Done, but It was a little tougher….

This is the results of a stolen super car, deserted here in the desert.

 Some thoughts for today:

I did finish the window with a few misteps. One, I think I forgot after cleaning each pane of glass 4 or 5 times, I touched one of the cleaned pains and quickly wiped it without CLEANING it again. There will be one finger print there forever. LOL. Some of the glass was etched from the seepage and could not be cleaned perfectly. But the job is done, not perfect but so much better than it was it is like night and day.

I had to do a lot of ‘engineering’ work just to get it to this position.  It was a little heavier than I can handle. But with a lot of leverage and slowly easing it into place, I was able to work it in from this position.

This is the final job results, Sherry and I are both satisfied with the results.

Next RV job is to repaint the front of the coach, the original paint is faded.

We had another pleasant season today. Cousin Dewey brought our oldest cousin on dad’s side over to see us, Harold Fulbright.  He has had a tough time lately and is in an assisted living place for rehab. Harold is 89 now and able to get around on his walker.

 Some thoughts for today:

Sherry had planned to cook her great lasagna and invite the family over on Tuesday. One of the reasons was for Sherece’s Birthday. I was also tackling this RV window thing. 

Monday the doorbell rang and there stood Cousin Dewey currently of Las Vegas.

His last trip to China?  Not sure..

 He will spend a few days here visiting family and friends. His dream is to move to Taiwan and is downsizing out in LV.  He is a bachelor and is the only person in our family that keeps in touch with most everyone. I get lost in our family tree since his dad and mine are from a family of 13 siblings. While here he will bring us up to date to who is left.

This dude has friends ALL OVER THE WORLD. He let me see his phone. He has friends in: the UK, Germany, Spain, japan, China, several Islands, I counted at least 15 names and countries. He has the times best to call them beside their names.

He retired USN, worked and retired CA Bureau of Investigation. He loves movies and movie stars. Lived near Hollywood and has his picture with MANY movie stars.

You know he is a nut wanting to move to Taiwan. Born and raised in the south, he likes to think of NYC as his hometown and declares THAT IS THE PLACE TO LIVE! Anyway he is definitely a colorful cousin. ;-)

He flies out Thursday….

Something different to fix...

 Today’s automobile:

 This could be a 1950s Plymouth. if those are fins. LOL

 Some thoughts for today:

I have fixed or attempted to fix a lot of things.  But today I tackled one I have never attempted.  I have removed a window unit from the coach had has lost its leak proof integrity.  All three sections are fogged up. 

I couldn’t sleep this morning (I usually sleep until at least 9AM), so at about 5 AM I started the job in the basement.  Sherry and Sherece had helped me when I was trying to remove it. Well I was going to do it myself, but realized it was too heavy for this OLD man. It is only about 60 pounds but the height was bad. I had it loose and was stuck. Just holding it and thinking.  I didn’t want to drop it. The girls happened to drop by aand helped me. They held it in place until I could re-secure it and do some thinking.

I finally figured it out and it was in the basement awaiting me.

I am actually enjoying myself and I think I have about two more days, that is, if I can get it back together. The job is bigger than I thought. LOL  Lots of jobs like that NOW! 

A replacement window runs about $1300 and if I get it completed I will have spent about $250.

LOL  Wish me luck…

The drivers side window is the one I m repairing. It has two fixed panes and one slider.

Growing stuff

I would love to have this for a planter.. I could use silk flowers!  LOL

 Some thoughts for today:

When we lived in Valdese, NC there was a super big grape vine(s) behind the house. The grapes were red seeded and were delicious. Mama made some great Grape jelly & Jam.

I have tried to grow a grape vine at every house we have had. NO LUCK.  Well once in Charlotte I planted what I was told was a grape vine and it grew like crazy. It only produced miniature grape clusters (?) with grapes about the side of BB’s (1/8 -1/16”) in size.  But the VINES were fantastic. LOL.

 Year before Last year I BOUGHT a vine and planted it here. I actually got one small bunch off it. Guess what? This year the old vine is dead just a small new one with 4 leaves.

SHUCKS!

Sweet friends give us plants, I kill ‘em. EXCEPT this beauty given to us and planted by DIL Corinne.  Chek this out!

They are the prettiest flower I have seen. Probably gonna replace my favorite the Tulip, it is definitely tougher than the tulip.

