Take the blame

“Take the blame when you deserve it.” That is the response of Gretchin Rubin when she was asked the best advice she had ever received.

(Looks like a flower river, huh)

Too many folks are ready to give advice at the drop of a hat. I have mentioned it on this blog several times, I try not to give too much advice, but sometimes I cannot help myself, I am just so danged smart. I can usually FIX anyone else’s problems in a few insightfully wise words. (NOW MY PROBLEMS ARE A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR, LOL).

Vivian Shiller wrote, “The best advice I ever received was: Know yourself, you are NEVER as good as your best reviews and NEVER as bad as the worst ones.

Advice is best given when asked, and then sometimes the asking is out of a feeling of obligation.

Some of us learn slower than others, as I grow older I find my shoe fits my mouth better and better. (Does anyone know where that saying came from?)

Some folk know how to give advice without ‘giving a lecture.’ My mama could do it with a look.

In a survey of the best advice, it was found that most of the great advice and guidance has come from one’s mother. I can believe that.

When you are actually smart or trained in a particular field, IT IS HARD NOT TO GIVE ADVICE AND TRY TO MAKE CORRECTIONS!

When I was reading the survey on advice, the one that stuck out was from Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist. He prefaced his statement with a story of how when working  with IBM he alienated half the office with his constant corrections. He said later, the best advice he ever received was, “Do not correct people when it matters little.”

Some of the things we put a priority on, actually matters little in the long run.

I worked closely with my son Mark in the construction business. Mark never failed to listen to me, he nodded when I told him how I wanted something done.THEN HE WOULD DO THE JOB THE WAY HE WANTED TO.  In that case I seldom said anything because he always did do a good job. When I read what Craig said, it hit home, that was one time I actually DID NOT CORRECT because it didn't matter.

Thanks for stopping by.

PS:

Most of us find it is much easier to give advice, than to take it. (many times we don’t  heed our own advice)

I like the 'do not correct without need' mentality.

Please have you all a good new week.

Why not give advice we are always
right. hee hee.

It is hard not to correct or say
something when you see it going wrong. OH I will just keep
my mouth shut, mum is the word.

I've scars on my tongue from having bitten it soooo many times. (Not that I'm so wise .... just a big chicken, fearing I might alienate someone.)
... Plus, I suspect my life might someday serve as "A: Bad Example." lol.

Love that share by Mr. Newmark, Jack.

Wishing you and Sherrie a happy new week!

I find myself holding my tongue more and more lately. It comes with raising too many kids under my roof at this ol age....I must be getting tired or is that ' too soon olt and too late schmart?'

I have that foot in mouth disease. Always mouthing off when I shouldn't. People don't like to hear what I have to say most of the time and always have their own ideas. I love the pictures of the flowers in your post. Hope you all have a great Monday!

so not much has changed in DC :D

the last advice I gave was probably to my EX husband...I don't give advice anymore...sometimes I'm tempted when commenting on someone's post...9 times out of ten though I delete my advice and try to leave a simple one or two word comment!

advice is a tricky thing...even if it's requested...sometimes it's misunderstood and the person becomes defensive...I almost never ask for advice...sometimes my DIL asks my advice...I try to give her support but NOT advice :D

I am certainly guilty! I work with people that don't seem to care as much as I apparently do! Good advice. And I am better at zipping my lip! LOL!
