This Second Childhood

Once you  get as old as I (and some other bloggers I know), we find in this Childhood parents are not around to say, don’t do that!

susan4_small_small

I thought about that when I was commenting on Lucy’s blog where she mentioned that Joe had taken a fall.  And not long before Lucy took a nasty fall.

from ma s blog

(Borrowed from MA’s blog)

Even if some well intended son or daughter (or worse, a spouse) says, ‘you shouldn’t do that,’  just as in the first childhood, then you gotta do it just to show you can.

Men-Die-Before-Women-2

(No problem, solid as the rock of Gibraltar)

Problem is, in this second childhood, it is not a bump or scratch, it just might be a broken bone. The human is the strangest animal, at this age we should KNOW better than to take an obvious chance, BUT DANG IT, WE DO IT ANYWAY.

(This will just take a minute)

Men-Die-Before-Women-3

We really aren’t ignorant, we know Billy down the street just broke a hip and Mary over the hill just broke her arm.  We are the ones that said when we heard it, ‘they should have been more careful.’

Men-Die-Before-Women-14

(Notice the baby bottle. (problem how does he get down.))

But when it comes to us what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. We are sure we can do most everything we used to do, we sorta LIE to ourselves, we even BELIEVE OUR OWN LIES. Now is that silly or what?

After hearing of one of my friends being injured in a fall, I am very careful for a few days, then back to being a little careless. I KNOW YOU ARE NOT THAT WAY, but I am.

I am really enjoying this second childhood, I wish I could hear everything that is said about and to me, but maybe I don’t need to know that stuff. I might get my feelings hurt. I guess I am enough like my Daddy.  One of the first things he would say to the new congregation. Don’t ask me what my politics are, I am what you are.  And if you don’t like me, please don’t tell anyone, I think everybody loves me.

Funny in this second childhood, no one gets upset if I make a mistake or forget something. No one yells at me, they all know I am childish again.

I heard the other day WHY diapers are named Huggies, Pampers, and Depends. You know folks Hug and pamper in the first childhood, but in the second childhood, who changes the diapers DEPENDS ON WHO IS IN THE WILL.  Good nite kids.

Nite to you too, Shipslog.

PS:

RV Christmas 2013 001

The problem with this second childhood, you do not get a chance to grow up again.

I love this entry. I hadn't read yours when I wrote about john taking a chance with burning pear and he is threatening to do it after the first of the year. Love the saying about the Depends too. You keep coming up with the best subjects, but I didn't copy you this time. Hee hee

I try to be so careful up and
down stairs. I don't want to
fall and need help. You know
who would have to take care of me
and "MERCY THAT Ain't" GOOD.
You would probably call Lucy.
You know me I would manage.
We are still having real cold weather. Hope you are doing good
and having warm weather.

The pictures are pretty scary, ha. I was wondering why they called them depends you are so right. Lol. I've been working on the connection to the internet, I was unable to get online for a while here. Take care. Jean

That guy painting on the ladder on its side gave me the willies! Too cute with why they are called Depends. I'm glad you are enjoying your second childhood, but so true we have to be careful with what we do. Kids break their bones, as we all know, they just heal faster I think!

«Louis» used many of these photos in a "Why Men Die First" series at his Friday Funnies a while back. :-)

Those pictures scared me to pieces, Jack. Oh my goodness; what ARE they thinking (or not thinking.)
Enjoy the child in you; I know that you do, and I know that we that know you are blessed by you.
Hugs,
Jackie

I really don't take many chances any more. I'm scared of heights and all those pictures gave me chills..I get dizzy on my step ladder. I've slowed down and may get even slower. Falling is one thing that can land us in bad shape and one of my biggest fears. I try to always hold the railing when I go up and down the stairs and always have my phone in my pocket just in case. Living alone, no one would know for days if I fell. Accidents happen, but I for one am cautious. Take care !

I hate to admit you are right! I think when people tell me I can't do it - I think they think I am old - and I have to prove I am not! lol
