From South Georgia

 Memorable car of the day:

 1951 Hudson Hornet

I liked this one when it came out. Surprised that the Hudson did not last, it seemed like a solid car.

For today:

Well the coach did start so we hit the road headed to Florida. We have had a great trip so far. We stopped at a couple rest areas. When we stop I always check the car we are towing, and open a side door in the basement area where I have a set of tools hanging within easy reach. I grab the hammer and do as my brothers and uncles (truck drivers) have told me. I hit every dual tire several times to feel the inflation. You get used to the sound to know if it is low on air.

As I finished a truck driver at his steering wheel parked beside me called me over. I like that tool storage you have that is good thinking.  I thanked him and bragged on his Rig. I told him that trucking was deep into my family, and continued to ask if there were less trucks on the road. “Lord NO, I see more trucks hauling than I ever have. We are just trying to catch up. WE are behind and we have lost a lot of truckers to this Covid sh**! I had to back over into the field for a parking place last night.”

There are definitely a lot of trucks on the road that is for sure.

WE drove about 7 hours. We will leave this site late AM to miss the J-Ville traffic. WE are about 3 hours driving time from our place in Leesburg. Sherry is feeling good.

The only strange thing I saw yesterday was 3 new cars that passed me, painted a dark grey, covered with little roughly painted 4” X 4” squares in white. Coming up in the mirror they looked like they had fish scales on them. LOL

Our Tuesday morning view out our picture window.

I cooked breakfast this morning, Sherry was proud of me. I did a complicated milk and dry cereal. LOL

Hope you all have a great day! we will be on the road in an hour or so.

On the Road

 Memorable car of the day:

Buddy's Mustang. He declares it changed colors according to how the light hit it.
I never owned a Mustang, but always admired the guy behind the design. Lee Iacocca. One smart dude. To his credit is the 'STANG' and the Mini Van that was all the rage for many years.

For today:

As I type this our refrigerator here in the house is empty except for a container of Hershey Milk Choc Syrup and a container of Sherbet and one or Vanilla.  Everything else is down in the Coach refer waiting for us. They will be the last to leave the house after our snacks. Sherry again noticed we had 4 containers of ice cream in the freezer compliments of my mis-use of the self-check out at the grocery store. LOL

If the coach starts we should be on the road as you read this.  We do plan to stop tonight at an RV Park to overnight so we can pull into our lot in Florida in the daylight on Tuesday.

Driving the coach is much easier than a car, the view is better making reaction time better. The driver’s seat is like a lounge chair and very comfortable.

Janie, Mark's Bull dog, likes the driver's seat. She says the view is good... And also good to sleep in.

WE were getting ready yesterday and Sherry sat down on the couch and said, “I miss this being our home!”  We both do.

We are towing the Honda. We have a rearview camera on it at all times to monitor and make sure it is towing properly. Our generator is running to keep the Residential Refrigerator we had installed, there for we have 120v electric avail if we want to make coffee or use the computer.

Anyway, we should be on the road and hopefully by our stop on Monday night I will have the PC’s set up in the coach for communications. We will probably stop somewhere in Georgia or just inside the Florida line.

Thanks for stopping by, we appreciate having you along.

Stupidity & ignorance, (plus ZULU time)

Memorable car of the day:

The 2022 Chevy Corvette a beautiful dream of many a young person who cannot afford the front tires.

That same beauty after a stupid buyer crashes it in excess of 125MPH

For today:

It is amazing how just one STUPID decision can take a life, ruin a career and cost millions. I am sure you read or saw the story in the news about a man named Ruggs, the FORMER ball player.

To throw away, a great career and a salary most of us can only dream of, 4 million$ a year, WHAT? Now I read he is facing up to 40 years in prison. All due to complete stupidity, 156 mph in a residential area.

It is just too far out to even conceive. Now a young lady will never live to see life and family because of a self-centered, rich too soon, idiot.

It is hard for the normal working person to even think of the figure of millions of $ per year.  And to think anyone being paid that would gamble it away. Can you imagine what the man’s family thinks? They were on cloud 9 just a short time ago when he was drafted.

BUT what about HER family?

