President Leslie King Jr. President of the USA, remember?

I have noticed in my life I have mostly looked for the positive. Not always of course, because I have done my share of bitching and moaning. I have tried to live so as to not blame others for MY mistakes. One of my biggest complaints about our government, is it has seemly taken on that attitude. If we can blame someone, then that corrects the situation. But blame doesn’t FIX anything. Every president we have had in my adult life time has had opposition. THE SKY IS FALLING DOWN syndrome. Seldom has the fears been realized.
I remember Roosevelt’s death. I Remember Truman mostly as a teenager.I haven’t noticed a big difference,no matter what party is in power. WE always gripe if it is not ours. But, every president in my life time has done something notable, something good, here are the ones I remember:

Eisenhower, Republican. Democrats said he would ruin the country, head a military government.
BUT we did get:
1. The interstate road system.
2. A cease fire in Korea.
3. An increase in the Social Security Program.
John F. Kennedy, Democrat. MANY said he would be ruled by the Vatican. Republicans said he was a spoiled rich kid who wanted to play in the White house.
But the USA did:
1. Head for the moon at His promise and dream.
2. Keep missiles from Cuba that could have destroyed the USA
3. Enjoy a very good economy.

Johnson, a Democrat. The Republicans said he would rule like a dictator since he dominated congress for so many years.
But we citizens got:
1. An 11 Billion dollar tax cut
2. A bill providing free medical care (Medicare) to the aged under Social Security was enacted.
3. Medicaid was founded and federal aid to education at all levels was greatly expanded.

Richard Nixon, Republican. Again the Democrats screamed he would kill SS, Medicare and Medicaid and reinstate segregation.
However :
1. He ended the war in Vietnam
2. Set about Détente
3. Got a Ballistic Missile treaty with the USSR and opened China.During his administration we landed on the moon, to fulfill Kennedys promise.

Leslie King Jr, Republican. He followed Nixon . SOOOOO something new to you huh? You didn’t know King was president? Yep, Gerald Ford was born Leslie King Jr., his name was changed to his Step fathers name. Democrats said he was a puppet, a care taker.
1. He swallowed hard, made a tough decision. He pardoned Nixon and took months of heat for the hard decision. I think he was the only president to be called before a congressional committee to explain his actions. It was the right decision. It saved the country millions of dollars and many months of embarrassing press worldwide. Senator Ted Kennedy said that he had initially been opposed to the pardon of Nixon, but admitted that history had proved Ford to have made the correct decision.
2. Ford signed the Helsinki Accords, marking a move toward détente in the Cold War.

***********
Sorry to be so long, thanks for coming by the Log. And yes, I know very well that each president made mistakes, he had his own problems, but I am here to say HE DID NOT AND COULD NOT DESTROY THIS COUNTRY, The United States is a great country, WE the people will not allow it to be destroyed, will we? NO!
Just my opinion.

We win a few and loose some. I was not old enough to vote but I did campaigned for Ike.
A very good educational entry. I didn't know
that about Ford.

SAM HAD HIS NAP AND WILL TRY AGAIN.
I THANKED YOU FOR A FINE ENTRY AND COMMENDED THE OPTIMISTIC ATTITUDE.

THE GENERATION I WAS BORN INTO WAS PROGRESSING FROM THE HORSE AND BUGGY DAYS. TELEPHONES PERMENANTLY ATTACHED TO A WALL. A FEW RADIOS WITH LOTS OF STATIC.

A GENERATION LATER AMBITIONS FOR TELEVISION, CREATING RADAR, (which incidentally detected the jap navy approaching pearl harbor. research on keyword RADAR DURING PEARL HARBOR). A SAILOR PRACTICING WITH RADAR REPORTED TO AN OFFICER THAT OBJECTS WERE ON THE RADAR SCREEN.
RADAR WAS IN IT'S INFANCY.

FOURTEEN MILLION OF WE MILITARY PEOPLE SERVED DURING WORLD WAR TWO. FOR THE 'DURATION'

THEN CAME COMPUTERS AND CELL PHONES. HOW DID WE EVER GET ALONG WITHOUT THEM ?
BILL GATES YOU ARE A GREAT AMERICAN. CAN'T DO A GOOD JOB SHOPPING WITHOUT A CELL PHONE, TELLING THE SPOUSE OR MOTHER IN LAW WHAT IS BEING OBSERVED AND RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS.

YES, LET'S STAY OPTIMISTIC. GOOD TIMES ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER. A CHICKEN IN EVERY POT.

KEEP FAITH IN GOD. DUST OFF THE BIBLE AND READ MATHEW 1 VERSE 37. sam

I learn a lot coming to your blog...I didn't know that about Ford either. I know one thing, President is not a job I would ever want. But you are right, they all come with good and bad. And quoting Forrest Gump...that's all I'm gonna say about that...ha. Take care, Sheila

Thank you for the lesson on Presidents and what they did for the country. One thing bothered me you said you were a teenager when Truman was in office. I was 18 and newly married and my new hubby made me go vote, so at random I picked Harry Truman. Joe and you both were to young to even think about voting. Now I feel ancient. lol

didn't know that about Ford's name change. I agree with the comment that I would not want to be president either. just always good reminders to pray for our leaders because of the overwhelming job they have
