Off the mountains, tail between my legs!

The top view is from the summit of Springer mountain.

That is icicles in the background. For 3 days the temperature never got above freezing.

I could get no sleep at night my sleeping bag did not hold warmth.  My gloves did not one bit of good, were supposed to be sub freezing rated. OUCH

I hate to admit it, but I bit off more than I could chew. I will try to explain some of my mistakes and missteps next.

I just noticed my blog entry was in the title area but not all.  I am a mess!

You still doing more than I can do. I cant even go around the block if temperatures are lower than my age.
I have to admit, I was getting worried for you due to the cold weather. I was only a couple hours away from sending Sherry a message to get an update.
Maybe you can try it again in the Spring or Fall. Freezing temperatures are not safe for anyone. Thats why you never see cavemen any more. Hahaha.

Looking forward to a good story.
Stay safe.

I cannot imagine sleep in cold like that with freezing conditions. My body freezes up when I get cold. Take care you don't get hypothermic. I routing you through it all !

I'm glad you're home safe and warm but this was absolutely no failed attempt. It was a brave thing that I bet most of us here wouldn't be able to do or even attempt to do! Good for you for giving it a go! Perhaps in the summer you and Sherry could pick an area and just enjoy the scenery and a shorter hike. Anyways, you rock Jack! I wish I could be there to slap you on the back with a big "Ata boy!" Here's a quote I like: "There's no growth in comfort and no comfort in growth"...Life's about doing hard things and learning and I hope at your young age of 84..or is it 85? I'm growing by doing hard things!

I this first -- then your other post and was totally bewildered ("Where IS Jack?"). This morning it's all starting to make sense. I think.
Still holding you in my prayers!

I am proud of you, Sir. You are a hero. You did more than any of us would even try to do, or dream of doing ... not just on this walk, but throughout your life. You are an example to us all. Remember this; you are more important than a mountain, or a series of mountains, or a trail or a series of walks. You are loved by many - family and friends. You stopped the walk. That is not tail between the legs. I call this good sense. You are a gift to others; many others; and you chose to preserve that precious gift for all of us. Thank you.

Praying for you. God bless always.

Oh ... I forgot to mention. I've just had a drink in your honour. I'd better have another one!
