San Antonio, Alamo and River Walk

On our way to the Alamo we parked a Hotel parking deck. We walked thru to the River walk:

Looking out from the second floor:

The crew looking to find our way to the Alamo.

Walking past some beautiful Cholas(?) Sherry mom’s favorites.

Then I got her picture.

And then I got a kiss. Sherry said “Now take the boys.” Mark said, “I ain’t kissing!” We all got a big laugh.

Note one of the many water falls behind them.

Above is a sample of the huge info boards of the history of the Alamo. They are on display out in the court yards. Below is the monument to the 32 men from Gonzales who died.

Inside the Alamo there are flags, state and country, of the volunteers who died. Each flag has the number of men from those states or countries. I took note of NC and SC both had 7 men to die. All were volunteers and were not ordered there by the US Government. This was a Texas/Mexico situation. The Texans wanted to be free of Mexican rule. As you can see in the Alamo, many men and women came from the states to assist the Texans.

No pictures are allowed taken inside. And they mean it. I have found very few on the net. Here are some I did find, the back wall is shown here.

This is some of the flags indicating the men who died here. A pennant is attached with the # from that state/country.

Inside the alamo2Old shot from the inside of the Alamo

Very old picture without all the artifacts and flags.

Old sketch of the Alamo

A layout of the Alamo itself. At the time there was no roof.

Well that about concludes Down town San Antonio as far as our short visit. There is more to see of course, so come on down.

PS:

Sight seeing is most important to me. I am thankful I do have my sight still, and can enjoy the beauties of nature. I cannot hear the creatures Sherry hears out here in the woods though.

«Louis» continues to enjoy your Texas travelogue!

The photo of the Delage was taken at Pebble Beach, near Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. What a fabulous car!
