Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, TEXAS

We arrived to a pleasant day. We left Medina Lake in the rain believe it or not. I usually get upset at the rain, but it was needed so much I had no problem getting ready for the move.

TO DEL RIO 004

Yesterday we drove down and did find some water in the lake. Glenda done some research and found the lake is a reservoir and is down 70-80’.

Hwy 90 Goes through Brackettville, just outside of town John Wayne and a Rancherxxxx built a replica of Old San Antonio and the Alamo to film the movie the Alamo. It is still there and many films have been made on the set. Sherry and I visited it our last time down. Very interesting.

TO DEL RIO 020

On the road thru Castroville and Hondo I loved seeing the Steel girder bridges I remember from my youth around home.

The trip was great. Texas has this driver’s courtesy that I have not seen in any other state. When the  shoulder is wide enough, and you are overtaking a car on a two lane road, the drivers will move to the right onto the shoulder and allow you to pass. I try to follow the lead of customs, so I was doing that on highway 90 coming down. the cars passing would flash their blinkers in thanks. I think that is such a nice practice.

TO DEL RIO 013

All traffic away from the border must go thru this check station.

We noticed the closer we came to the border the entrances and fences at the ranches were higher and tighter. The first time we left the border years ago and started away from the border about 25-35 miles away from the border there was a car/truck/bus check station. Checking for illegals. I guess most illegals know this, but to the ones who don’t it will be a very unpleasant surprise.

The showers have lowered the temps. They were calling for 104 here in Del Rio but now our gauge shows 83, and very pleasant.

Thanks for stopping by the log.

PS:

We are at a site but no host has shown up yet. So we just sit and wait and I can make this entry.

Saw this baby yesterday when Sherry and I went to the local Pizzeria for pizza.

Water levels seem to be low nation wide... It has been raining here for the past several days and some are complaining, but we need the rain so much. I am thankful.
Love the courtesies afforded to those in Texas on the highways. I've never heard of that, but I thank you for sharing it.
A courtesy that we have here in South Georgia that I thought everyone had (and I found out from relatives that were visiting from the North that I was wrong about that) is that during a funeral procession here (South Georgia)...all other oncoming drivers pull to the side of the road and stop. All of these vehicles remain stopped until the funeral procession has passed. I found out (the hard way) that everyone doesn't do this. I saw a funeral procession coming, and I pulled to the side of the highway to stop...and almost got hit...horns blaring...people passing me by shaking their fists and were irritated beyond belief at me. I thought, "What are they doing? There is a funeral procession. Don't they know you stop out of respect!?" Nope. Not a practice that all adhere to, apparently. Here (South Georgia)...if you don't stop, you should expect to see a car with blue lights pulling along beside you...as you THEN respectfully pull over. :))
Thanks for sharing, Jack.
Hugs,
Jackie

Oh now I understand, you are going to the air base. A different "ball of wax" then when we went to Mexico to a dentist and to buy medicine. We had a beautiful rain this morning and we did a lot of pulling over to the shoulder to let those fast trucks pass.

Glad you had a good trip. We had
rain last night and again today.
Bad flooding in Huntersville,
and West Charlotte.

Enjoyed seeing the planes at the
AFB. Love the old car. I think green must have been a good color
back then.

Hope everything goes well tomorrow.
Stay cool...and safe.

I have never driven where drivers are respectful! lol

And the planes - I know my husband would love that.

Your window out of the RV is huge.

What a trip of a lifetime.

Glad to hear you have some cooler weather there. I've never been to that part of our country at all so always enjoy the pictures. Isn't it nice to know that there are some courteous drivers left in the world. Take care and enjoy your trip.
