Sticker shock and hand me downs

I am basically a cheap skate. Sherry said,  “I am going to JC Pennys to see if they have any sandals on sale I like.” I asked, “Do you want me to go?” YES was the answer. so off we go. Let’s stop by Kohls first, she suggests.

Walking in I look at men’s jeans, sticker price $98pLEVI1-10215043t241x292 98 dollars. for a pair of Levi’s? Y’all gone crazy? Roses sells Wranglers for $12 and Rustlers for $10, they are denim, they are blue, they are much better price.  do people pay that?  Sherry found sandals Orig $65 marked down to about $12. (checked out and the register receipt says you saved $85, do people believe that too?)

I really do not know how to buy clothes for myself at a retail shop. My suits are over 30 yrs old. they still look good and aren’t ‘out of fashion’. My dress shoes were bought for Sherry’s 25 HS reunion. We attended her 55th reunion was last year, So,  I got to wear the exact clothes again, am I frugal or what? (I know some of you say cheap!). (I betcha some of those rich folk wish they could get into the same clothes they wore 35 yrs ago!)

The shirts I love, came from yard sales, or hand me downs by widows of friends.. It is seldom you see any men’s clothes at a yard sale. We usually wear ours until they are  rag quality.

In the last two months I have had hand me downs from the most unlikely places, my grandson and my son. both gave me a pair of Tennis shoes.  Well grandpa ain’t gonna complain.

We met Alligator Ed, in Florida. He buys used jeans, shoots them with a shotgun, sells them for $150. The shell costs $.50, pretty good profit.

jeans for sale

I noticed girls jeans that are torn up, cost up to $90, now I may be dense, but if you pay that much for torn jeans you are much more dense than I, Gungadin.

Thanks for coming this way.

PS:

========
A Sunday School teacher began her lesson with a question, "Boys and girls, what do we know about God?"
A hand shot up in the air. "He is an artist!" said the kindergarten boy.
"Really? How do you know?" the teacher asked.
"You know - Our Father, who does art in Heaven... "

I wear my clothes out also. I do watch what kind of shoes I get though on account of this back. As much as you and Sherry travel just take your old jeans, shoot holes in them and keep wearing them, everyone will think you are in style LOL. Helen

You sound exactly like my husband. Anything over $10-$12 for a shirt or pair of jeans is too much. I paid $39 for a pair of shoes, for him and I thought he'd have a heart attack.

I have so many clothes collected over the years that I'll probably never wear them out. Just like the shirt I have on today that I save for Labor Day weekend every year. It's the only day I wear it and it'll never wear out at this rate. I'm glad I don't have to shop much as it wouldn't be in my budget for sure. Glad the shoes were on sale. That was a good buy. Happy Labor Day Weekend!

It appalls me to see the prices of retail clothes these days. I rarely buy anything new except for sneakers. My mom was on a tight budget but one thing she was a stickler about was making sure we had good fitting, quality shoes; might only have one pair of them, but they were of the finest quality. Conversely, I can't wear cheap shoes, LOL. But that's my only extravagance. Otherwise, I try to look at garage sales or second hand shops for my simple needs!

hope you and Sherry are doing well; thinking of coming back from break, just not quite sure yet :)

I'm still wearing suits that I bought 15 years ago. However, I think I wear them more often than you do? ☻ Really...it seems ridiculous to me that people want to wear torn and frayed clothes in public. Now - to work in - that's different. And the thoughts of paying near a hundred dollars for a pair of blue jeans just shows how foolish mankind's values are. My oh my.

Anyway, since retirement i basically live in my gym clothes unless I'm doing a Happy Hour with the gals and get a chance to dress up a bit.

Yeah, retail prices are outrageous and I remember the days of the business dress suits and heels and the cost of dry cleaning all took a chunk out of my paycheck in those days.

Hugs, Rose

Whoopie here is the other comment..surprise

My closet is full of clothes but wear the same thing all the time. Love shoes and clothes and
love to shop but never pay full price I wait
for sales. Consignment shops have really good
buys and good looking clothes. It is a shock
to see the price on clothes today.
