Total Fuel used___?__ Mileage ?____ mpg
A couple years ago we made what I called our twilight trip around the country, because I thought we would never do it again. So although I have said NEVER SAY NEVER, I still do it at times.
The first two weeks are structured because we have our two sons with us. We wanted this, because last year we had a week or so together and had one of the best family times since they were kids, on the moto-cross circuit.
We want them to experience the French Quarter and especially the ‘CafĂ© du Monde’ and their chicory coffee with those heavenly beneighs.
We want them to see a part of history that was a battle cry of many, “Remember the Alamo”. As many times as I go there I think back to the decision those unknown and Famous men made. They knew they were going to die, no quarter. But they stayed.
We want them to eat on the River Walk and observe the festivities. Maybe visit some towns around, even travel to Brackettville.
So this is the first day of “Probably our last hurrah” at long distance trips. WE stopped at the Pilot Flying J to load up with fuel and eat at Dennys. IOur diesel was $3.35, gas was $3.06. That is probably the least expensive we will see on the whole trip.
That is Kings Mountain, SC as we leave NC. Location of a famous Revolutionary Battle, General Ferguson was killed there.
This odyssey is planned to be near three months and approx 7000 miles. We are in Greenville, Alabama for our first night. We were in four states today:NC,SC,GA and AL. We passed near some of our dear Internet friends but as I figured we were behind, both Sons were a little late getting ready and we were 2 hrs late checking into our RV park here.
(The SC Peach, don’t laugh Sheila!)
(Sherry taking a picture of the crew, all the comforts of home.Mark sleeping, Jack on his tablet and me at the wheel.)
(My GPS took us thru Atlanta (not around Atlanta) This is the sky and skyline Mean rain storm some very bad wrecks, we were spared, any trouble)
Thanks for traveling along with us. I hope you enjoy the trip.

PS:
I get excited just feeling that Cummings Diesel in the rear of the coach pushing us along and towing the little FIT.

Oh wow you four are going to have so much fun traveling together. I'm enjoying the trip too. Oh reading your book, we are singing Amazing Grace now. Loving this book.
The design of that Avanti is timeless! The Loewy design team for the original 1963 design did a great job!
What a great family adventure. ENJOY!
Love traveling with you via your blog.
We always go thru Atlanta and not around it. It is shorter and the skyscrapers are beautiful.
I saw a car today that I'm pretty sure you are gonna love.
I took photos, and when we get home (we are traveling right now) I will post a photo of it. As a matter of fact, when I took the photo, I thought, "Jack will love this car. "
Safe and happy travels to all of you.
Hugs from Jackie
Glad you had a safe trip. I know
you will have fun.
I almost bought an Avanti it was
a beautiful car. I don't know
what changed my mind probably
because it was used couldn't afford
a new one. They were pretty expensive.
Looks like Mark is relaxing.
Good to see you all are on the road. I hope you enjoy it all and seeing the sights with your boys. It should be quite an adventure.
Jack and Sherry, I think having the boys along was a great idea. My old bones would not hold up up that much raveling, but I am glad you are all able to be together on the trip. Kids throw the timing off a little don't they, even when they are older. But it sounds like it is going to be a terrific trip. Thanks for letting me travel along in comfort. Good pictures. BE CAREFUL OF THE OTHER DRIVER. There are some fools out there. Come home safe.
Sounds like a great start to your road trip, exciting agenda coming up - especially looking forward to hearing about New Orleans. Glad you got your boys along for the ride, enjoy!
Well, you're probably in NOLA now! Makes me smile to remember the coffee and French Quarter donuts ... with powdered sugar everywhere. When you are there, you are only a few blocks from the old Spain Street Church where Daddy pastored when I was a boy. We three boys frequently rode our bikes to the French Market. Hugs to Jackie and Mark. I need Mark for another trail hike soon, O.K.? ☺
I would have like it if you stopped in Atlanta! lol. sandie
We like the but...um peach in SC. I believe there is a similar one in Clanton, AL. I know Greenville, too, Rick lived there in his other life...BM (before me). My GPS tries to send me straight through Atlanta too, but I know the exits to go around...ha. Stay safe and enjoy your travels, we'll enjoy them too through your blog. Love from NC, Sheila
4 states? You don't meander indecisively. You have a plan. When do you find the time to write? I know some people in NJ who have never been to 4 states yet, nevermind in a day.
Sometimes you & Sherry look about the same age as your sons. Must be all the driving ;).~Mary
