First thing today was back down town and onto Keesler AFB:
The boy and his mom at the hospital where he was born.
While we were shooting the pictures a young Airman came down the steps, about 20 yrs old. I told her we were just taking pictures of the hospital our son was born in over 50 yrs ago. She looked bewildered, like, has this place been here that long? LOL
BELOW (Back to yesterday), this is a picture I took of Sherry while we were waiting at the Casino, Note the sign behind, now you know!.
Leaving Biloxi, Stopped by Flying J in Gulfport, MS took on 77 Gallons of Diesel @ $3.72, we are getting 8 MPG on this trip. Good for this Cummings and hoping to do better on the flat lands. LOL
We stopped by the Stinnis Space Center Welcome center (I-10). They have the Limb on display (remember the moon landing?).
It was a short ride down the Gulf Coast, of course a lot of memories of the first time we drove down to NOLA. Thru Picayune, MS to Slidel where we decided to Park so we could drive into Nawlins to sightsee. We hope to get a river ride in along with the beneighs and coffee.
Some of you have met Fred Alton here on the net. We met him in Biloxi, I was an Airman he a Petty Officer in the Coast Guard. We had something in common. We lived in the same trailer park, and he was a preachers kid. I bring that up because he had lived in Nawlins when his dad pastored a church there. He had lots of tales of New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA).
Also a very serious note. Remember our friend Fred in your prayers.
We are in Pine Crest RV Park in Slidell, Louisiana. We have already went down to the French Quarter, to the Café du Monde, and had coffee and beneighs.
The Church in the back ground is St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter.
It is absolutely beautiful inside.
The wooden amplifier behind the pulpit is hand carded, along with the pulpit itself, works of art.
More NOLA tomorrow.
Thanks for traveling with us.
Nite Shipslog
PS:
We are having a great time with the ‘boys’.

WOW what fun you're having recapturing the past and making new memories. ENJOY!
It looks like you all had a busy and wonderful day seeing all the sights. Lots of good food too! I loved seeing all the pictures.
Looks like a lot of fun ! My hubby is home and doing well, we may just have some more traveling days ourselves!
I always have thought it was so nice when the folks can take the kids on a road trip. I still think it's great!
Your handsome family sure is having a good time. Thanks for taking me with. I'm enjoying it.

Looks like you are having a good
time and enjoying the sights.
That Church is beautiful..
Dewey is about beside himself
waiting for you guys to get there.
He keep saying why are they stopping...he is so funny. He is
doing housework and yard work
for your arrival..
«Louis» has been enjoying reading your travelogue.
You made him hungry for beignets and coffee with chicory. He wandered off to the kitchen and brewed up some Frog Fuel - but he couldn't come up with any beignets...(sigh)
You showed two of the four Hawks Studebaker offered in 1956. The Power Hawk (V8) and the Flight Hawk (6) were built on the "C" body, the pillared coupe. The other two were the Sky Hawk and the Golden Hawk, both built on the "K" body, the hardtop version. The Sky Hawk had the Studebaker 289 V8 in it, but the Golden Hawk got the Packard 352 V8. The automatic transmission Golden Hawks used Packard's Twin Ultramatic, while the automatic transmission used in the other Hawks was Studebaker's Flightomatic.
I'd love to travel back to Abilene someday and get a pix of my son in front of Hendricks Hospital ... what a cute idea you had!
All those years of traveling back and forth 'tween Texas and Florida, and never once stopped in NOLA.
Love the smiles I feel behind your words, Jack.