Well I m going to enjoy it while I can. I am told it is a candle Lilly(?)  It is gorgeous…

Ahhhh, I owuld love to have this in my basement to play with!

 Some thoughts for today:

BUT 1st a note: I grew up skinning animals for food, my parents did before me. I just forgot.... It is not everyone's cup a tea..... nor way of life.  Of course it isn't ours amhy more... ;-)

Now for this....

I have a friend named Ed. He is a lifelong acquaintance ot Sherry & her family. His birthday is next week.  We took him out for dinner last night and enjoyed the evening.

He has had some very serious health problems but has fought back steady. He nearly died of this crazy Covid and took time to tell us about his month of fighting it. He is a widower and lives alone, so last Sept he fought a lone with stuff delivered to his door because he could not leave.

Friends are hard to come by, it was a great evening. At this age friends are becoming less in number. It is good to see the fight is still there.

Friends are special.

Life is good. Take care and BE a Friend when you can.

Justice for the cats

 'Coon in the Car'

 Some thoughts for today:

Mr. Raccoon has been bothering the cats. One of the black ones has lost an eye. So I decided to fix Raccoon for dinner for the cats, I thought that would be justice.

First I trapped the dude.

I took his clothes off:

Tried to stretch the skin:

Then I started the charcoal and decided to grill Mr. Raccoon.

I don't know how long to cook coon so I just burned it...... Then tried to get the kitties to try it, so far nada.

I don’t think I can make a coon skin cap, but tomorrow I will salt down the skin and try to scrape it.

Anyway Imma see if the cats will enjoy the raccoon! Well that is a joke. the Mama and Tom both ate a tiny piece.  So I threw it away.  Later they both were out looking where I had the meat, and looking like, "Where is it?"   Oh well it is the thought that counts.  LOL

My neighbor Richard said I should've boiled it first then grilled it, other wise it is too tough...  Live and learn...

To lose a loved one….

 That Car:

 What came first, the car or the house?

For today:

WE all have experienced death in our families, some closer than other. BUT most of these deaths are the end product of normal life and existence.

Cancer is to me one of the worst ‘natural’ things that end lives.

I cannot imagine having a son in the service of this country and getting the sad message delivered by someone in uniform to tell me he has been killed.  That is terrible.

BUT more than that, to have someone call you that your child has been killed at school must be one of the worst shocks to the foundations of a family.

Nuts are gonna bring us Gun Control, good bad or indifferent, with all the crazies out there. Shootings in school, in church, malls, etc.  Absolutely, if straight citizen John Doe must turn in his guns, the crooks will still have them. That is a fact jack.

I have heard good arguments for and against fully automatic weapons in public hands. Coming soon we will have some laws enacted, I just hope common sense is used.

We can have SOME Gun Control and not have the honest person punished.  We could have some control on types of guns. I am not smart enough for the answers, but there are people who are smart enough to come up with some rules.  After all we will take a drunk driver OFF the street when one is ID’d.  WE do have RULEs & Laws…..

Toilets

Today’s automobile:

If Paula was still around she would recognize this Well drilling rig.  She and Mel has one beside their home for years.

 Some thoughts for today:

Anyone familiar with the military knows someone must clean the toilets. In the Army and Air Force they are called ‘Latrines.’  In the USMC, USN and Coast Guard they are called “Heads.”

These Latrines and Heads are cleaned by the lower ranking enlisted personnel, usually E-3 and below. As most folks who read this ‘mess’ I write know that I spent a little over 20 years in the service of our country. Since I started three times at the bottom of the ladder I have a total of 8 years as an E-3 and below, so I know a lot about cleaning toilets!  LOL  I am a professional!!

One of the first things I do when we return to our home base after months, is check the commodes. You know one sitting for months accumulates ‘dinge’, I quickly clean all of them using a brush and Ajax.  I did not get a brush for the first few years I used a rag, cleaner and my hands. LOL (no, I did not have rubber gloves).  I call all cleaners Ajax, even if it is Comet, etc; that was the first cleaner I remember. LOL

Funny how names stick, I still say ‘dish rag and Ice box’ at times, I am sure that dates me.  I am feeling some better, THIS MORNING Sherry ‘THREATENED ME!”  i.e. Do not go in the woods nor get on the lawn mower!

(She knows I still recognize orders come from my Commanding Officer!)
