I cannot handle it

 Memorable Automobiles from The Past:

I would love to have this old Austin. They were used a lot in London as Taxis.

For today:

I know you get tired of me referring to my age, but like it or not me and you must admit I am OLD! LOL

I remind Sherry often about storms, earth quakes, murders, car thefts etc, that occurred during our lifetimes. Most we did not know occurred. WE may have heard that here was an earthquake or a hurricane, but it did not affect our lives..

BUT BUT, but now with 24 hour news, weather channel, the internet and other social media (whatever the heck that is) you are bombarded with TERRIBLE news. Some reporter is standing out in 150 mph winds saying, “Please stay inside this is TERRIBLE!” When I hear that I tell Sherry that most boys over 9 years old (inc. many men) want to get out in that wind, because it looks cool.

I know the dude is saying how terrible this is, but he is loving every second of it because he is getting national/international EXPOSURE! After all it is his job!

WE humans cannot handle this ability for spreading conspiracy theories, stories and distorted facts. This whole thing Allows half-truths to be told so many times they are accepted as facts.

Now honestly, my girl read to me that many folks are heading somewhere to see JFK and JFK jr appear. WHAT?? … Now folks, I just might be a believer when JFK stands and says he is running for president soon.

I might even vote for him this time, I didn’t last time and he won without me anyway..... Honestly, I am finding it hard to handle all this information!!

We are free to be sensible or stupid. Hey we can continue to believe non-logical theories all they want, we have that freedom here in the USA. BUT believing a conspiracy theory does not make it REAL nor logical. It also hinders our freedom and a realistic belief in our great country, This is STILL a GREAT Country.

At least one of those charged in the riot of Jan 6th has left the country to live in the Ukraine and Russia. He wants to be FREE again.  Good luck with that. He should give Austria a shot too.

THE INSPIRATION

  Car of the day

This '51 Ford paint job INSPIRED so many designs, it was amazing. Until this most cars were ONE SOLID COLOR  or were called 2-toned, meaning the top was a different color from the lower half., with straight lines.

 Now for Today:

First corrections on the previous post concerning the attorney.... the incident  happened in Hampton County (vs Highland) in the low country of South Carolina.  Thanks for the correction. ;-)  Another of MY MISTAKES LOL

Now today....

There are those special human beings. Ones we cannot put our fingers on it, but they have something in their eye, heart or soul that INSPIRES. Some even seem to have a simple ego. One that doesn’t say LOOK AT ME, it says hey dude YOU CAN accomplish the task. Ever have a teacher like that? One that teaches a boy that poetry isn’t sissified, but it has meaning; that geography and history are IMPORTANT. I knew two.

Being inspired pulls something from your inner self that says, “Yes, I can do better.” OR “WOW, I know I can fix or accomplish thus and so.”

Charisma? That may be it.

Personally I respect someone who can inspire others without SAYING LOUDLY (in actions or words) LOOK WHAT I DID! There are some wonderful men and women who have felt a ‘Divine Call’ on their lives. Fortunately they also had that charismatic personality that goes with it.

Some NEVER get accolades from the world around them. You must respect the men and women like Mother Teresa. She could have lived in wealth, but her giving of herself drew others.

We have humble mega pastors who build large churches and followings. You also have the other side of the coin the person with charisma and an ego bigger than life itself who attain millions of $ from the less fortunate.

I had a brother in law that when WE talked, or HE with anyone else, you had the opinion that YOU or the other person were important, it was NEVER about him and he was VERY SUCCESSFUL.

If you ever ate at Jackson’s Cafeteria when they were alive, you would have met or seen Mr and Mrs Jackson.  They built a solid business the largest in the Gastonia area. Many evenings they went from table to table making their customers welcome.  There was something in their lives that ‘SAID’ this is sincere.

In a world where it is LOOK AT ME, I appreciate that solid person who realizes success depends on OTHERS, seldom in this world does a business man make it on his or her own.  It is a joy to see and meet someone successful who is not FULL of themselves.

Mistakes, errors, how do they happen?

 That Car:

The car that many said was the biggest import mistake

For today:

Have you visited or been to the hospital in the past few years?  You had to notice how many times ID is checked before meds are given, meals are served and BEFORE any procedure.  I spent sometime in the ER last year for a stomach problem. My wrist band was scanned at least a ‘hundred times’ and that was not enough, I had to verbally give my name and date of birth.

I just read that money was spread across a freeway in California, the money ‘fell out’ of an armored truck.

My best friend was told one of his kidneys was cancerous. He was unsure so asked for a second opinion. Another doctor, a friend of his doctor, checked quickly and said, absolutely the kidney must come out.  Once removed and sent off, there was NO cancer.  Did the second Dr. really check, or did he just think his friend could not have mistaken that and agreed?