Tina Tintor was not famous, she was only a resident of Las Vegas since a baby. She loved her 3 yr old retriever. Both died because of stupidity and carefree fast wealthy ignorance.

Something less heart rending.    ,,,,,,,,

Now if you have dealt with international time, in business, governmental, or military you may be familiar with Zulu Tme.  That is the time recorded at Longitude zero. It is called Greenwich Mean Time or GMT exact time at ZERO is here.

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fullscreen.html?n=3875

It is to keep everyone involved on the same page. When a message or letter is received from anyplace in the world the time group may read 0300Z meaning it was sent when it was 3AM GMT.  That means it was 7AM local (EST) in Belmont NC and 2AM local in London when it was sent.

LOL We here are Four hours ahead of Zulu, Victor over in the UK is one hour behind Zulu time. I just know everyone reading was thrilled to know about that.

Y’all have a great time! TIME and life are good, at sometimes absolutely wonderful and definitely not to be wasted doing something stupid.  BE SAFE.

The Big day

Memorable car of the day:

For today:

I have heard time and again: Right now, this is the oldest you have ever been. But most all of us know our birthday and use that date to state our age.

Above on one of our honey moons.

So today my sweetheart celebrates 84 pretty years. I have known for many years than I am the luckiest dude in the world.  This girl is a joy to know and live with. She is my best friend.

She has followed me over a lot of the world. She has NEVER once complained about where we lived, the location nor the building. We have lived in tents, vans, a remodeled chicken house, trailers, motor homes and has never once complained.

(Sherry at work)

When we lived in Arlington, VA my mama lost both her legs and was bed fast.  Sherry quit a good job and came back to NC to take care of my mama, until I could arrange a transfer here. She loved and treated my mama like a baby until she died.

(Son Mark, Mama and Sherry)

In our late 60s she came up with the best adventure of our lives. She suggested we backpack the Appalachian Trail. Over the next few years we hiked close to 1900 miles of the AT. One year we hiked 900 miles in the woods and mountains.

This lady is an angel and the best wife, lover and mother in the world.

Sherry and Jack Wiley a few days ago.

HAPPY 84TH BIRTHDAY

TO  SHERRY,

YOU ARE THE BEST!

Jack

PS:

DIL Corinne brought Sherry this beautiful Bouquet and the sweet hand made card below that opens into a flower arrangement. (Of course I had to put it next to my card that opened to an old Ford Pickup truck she gave me last year.)

All’s well… ‘cept maybe couda been some meanness

 Memorable car of the day:

1937 Chrysler Town Car, New when my girl was born

NOTE: If you e-mailed us in the last couple days and did not get an answer send it again. for some reason every e-mail for the past couple days was sent directly to the recently Deleted file. Sorry .....

For today:

Well like all things waited on, it all finally comes around. Sherry heard from her Doctor. Cysts apparent, but Nothing significant he said. Ha! That ain’t exactly what I have thought, I always thought she was pretty significant.

He even had the nerve to say her pancreas and spleen were ‘unremarkable.’ I thought anything of hers, and working it was pretty remarkable.  Looks like me ‘n doctors do not think alike.

Anyway on the positive side be both think “NOTHING SIGNIFICANT” sounds good at present. She has been prescribed a supplement that has to do with ‘probiotics’ which seems to be working on her indigestion. I thought things were looking up yesterday when she ate most of the supper I cooked ;-).

So we will probably head south the first of the week and get back in the sunshine. We are both on the happy side of good. And ready to relax or relapse.  I hate to leave my big playhouse, but I can settle into my little play house pretty well.

My girl says thanks for all your thoughts, concerns and especially the prayers on her behalf. She can now ENJOY her 84th birthday soon. You know at 84 she is still the prettiest girl I ever seen, **she says if I be good she is going to keep me.**

Coincidence

Memorable car of the day:

From a car show in Eustis Florida. This '37 was new when my girl was born at home on Spruce street in Belmont.

For today:

This town, Belmont, NC, was a cotton mill town. Sherry was born here, I moved here in 1954. Belmont was actually reflective of a small Southern town. Stores closed by 6 o’clock. Stores also closed at noon on Tuesdays. There was a Donut Dinette that was open 24 hours on Hwy 74. One or two service stations were open until 9PM.

