There is a lesson here somewhere

I just had to replay Elsie crashing with her dad crashing below.

I received orders to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO) while in the USN. Arriving I was assigned a room in the old wooden barracks. I was more used to open bay living. I still think that is the best way for military folk to live, but that is not the subject here. It was late by the time I got in the room. There was no one else ASSIGNED to my little room, but I was with my division, who shared the adjoining rooms Everyone was gone. About 2am I was woke up by a guy named Paul Hess. He welcomed me aboard and offered me some ‘Coconut Chicken’. I accepted it in my daze and tasted it, it was delicious. The division had been to a party and the hostess had cooked this delicious chicken. He misunderstood my name, and I became ‘Jack Daniels’ to him for the next year.
The next evening Paul came into my room and I was cleaning the screens. They were covered with lint, you could hardly see thru them. His admonishment when he came into the room, ‘You’ll be sorry’.

The boys, Jack & Mark on their moto cross bikes in our yard on GITMO. We waited two or three months before Sherry & the boys could come down.
Me and Jack on left. A friend and Mark on the right. This is the spot on Gitmo bay that Columbus landed on one of his adventures.

More moto cross racing on Gitmo.

I left the screens half cleaned.
He explained that the Cubans were burning the sugar cane to prepare for harvest. And the ‘no see ‘ums’ headed for the base. I know now, but I did not then what a ‘no see’um ‘ is. The lint made it impossible for the little biting bugs to get in. So I determined then, ‘YOUCAN BE TOO CLEAN’.
I HAVE USED THIS EXCUSE (REASON) many times since then on Sherry, but it seldom works.
So if you live around ‘no see’ums or black flies’ don’t clean your screens!!!
Thanks for coming by the log.

More from Clearfield, Utah

This is our grown grandsons swinging.

In all the things we have to do here at the motor home, my responsibility is the camera. I have dropped it several times and broken it twice, but she still trusts me with it. Well today I met Elsie with only the spare batteris in my pocket. They don't work well without the camera. Of course I acted like it was on purpose, after all I see everyone else pointing their cell phones and clicking. We have two new ones. Problem is I didn't know how to operate them. Sherry showed me how to take some pictures. The quality isn't good, but don't you think this is cheating a little to get on the kids slide with Elsie (winning her affections.)
Here she is again (from yesterday) I haven't figured how to get the rest of the pictures with ME AND ELSIE off the phone yet.

And again laughing and singing with Elsie. I think this is cheating.

Now it is okay for Ben to be on this stuff, she is his daughter.

He even goes thru the McDonalds tunnels and slides with her. This is the three section tire swing.

Yesterday was so windy I know gusts to 40+. This is Carol and Shon fighting the wind. The park is just a little walk from the RV park.

This is Corey and jackie swinging. ( I do have a picture of Corey and Ben swinging)

All is fair in love and war, a little popcorn never hurts.

Back at Grandma Carol's. Here she is with her youngest and oldest grand kids, Elsie and Maddie.

Time is fast passing for our time here in UTAH. This time we tried not to monopolize all their time, but did manage to see everyone and visit. It has been a great trip.

Tomorrow night we will see most everyone the last night in town. I think the plans are to go to Dick and Joan's house and hang out. BUT we are flexable, anywhere with the family is fine.

Thanks for stopping by the log.

Me and Elsie Mae

When asked what her name is she will say, 'Elsie MAE Dar'NELL.
We drove over to Coalville where Corey is working, he is still in construction. This is the giant Elk antler chandlier that is being hung.
The house as you walk up. The owner wanted the 'Old' look. That red roof is pre rusted metal roofing. The used Weathered wood from outside stuff very old. This is a sprawling ranch on 50 acres. A lot of money still available to some business men.
Above is in the small restaurant were we went to have dinner. All the kids wanted a turn or two on the pin ball machine, including Elsie. That is Chase in the foreground waiting her turn.

But on the way home Elsie caved in and crashed.

Today Dick and Joan came over to visit. We had a great visit, but Joan had to goto work.
Later we went to Grandma Carol's house. and guess who showed up. Maddison, Corey's oldest daughter. She is beautiful. She was with her boyfriend, a nice guy. I was so impressed with her desire and passion for reading that I found two of my books for her, can't have her missing the greatest unheard of author in the family. She seemed pleased.

When we arrived at Carol's, Elsie wasn't up yet. When she got up she had to have her dad comb her hair so she would be presentable for Great GRandpa jack.

Notice how loving she is, took to me quick, didn't take but a few gold dollars, some sketching and a magic trick or two. The magic coloring book. Hey, I'm good looking, I don't have to bribe the ladies. hahahahaha

One more of the photo ops she insisted on having.

I even got a few hugs in between these shots. I did get a video of her singing her ABC's and saying hello to her Grandpa jack back home. Jack was going to flyout, but an emergency arose and he skipped (regretfully).

Elsie toured our playhouse here. Loved the motor home but she was tired and we parted. She is a doll of course, and I am not one of those silly Great Grand Parents!
Thanks for visiting,

Chinese food and Elsie

This is an introduction to Bridger, Corey's son. Great guy and will be a handsome fellow.
This is ELSIE MAE, just after coming Carol's house with Ben. Of course a little stand offish seeing new faces.
Part of Corey's present family. Bridger, Chase, Corey and Jackie (not to be confused with me, ha!)
See, Elsie did get close to me. I actually did get to hold her for a minute and she sat on my lap. HONEST!
Shon, Carol and Elsie.
Below is the proud daddy, Ben and his pride and joy, Elsie Mae.

Benjamin Aaron Darnell, me, Sherry (show off) and Elsie. Elsie took right to Sherry, I think somehow girls cheat, one day I might figure it out.

