Land For sale

We have been holding onto about 3 acres of wooded land in town. Thinking one day we might settle down and build a retirement home on it. After giving it some logical thought, we decided “We ain’t gonna build”. So Sunday afternoon, I put it on Craigslist for sale. by 10PM I had two inquiries. that was fast, maybe I listed it too low? Hahahahaha that always comes to mind when selling.

It is nice wooded land. But we honestly do not need it. I have about emptied the storage trailer, and by my estimation I was wrong when I had Sticky clear a spot and move it, I guessed it was on our property, it was not it is on our son Mark. We are giving him the trailer anyway, so that is no big deal.

Of course I have not told our neighbor (Son Mark) that we are thinking of selling, maybe I will tell him tomorrow.

As a builder, There is always a little disappointment in selling land, I was always looking to buy land. I have never sold land.  It is a mental thing that says,”Mister, you are through, you are not going to build anything else.” Then I tell myself, that is reality, live with it.

I have filing cabinets to move from the trailer. I hate to think of what is in them. Records of all the houses I have built. The subdivision plans, dreams that did not come to fruition. There is my office desk I need to move, where I spent many happy hours sitting in my office dreaming and planning.

Ever heard of a ‘Leroy Lettering Set’? I am selling mine in the yard sale. An amazing desk tool, I used it many times, now it is done with the touch of a keyboard. Today I ran across my High School GED from 1956, and my College Level GED from 1960, has it been that long?

Yes, it is time to hang it up. Sell the land. It would be nice to divide the money between the grand kids. I would rather see them enjoy it before we die.

Thanks for coming this way.

PS:

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but its getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

When you say wooded land I think of Colorado, now. I realize it is not the same but that is just so overwhelming to see on TV. I bet you do have mixed feelings about not building any more. There comes a time when age, wear and tare on the body just in the course of every day life, makes you stop and think. I know I will never do many things I have in the past. Our problem is living within our very small retirement income. Especially with added bills since my surgery. But we will make it as we always have.

We are at the age we better just
enjoy life and spend money.
Don't give the money away just, spend, spend, spend like you tell me. The kids will spend it in a week and be back without money. Better hold on to extra since prices keep going up. They will need it when they get our age. HEE HEE

You are thinking there I can feel it! Reminiscing too. Hope you sell that piece of land really quick. Sandie

Wise idea to sell the land, Jack and Sherry. Someone else can envision whatever they dream for it and if you decide to give it to the grands, they will always be appreciative of the legacy you gave them. LOL with the file cabinet; I'm sure there will be lots of "gems" for you to sort through when you get to it; lots of memories there but good you'll be doing it now rather than someone doing it years down the road when they are dealing with cleaning out things, etc. That becomes a nightmare :)

THREE wooded acres sounds like heaven to me. I would build a dream house, for sure. But you have to do what is in your heart. I would not give the grandchildren all the money, either. I would give them a share but save the rest. You never know what is down the road. You and Sherry might need it. GOOD LUCK with the sale. Take care.

That must have been a hard decision to make. I hope you get a fair price for it. I love to give things to my grandchildren, but don't have a chunk of land to sell here like you do. When I think about what my house would sell for and how many grandchildren I have they'd probably have a nice dinner out on grand'ma'...well maybe a little more, but dividing it up would leave little for anyone. It's not what we give them in money anyway that counts.

My vote is for giving from a warm hand, like you said. Good luck with your sale.

I would love to live in the mountains but alas that could never be. If you two sell the land I hope it sells quickly. I like that old truck. I have never seen one like it.
