Say what?

 Today’s automobile:

2000 Taurus   Ford sold a bunch of these, I hear they were good cars.

 Some thoughts for today:

My dad was a self-educated son of a sharecropper. I am sure many of the things he told me were learned late at night.

He told me a lot of things, and actually gave some words he called ‘Common Sense’.  I seldom say anything original, I wish I could, but I remember this and all ways will, “Son, keep your words soft and sweet, because there are times you will have to eat them.”  That is probably not original but it meant something to him.

Then this one that has always come to mind when I hear someone attacking another personality, “If you have to pull someone DOWN, you are not so tall yourself.”

He was strong about ministers espousing their political party and opinions. My dad voted but I never knew what party he voted for.  He would caution young ministers, Keep your political beliefs to yourself, you will pastor all sorts of political beliefs and parties.

I admire people who are witty and can come up with some neat ‘retorts.’

Any particular quote that sticks with you?

I love quotes and most of them have some wise words of wisdom to them. Just like an apple a day will keep the doctor away. Some are simple some profound but these people are quoted due to the fact they had something to say that is worth repeating. Self made men like your dad learned the hard way, others had it easier. Good thing you listened to your dad.

My father was 18 years older than my mother. He was a soft spoken, kind man. My favorite saying of his was: Better an old man's darling than a young man's slave! Still makes me smile!

My son is quick to coin a phrase. Unfortunately, the only one I can think of right now is his cautionary, 'Embrace the chaos.'. I need to start writing this stuff down. My 'rememberer' isn't as good as it used to be.

I use to tell son when he was younger and leaving the house "be careful out there, it's a jungle out there." Not super wise words but a good reminder to watch himself and take care of himself.

Always good though to watch what we say. Words cannot be taken back once said.

Very well said. Our parents were similar but my dad was a harsh man much of the time, altho he often had good advice. I don't talk much about the part of our lives.

I love to read quotes. They make ya think. I also like to find quotes from the book of Proverbs.
I have owned two Ford Taurus . They both were great cars. I since moved on to a small SUV. I hope to purchase a Ford Bronco this year but Nick thinks I must wait until next year. We are a Ford family.