Bridger clowning around with the hot mustard at the Chinese dinner.

Joan & Dick Workman (The other g-grand parents, of course Carol's mom & Dad.) Looking across the table at Elsie Mae.

Here is Elsie across the table with grandma Carol in the background.

Another picture of who? Elsie as she gives a taste test to the food. (Oh yeah, that is Carol on the left, just to make sure you don't mix up the hair. ) Looks like Elsie is a strawberry blonde.

Me, Sherry, Joan and Dick the old folks at the dinner.

Final picture is of somebody putting the gold dollars in her pocket. We will see her in a little while again. She is with
Ben this weekend so we are going to share some time.

Everyone here has been so nice. It is a good visit. It was good to see Chase, who is a very pretty girl now and will be a beautiful lady there is no doubt.
It was good to see Dick and Joan. Joan and I were going to take a hot air balloon ride together (Sherry and Dick did not want to leave terra firma). I got cold feet at the last minute myself (the $200 ticket might have has something to do with it, but don't tell Joan she will think I am a cheap skate. hahahahahahahhaha, that is all right go ahead, they all know I am a cheap skate!!) This is just a continuation of a great trip.
Thanks for coming along for our 'family dinner'.

Our first evening dinner with a crowd.

We went out to eat last night, NO Elsie did not make it. But above is Carol holding Allura Lynn.
Me, Ben, Carol (holding Alura) and Corey!
Me, Ben, Sherry and Corey. (Grandsons)
Ben Corey and the good looking guy is me. hahahahaa!
Grandma where she likes it, with a big grandson Ben.
Now I am losing my touch. When the grand kids were little and tended to hang with Sherry, I would say just wait when they get old enough I will buy them. It works on every one, that is everyone except girls. It was hard to bribe Reece and now no matter how many gold dollars I pulled out of Allura's ear, I never got a hug nor kiss. Sherry got both!
This is Corey the oldest and Allura Lynn along with his friend Jackie.
Tonight we see Elsie Mae. Will report later.
We are having a great time we had lunch with Carol today.
Thansk for coming this way,

I know, I didn't take one picture!

We have visited with Carol a few minutes, and Ben took out to eat at the home of the ‘Big Ben’. I had a “BBBB” (Big Ben Buffalo Burger). It was delicious. We hope he can get Elsie this weekend!

Of course most folk work, so we are left to our own devices during the day. Today was spent in Salt Lake City at the VA. Funny thing with government agencies you cannot just ask a question and get an answer. I had to transfer my records to here, and then I was able to ask the question in another building, of course. The answer was Yes we can do it, if you can stay here for five or six weeks. Hey we would love to do that, but then we might get snow bound for the rest of the trip out west. So we said thank you, but we cannot be here.

****************

TRIP REPORT: We have driven the MH & Van 5762 miles in 50 days.

we have stayed in nine states.

************************

While we are getting our act together, I want to stray from our travels. I will be honest I have sorta admired Joe Arpaio, the Sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona. He does not coddle prisoners. From the reports I have read, no one wants to go back to jail after being in his jail. The prisoners wear pink shorts, some live in tents surrounded by barbed wire. He does a lot of feeding using p-nut butter and jelly sandwiches. TV is on PBS when available and no computers.

When some complained about the tents and heat, he pointed out that our service men are living in worse conditions and they have not broken the law. Now I sorta like that.

Suing Arizona over the immigrations law is not enough, the Gov’t is suing Joe’s office for discrimination. He is arresting more Spanish speaking folk than English speaking. Surprise, surprise, there is a large percentage of the folk’s there who are Hispanic. Guess what race of people are arrested the most in Washington DC?

In my opinion if you break the law and get caught, you should be prosecuted no matter your race, creed or religion.
You and I can argue all day about the rich/famous being treated different. They are. It is wrong, but it will never be changed. Money talks, I despise the saying but it is true. We have cases of the wealthy getting away with killing. We have politicians who get caught not paying taxes,oh, they forgot, so that is okay. (You forget, and see who cares).

The playing field is not level; no place in the world is the playing field level. Communism was supposed to do that, it produced an upper class that are immune. Etc. I quit. I just read that today about old Joe and I just think the Federal Gov’t has it’s hands full with the Drug and illegal problems without attacking a pretty good Sheriff.

If I upset you, forgive me, I really am enjoying our travels. Arizona is on the list. So forget it if you don’t agree, thanks for coming this way.

From Moab to Hill Air Force Base and some family!

Beautiful day to drive. We came UP out of Moab. The drive was great all the way. At the intersection of I-70 we saw two BIG trucks, what was on them? Propeller blades for a wind machine. Paula and I were talking about that the other day, both of us has seen one on the road and thought it was an airplane wing. Folks these things are huge. I just got distant shots
But notice where it attaches to the hub, that sucker is over eight feet across! It is as big as the truck cab.

This was no boring ride. We stayed on the Interstate for an hour then cut across country. The views were fantastic.

I love the formations.

Notice ahead this road threaded thru the canyon following along the Price river.
Sherry got a good shot of the Price River running along the road.

After about 4 or 5 hours of driving, we got our first view of the Wasatch Mountains. On the other side is I-15, and turning North we head toward family.

What was the first things we saw after passing the Wasatch chain? Wind machines. Remember those arms are nearly 70 ft. long. AMAZING!

We drove on up I-15 to the Clearfield area. After parking we checked our mail at the post office, yep, General Delivery, we have it. Now we are ready to settle down for a week and visit family.
Jack was going to fly out to be with us but could not make it. We were hoping for a double visit. Oh yes this is where Elsie Mae lives, soon. Since she does not know us, we will have to ease into her life.
Thanks for riding with us on today's exciting trip. This country is beautiful.
