SALE of NOT?

For most of my life I have been a frugal person, as my friend from ‘dribbles by chuck’ used to say, “Translate that as CHEAP”. I have been sort of a salesman at times, and like everyone, a BUYER many  times.

I have known people who were GOOD HONEST salesmen. That is not to say they were employed as Salesmen. In my life I have had three brothers in law who were REAL SALESMEN. And a brother who knew sales.

Dick and Jim could could have ice cubes to Eskimos as the saying goes. You could be around them when they were talking about something and you would find yourself wanting what ever product they were talking about or you would want to go to the place they were describing. They had charismatic personalities. Both were highly successful in their chosen fields.

Then there is Elmer who knew the knack of selling, and that is what he did for a living. He chose running a Roach Coach. It is a dicey thing to run credit on a roach coach, but Elmer always did. I have known others who would say, “Elmer you cannot do that, people will quit their jobs and leave you with the bill.”  His standard answer was, “Tell Sears & Roebuck that!”

And then there was Lefty, Sherry’s brother and Junior my brother. Both great guys. They were successful salesmen with no flair, just straight forward honest men. The product is here, if you want it good. If you don’t I am not going to be upset. It is a good product at a fair price. They both had a take it of leave it attitude, without an ‘attitude’.

Most shoppers, especially the female brand were upset when Ron Johnson came into play as CEO of JC Penny. He must be a lot like me but with plenty of money (RICH). I have said thousands of times why don’t the stores just sale their products at a fair price and forget the danged little ‘discount cards’, coupons and SALES?

The answer is, some smart PR sales guy just after WWII came up with ‘SALES’ as THE pitch. Yes I know sales have been around longer but someone made a TREND out of it.

Me & Johnson are dinosaurs, but he is a rich one.  He had the intelligence to say, “I was wrong, the public demands sales!”

Anyway he proved that I am wrong in my assumption folks will buy if the price is right!

PS:

Methinks that many folk buy things, just because they are on sale, whether they need it or not.

I just got a blouse on clearance for $4 (and a water-resistant, fleece-lined coat for my son for $20). I'm happy.

My sister and I liked to joke about my aunt's phrase when she found a garment at a clearance price. "You couldn't buy the fabric for that!"

Sometimes clearance sales really are sales.

I do laugh at some things that salesmen say. I prefer a straight shooter myself.

I agree just sell it for a fair price and forget the sales, coupons and all the hassle of keeping up with it.

I buy sale or no sale. You said
for me to spend, spend my money. I am doing my best.

I agree with you about Jim and Dick. When they bought something and describe what they just bought you wanted to go and get one for yourself. Both were great, honest
guys.

Selling at a reasonable price sounds like a plan to me...then there would be no need for "deep discounting"....

Don was a good salesman...he had the ability to get people to do the job he wanted/needed done...well he had to be that way didn't he...after all he ended up a MSG in the USA. he had to be able to get his troops to do what they were told. me...I've never been able to convince anybody of anything :D

I think it is true, everybody loves a sale. I don't buy much of anything anymore but when I do I look for sale first before paying full price. It looks like rain is coming our way today. Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Hello! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers?
My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of
hard work due to no backup. Do you have any solutions to protect against hackers?

I tend not to drop a great deal of comments, however i did some searching and wound up here
"SALE of NOT?". And I do have 2 questions for you if it's allright. Could it be just me or does it give the impression like a few of these responses come across like they are left by brain dead people? :-P And, if you are posting on other sites, I would like to follow anything new you have to post. Could you make a list of all of your communal pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?

I will buy at a sale - but I don't particularly look for them. When I'm ready to buy something I just go with the money in my pocket and buy it. Then I'm outta there. While the salesperson is still trying to sell me accessories (like they did yesterday when I bought that chain saw.) ha.

You may be frugal but you are not cheap. Financially cheap people are also emotionally cheap..but I have found you to be very emotionally generous. And I bet Sher gets whatever she wants(though I don't picture her as materially demanding at all). ~Mary

ps I've often had coworkers who go shopping whenever they receive a % off coupon for a store in the mail. They don't need anything, but they do not want to pass up a "sale."
