Commenters, do you remember the first?

I started a journal on AOL just because I like to write.  I made many many entries never even thinking of anyone wanting to comment.

cape-cod

(We had to drive to the very end to see it all)

We were on our first trip to the Cape Cod area, camped over looking Buzzard’s bay.  We were in a 21’ Ranger on a Toyota frame, no tow vehicle. I was on the internet via cell phone after 9PM because the minutes were free then. I don’t remember how I had it hooked up.

It was such a great trip, and such a wonderful feeling. We must have sang a few lines of Old Cape Cod, a hundred times. Patti Page sang that in 1957:

Martha%27s_Vineyard_Cottages

(Martha’s vineyard cottages, all very colorful)

If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air
Quaint little villages here and there
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

If you like the taste of a lobster stew
Served by a window with an ocean view
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

If you spend an evening you'll want to stay
Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

If you spend an evening you'll want to stay
Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

You're sure to fall in love
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Co

(Everything on Martha’s Vineyard is painted bright and colorful)

We visited Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, Plymouth and much more. To us it was the trip of a life time. Such a thrill to be at ‘Old Cape Cod’.

I was on a high, The ShipsLog had been picked as the AOL Journal of the Month. and still had no comments. There it was,  I looked down one evening, 1 comment!  What? A beautiful comment from a sweet lady named, LINDY.

What a joy to read. She said we were overlooking the area she had lived at one time.  Back when she remembered pushing the stroller to the Laundromat with the clothes basket on the handles. I fell in love';  A comment.

She drops by every once in awhile now, and each time it is a joy.

Thanks Lindy. You make me smile, BIG TIME.

PS:

There are lots of reasons to smile in this life, and some of them are special.

yes those first comments are so special and even now they are. I remember so many things about AOL Journals. One time I was considered for something but had to have a picture. I didn't have a picture online and had no idea how to put one on there had I had one. Sure miss some of the friends from there too. So glad I met you and Sherry and Shirl here.

I never heard of AOL journals,do they still exist? I have always been in love with Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard but not made it there yet.

Like you it was a long time before I received a comment and it was a surprise when it finally happened. I cannot remember at all who it was, but it was the beginning of friendships that have continued for many years now. I miss the ones that no longer blog and often wonder what happened to them. Now I get fewer and fewer comments it seems most of my friends have quit blogging. Thankfully though I still get a few. I do thank you for the comments you leave. They mean a lot.

I was never on AOL. However I think I blogged about 3 or 4 years before I got a comment. From Corgi Dog Mama - Susan. She doesn't come by anymore - but she was my first.

I don't know how people gt thousands - that is a lot!!!!!!!! to handle.

My first comment was from Dad of the Tomato Garden. Wish we still had AOL journals. I miss them.

I love the song Old Cape Cod with
Patty Page singing. Love to see
the pictures they do love very
colorful things but pretty to
view. Brother you sure have been lots of places that are interesting.
I have traveled with you through
your blogs and had enjoyable trips.

Ah-ha ... You've given words to what I've thought about time and again! :)
I love to write, but starting a blog was pretty frightening. When Charlotte over at Charlotte's Weblog left a comment (I'll never, ever forget!), you'd have thought I won the lottery. Validation .... right?

Love these pix of Cape Cod ... someday, maybe.

Hugs from Phoenix,
Myra

I never heard of that song or been in that area, Jack. I bet it is really pretty there though! I do remember my first comment. It was from Debbie at Frosty Tales. I don't believe she is blogging any more. I remember how exciting it was that people would actually want to read anything I wrote :)

«Louis» has never been to Cape Cod. He didn't realize it is shaped like a curly-q!

Now you've got that Patti Page song going in his head! (He likes the song, so it's OK!) :-)

He doesn't know what year that MG is. He's going to have to do some digging on that one!
