The Pandemic and RV’ing

  Memorable Automobiles from The Past:

We loved those white walls in the 50s.

Some of us had these curb feelers to keep from scrubbing the white walls against the curb. ;-)
For Today...

Most everyone we know KNOWS we are dyed in the wool RV’ers or modern Gypsies. I am shocked that it seems the RV industry is booming so It is hard to find a ‘reasonable site’ to stay in.

It stands to reason, more people feel safe in an RV. If a person can work from home, it doesn’t matter where home is.  For folks who work at home and also home school, there is no reason to have a mortar and stick home.

HOWEVER the check in policies are confusing as the dickens. We received an e-mail saying to CALL ahead to check in for lot # etc, no one is allowed in the office. Sounded good. BUT she got a call. No need to call, just go to the gate. The checkin line was about ½ mile long. But we got in. The person showing us to the site said go to the office after 3PM and get your paper work taken care of.

WE went at 4PM and waited in line outside. WE were 5 back in line. It took over 20 minutes for one person. OUCH>
A man came to find out what we needed...... Oh you need to go to the gate keeper he will take care of you. The 5 behind us left with us they had been told wrong also.

It was a little frustrating, but we are onsite and had our pork, greens, cornbread and black eyed peas. Sherry’s family followed the tradition, so she kept it up. My family did not.

We hope you had a good day and are ready for 2021. The last of 2020 was WEIRD and the first of 2021 from the news ain’t gonna be half normal, not to mention the Pandemic.

But we are gonna enjoy our vacation, nothing we can do to change world or national politics, so we think positive and pray.

It is interesting these days that one can travel and also be available to work from "home" or learn virtually as long as one has the Internet available :) Times sure have changed :) Glad eventually you got settled in and was able to make a great New Year's Day meal that sounded delicious. 2020 was the most interesting year I've lived and I have lived 63 of them. I'm thinking we aren't "out of the woods" yet but each day brings us closer to potentially returning to whatever normal we may be able to achieve :)

Your holiday dinner sounds delish.....a great way to start off another New Year with a tradition! I always forget that the small two cup bag of blackeyed peas becomes SIX CUPS after soaking, haha! So, they went into a 8-quart pot along with a hambone from Christmas and a bag of Cajun brown rice, sweet onion, and a couple of garlic cloves, minced. This recipe came from a "Southern" cook on her site; she serves it with "chow-chow", neither I nor my guest knew what that is, likely because we were born and bred north of the Mason Dixon line in Missouri! The southern-inspired Corn Pudding was a hit (kind of like cornbread but filled with creamed corn, sour cream and grated cheddar. YUM. Everyone got a carryout. and I have enough leftovers to feed friends who're stopping by this morning for their carryout---good thing I found those sectioned containers at Wally World!!!
My "accuweather read" indicates our evening temps will be in the 40s, YIKES! Y'all cuddle up [smile] you two are so loved, Glenda

What a frustrating experience! I wonder if the RV park is under new (inexperienced) management? At least there wasn't any honking and other rude behaviors going on. Maybe RV-ers are, by nature, kinder sort of road warriors.
Happy Vacation!

Now you are officially checked in, I hope you enjoy your stay. My son who lives in Florida can attest to the fact that it's busier than ever, with folks coming in for the winter.. Nothing is keeping them from enjoying a warmer winter home. I'm glad you have your home to keep safe in no matter where you go. Have a happy New Year!

When I was a kid we camped as a family for 2 weeks in the summer. After tent camping we thought it was so wonderful to have a pop up camper! I have many wonderful memories of those trips all over the U.S. Jack and I took our boys on cross country trips but we stayed in hotels...not sure if the camping would have been as fun as the Mom who planned it all and the Dad who drove and found the sites to stay in! However, our kids did get to see this fabulous country and have good memories too of our trips. Enjoy your vaca and stay safe and send a little sun up to Ohio please!

So glad to hear you're settled and the ' vacation ' is under way. I was studying the whitewalls and the curb feelers. This is the first I'd ever heard of them but wow, so much sense! Our New Years Eve meal was lasagna and the fixin's. Glenda mentioned Corn Pudding which is sooo good. I need to make it again. We all love it just like cornbread and black eyed peas. We never knew about the peas til we started going south to TX when my lil sis lived there. It's fun how traditional food changes area to area. Here's hoping you have a most delightful, adventurous time this year.
loven'hugs from up north where 5 of us cut, split and piled firewood all day for our 87 yr. old aunt. She made the best chili to surprise us. It was a good way to start the new year., invigorating.

I know how frustrating it can be to jump through all those hoops. I am already looking forward to our RV come spring. We are on a permanent campsite now as hubby is not able to travel but we will love being 'put' for a while. It is mostly long-time campers that have seasonal sites and we were lucky to get in (thanks to our well-liked son). Now if we could just get Wifi there it would be perfect! lol.
Hugs and love to you and your sweetie. I hope you have a wonderful, blessed 2021. Diana

Was a bit saddened today thinking that a year ago I wished Rick and his wife, Jilda, a Happy New Year. Life changes wait for no one....

We have noticed more RV’rs and campers too. Many have no clue what they are dong but I guess will learn the ropes real fast.
We call to make our reservations a year in advance and a week in advance if its a last minute plan. The campground stays full. We can go in the office 3 at a time and have to wear a mask. This is were we pick up our pass to hang on our rearview mirrow and the guard waves us on in. I have a feeling it is going to continue being more and more new campers.

Happy camping

Hahha one more thing....This also reminds me of a time we arrived at the campground and the parking lot was full so we just parked where we could find a spot. Before we could get out of the car to go into the office to check in, a guard came to the window and said “these parking spots are for campers”. I looked at him real serious and said “but we ARE campers”. Hahaha. We moved along.
