No dictionary has ever been able to define the difference between
"complete" and "finished."
However, in a linguistic conference, held in London, England, and attended by some of the best linguists in the world, Samsundar Balgobin, a Guyanese was the
clever winner.
His final challenge was this:

Some say there is no difference between "complete" and "finished."
Please explain the difference in a way that is easy to understand.
His response was:
When you marry the right person, you are "complete." If you marry the wrong person, you are "finished;" and, when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are "completely finished."
His answer received a five-minute standing ovation.

My vocabulary is about 8th or 10th grade. My English usage is closer to 5th grade.

My last book, and I think my best,  Finally Love, was proofed by a friend I met on the internet, on a forum I frequent.  Bonnie volunteered to proof the book when Sherry said, “No more. I want to read the book and enjoy it.”  Sherry is very good in English usage.  She was a Beta Club member in High School and very sharp. But she loves to read, not proof, check and correct.

Bonnie was very good, and I think you that have read the book will agree. I learned from Bonnie and Sherry, but it did not increase my vocabulary.

I have had men work for me who had degrees who could not  write a pass-down log to inform the oncoming shift where they were on the job. I am very disappointed in myself for not studying more, there are times I think of returning to school just to improve my own ignorance.

The degreed exception was was Kim Farr, he did not have to tell me that he was educated, I knew it.  I had to drag the information out of him, as to where he had attended college. His only statement was.

“I worked my way thru a school in New Jersey. My fellow students were from wealthy families. Most of them bought their degrees by paying guys like me to write their papers and take tests for them. Men graduated ahead of me that I had done their work.”

“What school?”

Princeton.”

Kim was much younger than I, he passed away last year. I had lost all contact with him until a mutual friend told us in a Christmas card. Kim was one likeable guy. I enjoyed his wit.

Thanks again for reading the log.

I just labeled this a beauty when I saw it. I know it is in the 1930’s.  I want one!

I wish I had been a good student and worked harder. I hated school and would have quit but my mama wouldn't hear of it.

I think we all regret we didn't
apply our self in school. I regret
not giving my attention to my
piano lessons. I started playing
for Church so I thought I was good
and stop studying. Life is good
and at my age I an not going to
worry anymore.

I guess you know that my favorite subject in school was English.
That was my major in college.
And...I blame any and all misspellings and incorrect grammar usage on the keyboard or 'auto correct.')
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Hugs,
J.

Having regrets for one reason or another is human nature. I'm just happy so I feel that life has been good to me, God always gives me hope even when things aren't like we'd like them, and thanking God, Bill and I have one another like you and Sherry. That makes us all complete, doesn't it.
I do wish I were smart. I'm not so smart you think me is...or like my Gram O used to say, 'Too soon olt, too late schmart'
Happiness counts.

I enjoyed school and learning, but after high school, enough was enough for me. I didn't have any ambitions to go further and thought I had picked a field I could retire from, now to find out 35 years later it is slowly dying a sure death. It is interesting about your friend writing papers for students at Princeton. I'm sure that happens lots of places even to this day.

Education doesn't always mean big words. Every day of my life I learn something new and I haven't gone back to school for it. Life teaches us a lot and sometimes I think I know more than some with a college degree. Of course I also consider somethings not worth knowing too. I did like the explanation of finished and complete. Hope you all have a great weekend there!

Jack, as far as I am concerned you have to be just as smart as the college kids. Look what you have accomplished. You are right your last book is the best so far. In my case this age thing keeps me off balance. I have lived a long life, but I am selfish. I want to live longer but without being severely affected by some crazy thing.

I love people who don't have to brag about things - have the best of things - the ones that know every thing - it gets to me at times. Sounds like Kim is a man who knew who he was on his own. sandie
