Father’s day

Since my two sons have children we had a three + one, father’s Day.  The +1 being Brandon the father of the latest Great Grand daughter. I am always shocked at the Restaurants, even high end ones, that are packed. With the economy in the ditch, how can so many of us eat out?

Fathers day 2012 027

Youngest son Mark, with Luke, Sherece, Stella and the proud Father of Stella, Brandon McGee. We were missing Matt Dillon from this group, He has taken a job in the Maryland –DC area for the summer.

We first went to Sage Brush, they could not guarantee us seats. Off to out back, a 2 hr wait. I suggested Jack Jr. Call the Wood Shed (One of the top places in this area). they could seat us in 15 minutes, we arrived in 15 minutes walked right to our table.

First Born, jack Jr. below is Stephen and Joshua who were there, he is missing Ben and Corey who are living in Utah!

Fathers day 2012 007

Fabulous time, quiet atmosphere and great food. A fresh salad bar and the first steaks we have had in months. I WAS DISAPPOINTED however, since the last time we went they have dropped their signature salad sandwich. For years they have had marinated tomato and onions on toast. It might not sound great, but it was. I didn’t fuss, the salad was very good.

Fathers day 2012 016

Of course my #1 lady was there, sitting with Luke Vegas.

Fathers day 2012 018

Last but definitely not the least in importance Ny girl, and Stephen’s Squeeze, Jennifer, all lovely and full of life. With a wonderful disarming smile!

The Wood Shed in in Stanley, NC. Inside they have a large model train that continues to circle inside the restaurant. I had a great Father's day. My sons and Brandon did also.  Stella was there, of course the center of attraction.  Sherry is so silly over the little beauty. LOL

Happy Father’s day to all the Fathers out there.

(We always loved this picture of Sherry’s mom looking up at her handsome husband)

Sherry’s dad was Wiley Aaron Harris. A handsomely striking man. he was a good father, he loved and supported his family.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, Wiley went to work in the cotton mill before his 10th birthday, and worked in textiles until he retired. His daughters doted over him, and spoiled him rotten in his senior years. He was able to live alone until his passing, out living Sherry’s mom by many years.

That man knew he was loved, it seemed every Wednesday was father’s day for him. Colette would clean his house and take him grocery shopping. Lennie would fix dinner for him and the rest of the family. For a long time Sherry had a part time job and was always there too.

(He visited us for a few weeks in Key West)

Every Summer the girls would take him to the beach for a week.

The boys loved him of course, but those girls were something else.  Wiley never owned a car nor drove during the time I knew him. He walked to and from work.

Thanks for coming by the log.

My generation loves to eat and I'm sure we keep the restaurants packed. You KNOW WE DO OUR share! lol Looks like a fun time for all. Nice folk. Nice smiles.

Happy Father's day to you all. Hope you have a great one!

I'm gone to PA tomorrow..flying into Pittsburg and then a 1.5 hour drive to the middle of no where. But after LA I can go for that. lol

I am with you - here in GA every one goes out to eat all the time! And I wonder how we can be in a recession myself, but we are.

Happy Father's day to your father's - you - and your son's. I hope you have a great day and it was good to hear about everyone's father.

Looks like you all had a great time! Glad you thought of that restaurant to go to, Jack. I am with you; I don't know how people can afford to eat out nowadays but Friday and Saturday nights a lot of the popular places are packed here too! Great looking family you have; I can see why Sherry would dote on Stella, what a cutie!

Enjoyed reading about Sherry's dad too; that is almost unheard of to not have ever driven or owned a car!

Have a great Father's Day Jack!

I'm glad so many of you could get together for your Fathers Day celebration. I got to spend the day with 3 of my sons and their families. We've all had a week of eating out for the most part with DS#4 and his family visiting us but this morning my oldest made pancakes and bacon for us all. I'm home now and all is quiet once more. It was a great Fathers' Day for us and a great visit too.

Life as it can, as it should be.

And yes, we now eat mostly at home together with family, which is many times much nicer as well. Please have a good new week ahead.

Rose is a great resource for you. You post some rarely seen cars, this Kaiser being an example.

The Kaisers were powered by a 6 cylinder engine built by Continental. Something that hurt the sales of the Kaiser cars is the engine was always underpowered. They tried to fix this later by supercharging the six on the Manhattan models in the early to mid-50s. Too little. Too late. The V8 craze had begun and Henry J. Kaiser never gave his car operations the capital they needed to be truly competitive.

Jack the group looks good. Josh
is so handsome I know Steve is a
performer but he should look at
Josh and see how handsome he is and
want to show his face also, after
all they are twins. Stella looks
so sweet and has no idea it is Father's day just happy to have her picture made. Everybody looks
happy. Hope you had a good Father's DAY.

I am thankful for all those who don't tear their children in half. Their are good fathers and mothers without successful marriages.

So glad you had a GOOD FATHERS DAY. Loved the pictures. Since Spunky is our only kid left at home he had me wish dad a Happy fathers day. He was good all day. That was a gift in itself. My brother in law had a Kaiser. He thought he was the cat's meow.