I also just read that an attorney from the small county of Highland Hampton in SC is being investigated in the deaths of his wife and family. He is also under indictment for stealing $5 million dollars. His is the largest law firm in the county with offices that take up a city block. The firm was turned over to him from generations before.  It seems money wants more money and in the pursuit of the same, TERRIBLE MISTAKES ARE MADE!

(EVER DO THIS?)

If you are a Motorhome driver there are procedures that must be followed before you drive off. So I made a check list which I followed for a while:

1,, Electric unhooked/stored

2.. Sewer/water unhooked/stored

3.. Step in?

4.. TV Antenna DOWN?

5.. Slideouts in?

6.. Loose stuff secure & doors latched?

7.. Leveling Jacks up

Yep, I learned it ALL, I quit reading my list and have broken every rule I made except one, I have never failed to unhook the sewer and water.  However, at an RV park in Key West, I watched someone drive off with ALL connections still intact, what a stinking mess!!! Electric sparks, water squirting into the air and sewerage spread over the 50’ the RV traveled before realizing his mistake. Thank goodness I have never did any serious damage.

                        (ouch!)

I read once that the ‘wrong breast was removed’ during surgery.  I also read where a lady going in for that same surgery took iodine or mercurochrome circled the breast and wrote THIS ONE! (Not a bad idea!)

Yes mistakes are made, even life threatening ones, because we become too familiar and DO NOT FOLLOW instructions.  WE should admire the individuals, nurses and doctors who refuse to get in too big a hurry that they depart from protocol.

Can you imagine businesses that trusted that armored car service?

Addictions and that danged Cigarette

  Car of the day

I think this is an International Truck base. Pic sent by ProtoDeacon Malanowski. The Deacon is an old shipmate, and proof God can do miracles. LOL I don't think 'Ski' ever smoked.... but.....  ;-)

Now for Today:

Today I got my second shot for Covid. While I sat,  I people watched. There was a man on a 3 wheel buggy accompanied by his 12 yr old granddaughter. He handed in his prescription and the druggist said it will be a few minutes.

He rolled back close to me and said to the girl. Let’s go back outside, I need a cigarette. He was also sporting a portable oxygen tank.

There are no requirements for masks in Florida as I know of, but I have been wearing one in crowds. I would wear one anyway in a drugstore or hospital, after all, many folks coming in are SICK, or they would not be there. LOL

I had forgotten mine this time so in a bit I went out to get it and passed the handicap buggy and the guy was enjoying his cigarette with his oxygen.

Up the road, after my shot, I passed the old man and the girl as she walked beside the buggy, of course the man was smoking.

NOW don’t get me wrong, believe me, I am not faulting the man …….

Are you now or were you ever a smoker? Ever Quit smoking?  Remember the old joke from days gone by, “Quitting smoking is easy! Shucks, there are some days I quit 8 or 10 times.”

I smile at overweight folks who look down their noses at smokers. I know there are overweight folks who cannot help it due to health problems, but most of us can. We only need to stop or cut back sweets, starches; whatever is keeping us over weight. Are you addicted to sugar, candy, pies, cakes etc? Just stop it! Yeah you see I know how hard it is to STOP a habit, so I give the guy a break, it is his health. I do hope he smokes mostly out doors and doesn’t affect the kid.

My son says it is easier to get off illegal drugs than stop smoking! He knows because he has done both.

Do I miss the cigarette? You bet and it has been around 30 years. If I could smoke 3 cigarettes a day, I might do it, but I know that is impossible.  It is sorta like the alcoholic who says one beer or drink will be okay! ......If they still had a smoking section in restaurants, I would eat there, just to smell the smoke.. LOL

Can the old man quit?  Sure he can. In my opinion, anyone can, BUT I am here to say, it is like staying on any diet, it's MUCH easier said than DONE.

At times life ain’t fun

 Memorable car of the day:

THAT 1948 Chevy Convertible

For today:

When I was 6 years old, I was in the room when grandma Darnell died. She had 9 men and 3 women around her bed, her children. None could stop that death.

I was there when my brothers and sisters died.  I was there when mama died and then my BIL Jim died.

Sherry’s mama died in my arms, as I tried desperately to keep her alive with CPR.

I was actually there when some took the last breath.  That is such a sad helpless feeling.

Just last night my screen saver brought to mind many friends who are GONE.

My best friend lost his sweet wife. He was the husband of Sherry’s sister Colette. Colette was a beautiful Christian lady. I remember the exact spot on the road while I was driving when Sonny said to me, “I know you think I am a terrible Christian, and I know you and everyone tells me she is in a better place, I believe it, but I don’t care, “I want her back!!”

Colette, Sonny and Sherry in Yosemite, he and I loved our girls who were sisters. They were the best of traveling companions.

