Sunday mornings Sherry and I shared our normal half biscuit with jelly at McDonalds.
She orders, I get napkins and find a seat. Today for some reason, as I sat waiting, I was noticing teens. I was remembering our teens. I met Sherry when I was 15, started dating her when I was 16 and we married when I was 17.
(As a kid you want to be 18)
It seems to take teens longer to grow up now than in the ‘50’s. BUT they are still teens. They have such fun, joking, telling wild stories doing the latest fads, etc. Girls in the shortest shorts, long dresses and every thing in between. Piercings and boys with ear rings, wild hair doo’s. But most of all just having fun.
Yeah…. I sat there smiling as I remembered my hair (fondly), Wild Root Cream Oil was my choice for my duck’s tail. I pegged my pants and turned my collar up. We went thru a time of the skinny belts, they were 1/2” wide and several colors (red, light blue, pink and dark blue). Of course you didn’t have them all, I had blue.
(Me with mama that was a blue suede jacket)
We had penny loafers, two tone and suede shoes. If you couldn’t afford a leather jacket (I was 58 yrs old before I got one) the jean or suede jacket would do. We put heel taps on our shoes and on occasion would put the metal chair glider buttons on our shoes. Then run and slide on a sidewalk at night and leave a line of sparks, you could slide 20 feet in the school hall (until you got caught) that was way out cool.
(Once I had sort of a flat top with DA)
The boys, that were cool, would roll a pack of cigarettes up in the short sleeve of a T-shirt, after lighting up with a stick match (struck on the belt or jeans). (Then eat wild onions before going home)
Of course no boy would have dared wear an ear ring. Anyway, I recalled a lot of stuff before my girl came over with our breakfast. Sunday she only paid for the biscuit, the coffee was free, I am a cheap date. LOL
Thanks for stopping by.

PS:
In his 80’s, before our local celebrity Mr. Jackson died , he would sing “I wish I was Eighteen Again”. Sometimes memories are just plain fun.
(Janet, Vernon,Sherry, Jack & Shirl, yeah in your 70’s you think of 18 again)

Looking back in time always conjures up great memories. Sounds like you had a boatful.
Believe it or not at one time I even sported a DA. I do remember those flat tops and crew cuts too. The t shirts and jeans for the boys was very popular but jeans for girls didn't catch on till much much later. We wore skirts and dresses with bobby socks with our penny loafers or black and white oxford shoes. Tennis shoes were mostly for gym class. Lots of good memories ! Teen age years are hard ones though. It's not easy growing up. This year 3 of my grands became teens.
It's warmer but windy today in mid 60's. Hope you all are having some wonderful Spring weather there.
You know you have the best memories - I think that is so awesome. Do you look at your pictures and think back and then write about them?
I do remember everything - either I remember them personally or was told about them. Those were the good old days.

your Mom has the most beautiful face...so full of cheerfulness and happiness! enjoyed your memories!
Yes, it is memories I eat from when things get tough.
Please have you all a good Tuesday.
Those were the good years. Some
memories you want to hold. Some were not to happy when the boy you like didn't like you. Most were
happy..Loved those years.
If I could go back in time, I'd write in that diary every
day ~ that way I'd have as great a recall of those teenage years as Jack Darnell ~ AMAZING, great entry!
hee hee...
Once upon a time, a long time ago, «Louis» had hair.
In 1957, «Louis» wore that hair in a flat top. These days, he wears it in one of those fashion-forward REVERSE Mohawks...
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I remember that Wild Root Cream Oil - and that my Mother-in-law placed a pad on the top of the lounge chair I sat in to catch the dirty greasy spot I would leave behind! hahaha. Then when I changed hair styles, the butch wax to hold the flat top straight up was no better! Wonderful days. Today's teens have it lots worse with their pants falling down and crack showin'. Awful...
Enjoyable reading your memories.
Good memories! When Mel and I were dating he always sat in the same chair until we could excuse our selves and get going in his 50 Plymouth. My Mama always laughed at the greasy spot where he leaned back against the wall.

My friends Peter & Katerina met at 19 & 17 & married 2 years later. They are one of the happiest couples I know. I never did the oranges thing ;o, but I have some odd young memories.
You & your wife still look great, & in love too.
Life is sure different today then when I was a kid! I like listening to your memories. They are the best stories from our lives. Thanks for sharing some of yours. I love the cars you share here too!