Kids played ball on empty lots. No houses were locked and in the summer windows and doors were wide open day and night to stay a little cooler.

People went to town on Saturday to shop as a rule.  There were no malls yet. The town was speckled with Cotton Mill Villages. Sherry’s family lived at the Climax Cotton Mill village. She was born on Spruce Street. The Climax Mill Building is still there, but is a storage and shipping complex not a cotton mill. The machines were sold to an overseas company and shipped out.

Only a few of the mill houses are left, instead now that area is covered with modern Medical services. Spruce Street still exists. Now in her 80s and yesterday had a medical procedure called Ultra Sound. Geography wise, the procedure was completed just a few yards from where she was born. We are awaiting the results of the procedure. As I am sure you all know, waiting is not a fun thing at times.

Them danged Windshields

 Car of the day…

I cleaned a lot of these windshields, with no problem.

Now for Today:

For ME, automotive windshields are very tough to clean for some reason. It isn’t much of a problem and looks good until you are driving directly into the sun light, then you see all the smears, lines and just mess you missed. WE drive a Honda CRV and even it has a windshield this old man cannot reach to the middle.

When I get the car home and finally think about re-doing the windshield. Dadgummit, I still have a mess when I face the sun. I also realized that some of that is on the inside. OUCH I absolutely despise trying to clean the windshield on the inside. It is a terrible strain.

I once worked at a real service station (remember them). Buy a dollar’s worth of gas and you got your oil checked and windshields washed. On request you could get your tire pressure checked.

To tell the truth my boss was a friend but also I learned he was a crook. Mostly I serviced the gas island, but at times I filled in at the bays. Many, many times the boss just added oil to the fill mark shined up the old oil filter and charged for the oil change and a filter.

I left his employ and joined the USN. Sherry planned to drive up to Great Lakes to see me while I was in school there. I told her to see Bobby, he was a crook, but I was sure he would treat her right. OUCH He sold her everything he could even a set of tires.

I climbed his case when I came home on leave, but it did not faze him. “Jack, she needed everything I did.”  It wasn't long until he went bankrupt.

I never had a problem with windshields back then, but in the 1950-60 era they weren’t too big. LOL. I still wonder what was used to clean the windshield back then, I sure do not remember, but it did a good job. I do not remember having a problem with streaks!

We are off to the Dr. for Sherry’s long awaited Ultra Sound of her stomach.  Think of us and say a prayer….

(She is only 83 but still hoping it is a girl! LOL)

Disappointed

 Memorable car of the day:

    1964 Mustang

For today:

Let me tell you, there are people who LOVE to see the mail man. Military men away from home live many times for 'MAIL CALL.'  Snail mail is IMPORTANT!

In the last couple days we have driven by our US Post Office, HEY, the drive by deposit boxes are GONE! Yep, we still use ‘snail mail’ as it is called. One of the dearest and longest held areas of our government has been the Postal Service. Due to Politics, ignorance and Mismanagement, the USPS fell on tough times.

Our way of life requires mail to ‘FIND’ us. Therefore we use a ‘Mail Service.’ There are many around the country. Our mail is sent to an address within the mail service using a Personal Mail Box 327 (PMB 327). Sherry calls for the mail every couple weeks and has it sent to the area we are in presently. Hiking or ‘on the road’ we try to pick a small town and have our accumulated mail sent there ‘General Delivery.’ We have met some very nice people in those small towns. Many times the Post Master hands us the mail. We have had some good conversations because they are not ‘pushed or rushed’.

Growing up I was taught that the mail boxes, even rural mail boxes were ‘sorta sacred’, free of theft. After all it is a FEDERAL OFFENSE to steal or burglarize mail from those boxes.

I remember very well starting to drop mail into a US Mail box in Las Vegas and seeing a warning. “Last collection at this box is 9PM. Any Mail Deposited Later Is Subject to Theft in This Area.”

To tell the truth I was shocked!

NOW, in our small town, the outside drop boxes have been removed.  Because…. “Someone burglarized them!”

That hurts, it is hard to believe someone would do that here in our town.  Of course it is no longer our ‘small’ town. It has grown by leaps and bounds. BUT TO STEAL MAIL!! That hurts.
