Biloxi, MS Day 2.. Today…190 mi. Total miles ..640 mi.

We had a good trip. I Blew the horn as we passed the Exit at Evergreen, AL. the exit  closer to Opp where our friend Jean (Sybil) and Grover live.  On down I-65 we joined I-10 heading west into Mississippi.

Into Mississippi, we passed Pascagoula (remember the squirrel in the 1st Self Righteous Church) We met such a wonderful couple here when we were volunteering after Katrina.

To Get to our RV park we took Popp’s Ferry Road into Biloxi. We got to the crossing just after This barge and tug had cleared the draw bridge.

Biloxi, Mississippi we lived here over 50 years ago. I was in the AirForce my pay was about $200 a month total. Rent was $42 a month we lived a b lock from down town and three blocks off the beach. At the end of Magnolia St. across the highway was public piers and the beach of the Gulf Coast.

That is Sherry way up the walk (street). This was once Magnolia St. where we lived. After Camille it was closed and made into a walk way called  Rue Magnolia. It was  never very wide anyway.

That Casino Hotel in the back ground is on the beach. The one in the foreground is the biggest hotel when we lived here.

At the end of Rue Magnolia now, instead of the public piers and beach is Hard Rock Café Casino.

This was between our house and the beach. We passed it every day and di not know it was a slice of history, built in 1737. Ah the thinking of 20 year olds. LOL

But the lighthouse in the median is the same Road to and Biloxi MISSISSIPPI 019

Along with the beach away from the casinos.

While living here I took Sherry to the hospital to have her first child, Jack Jr. They took her and said, “You can go home we won’t need you.”  They really didn’t mean I had a choice, they said there is no place for you here, we will call and let you know when the baby is born. Things have changed a lot.

(This is the kid they found for us, a year later)

There were no Casinos here then. It was an AF Town, but the biggest industry was Shrimping. Now the biggest business is gambling. There is even one Casino what offers your first $100 back if you lose it.

Usually the food in the casinos is good and reasonable. So we will eat there this evening. Of course it is hot here, but we are in a good spot, and both A/C units are working.

Tomorrow we head for Slidell, LA, just north of Nawlins.  We will drive  into Nawlins and sight see some.

PS:

It is amazing the Hurricanes that have hit here and the Ancient places with stood the storm, the new stuff is now NEWER!

Oh, I'm enjoying reading this and lingering over the pictures!

Only 5 minutes at the computer, and I'm longing for the deep South once more, and some honest-to-goodness fried okra and greens.

Enjoy one another, and please stay safe! (I'd better stop right now before bursting into "Happy Trails to youuuuuu!)

Hugs,
Myra

PS - Your caption on young Jack's photo just cracked me up!

Glad you made it safe. My friend
Dee lived in Nawlins on the same
street that Al Hirt the Jazz
trumpet player lived. She like it there and would go back for visits.
I guess you will stroll down
Bourbon street.

Have a good time and be safe.

Loved taking the drive back in time with you to Biloxi.
I bet you and Sherry loved every moment of reminiscing!
I like the maternity clothes like Sherry is wearing. Perhaps I am old fashioned, but I do NOT like the skin-tight clingy maternity tops I see today. I don't like them at all.
Happy traveling.
Love this blog!

Glad you made it safely and now can enjoy some good times there with your boys. That place has a lot of good memories for you and sounds like you will have lots to see and do. I'll be looking forward to your pictures. Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Your 'girl' is still a cutie! I love traveling with you two. Now if it were up to me, I'd stay at the OLD hotel vs. the new one. Safe travels my friends.

She looks aglow in that picture.

You can go home? How did you tuck that disappointment away at the time? A different time, a different world. ~Mary
