.