We talked and I told him that me, nor especially God, would hold that against him. We are human.  We talked a lot, because we were the BEST of friends. Today, many years after his death, his name comes up at least once a day.

NO! I am not mad, upset nor frustrated, I am real. I miss Sonny, not as much as he missed his wife I am sure, BUT I miss him every day.

Today I am thinking of those who have gone over, those who have seen heaven and our Lord before me. I am not a bit envious of that……. And to tell the truth, many of them I would love to see back here with me, probably some kind of jealous love. ;-)

BUT THERE ARE/WERE FUN THINGS……  And yes, I remember them… I could kiss my girl for miles as she lay on the front seat across my lap facing me as I drove that straight drive ’48 Chevy. Traffic was much lighter then. LOL

She was one of them ’Good girls’ but once I did get her bra undone (with one hand!), but never got a handle on things. All she said was ‘hook it back’. Then she kissed me again.

Once after we were married and curb service was still popular. We ordered and ate. Then she would not leave me alone, we loved to smooch. The curb hop came out, apologized and said, the boss said knock it off.  WE really laughed and laughed, after all we were married. She has always been a hot mama!

So yep, I think of the fun things too.

My fault, ants in the house!

Memorable car of the day:

MY girl pregnant with Jack Jr. in front of our '53 Plymouth. Note the window fan in neighbor's house, remember them? Neighbors '56 Buick in back ground.

You know you are home in Florida when you see a covey (herd, bunch, group) of white Ibis wander across your yard pecking. Note the bush it is now trimmed back 2 feet.

Now today's stuff:

First, thanks for all the very good comments on our ‘grand situation’. I truly mean that. It means a lot.

Lisa (away from the office chair), said hibiscus was her dad’s favorite, but he calls them ‘Hibiscuits’. Sherry and I got a kick out of that, once we had the twins with us as kids and Sherry showed them the Hibiscus, they both called them hibiscuits, that has stuck with us over the years.

Okay, I was so proud of me for saving the beautiful flowered Hibiscus, I did not notice they also had ants visiting at the time I cut them. I brought the flowers in to let Sherry enjoy them. Before long she caught it before they got out of hand and I put them out on the patio, they are still beautiful. LOL But we will enjoy them from afar.

From yesterday’s work:

This shrub out back was above the roof and over to the coach.

I have no idea what this bush, tree was but it was twelve feet high.

Below is one of the Hibiscus Plants. below. Note the bush at the corner. It is a beautiful poinsettia, but not red yet. I didn't mess with it.

Next is the last Hibiscus.

Above is the results, tied into 4 foot bundles as required by the city of Leesburg for pickup.
Our trailer and coach in Leesburg.

Above is our orange tree, it is loaded this year. Below is the lemon tree also loaded.  The Grapefruit (not shown) not doing so well this year.

Sorry for the over load of photos, but I had to 'splain the work involved in leaving a house for 6 months at a time. LOL

Meandering

Memorable car of the day:

Mark (left) and Jack Jr (Right) on the hood of our

1960 RAmbler. Photo compliments of Friend Retha via Friend Glenda down in Choobe, FL

 For today:

I remember that word from English class many years ago. My thoughts lately have been doing just that, meandering.

Well the coach is unstuck and all hook ups in place, water, electric and Sewer.

Our bushes and trees were going wild so I had to take time to trim several away back, cut the remains into 4’ bundles to place by the road for future pick up.

The two big Hibiscus bushes were in full bloom.

I made two vases of a few of them for my love. I could not put them all by the road.

Haven’t heard from son Mark about his inspection today. Hope it went well.

The grandson says, "I am a girl Grandpa! What do you say?"

 Memorable car of the day:

        1941 Graham auto

For today:

I have said a lot over the years here in bloggersville. Now I ask you, “How would you approach it, if you had a son, grandson or great grandson who tells you, “I am not a boy, grandpa, I am a girl.  I am no longer Stanley I am now Susan. I was never supposed to be Stanley.”

“BUT honey, I have always loved Stanley!”

Looking back. I remember when ‘Aids’ first came to the forefront. I read, “Within 2 years you will know someone who died of Aids!”  I did.

Then came Covid, it was unnatural, but I knew one of the first people who died of Covid, he was a first cousin.  Now we know at least 6 people who have died of this terrible disease.

Then comes one of the latest ‘Headline’ subjects. More and more people, even children, who are sure God or nature made a mistake and gave them the wrong plumbing when they were born. Now is when the rubber meets the road. What do you do when a child you love, who is dear to you, all of a sudden announces, “Grandpa, I am not a boy (or girl) I am really a girl (or boy)!”

Tell me how you would handle it! Friend it is going to happen, believe me.

Life throws some curves my friends, we must be ready to catch or dodge them, no matter how wild they are.
