Today Home is the valley at Green Mountain

Not a long drive, but a very pretty drive thru Gaston and Lincoln and into Caldwell County. We stopped for a hose connection on the way up and Sherry bought a pie, Ms Edwards had just baked a turtle pie and froze it (ha).  We landed and had a piece of pie and coffee by a small brook running down the valley. Here is home for a few days!

The creek is just to my left running under the road:

On the road, even though it was a short trip, we talk of where we have been and where we want to go.

Like most boys  born in the thirties, I always loved cowboy stories. I could dream of riding for the Pony Express

I really enjoyed St. Joe, Missouri and the Pony Express Museum. The Museum is located in the old Pony stables.

If you are one of the three sister bloggers from Wisconsin you will recognize one of the toughest ladies around, and very sweet. We are standing by a river boat engineered and built by her husband, before he departed this world.

053

What a wonderful world in Wisconsin, amazing hardy folk up there. I started reading ‘Up North with Mel’ long before I commented there, as time passed, I just fall in love with her.

Some of Slim’s traps:

008

That is me on the right, Slim on the left.(yeah, you read it right!)

.:007

Slim belongs to Mel, he even admits it!

034

I met Bill, wow, we went out to the deep woods (for us) on a wooded forty, by a creek and found their hideaway. (Oh yeah, bill belongs to Dar).

037a

Here is Dar and one of the Grand loves, this one is Sy, I fell in love with him right away, he dubbed me Magic Jack.

036a

Haven’t met Cher of Cher-shots yet, but she is the other sister of the of the triangle of sisters.  Everyone of these ‘girls’ can put some vittles together and show them to make us all hungry.

If the internet has done nothing else, we have been drawn to some wonders of nature and wonderful folk that we NEVER would have met. A few short days in Park Falls will always hold special memories. Brandy the golden retriever who is getting old. Pelts from the trapping, a real coon skin cap, and a mounted Bear.  Breakfast at Jack’s corner Bar and dinner with Dar and Bill. (Bill’s tractor and trailers and a giant welder.)

Hey, these folk know every tree, bush, bird and bug in the woods!

Everyone had wood stored up for the next winter.

And Yes, we would love to retrace our steps sometime. The blogs keep the memories alive. Our screen saver is our 36000+ photo’s that randomly cycle thru.

But back to now, time to relax and do some kissing, smooching, reminiscing and PLANNING, since we are not even spending a night in our ‘new to us’ house.

Thanks for coming with us to the mountains.

PS:

While driving in Pennsylvania, we caught up to an Amish carriage. The owner of the carriage obviously had a sense of humor, because attached to the back of the carriage was a hand printed sign... "Energy efficient vehicle: Runs on oats and grass. Caution: Do Not step in exhaust."

I'm sitting inside my camper this evening. No campfire as we are having thunderstorms and lots of rain. I guess it's to be that way some of tomorrow too. Sure do miss the fire. I'm not getting here much so far this summer so even in the rain I'm glad I got here. Enjoy that pie. Turtle anything is my favorite. Pecans and carmel along with some chocolate can't be beat. We camp in Amish country here in Ohio and that sign is very very true...lots of exhaust on the roads.

Dang, I just lost my comment...let's try this again...soooo as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted,
Pie, coffee, cute company, a babbling brooke, what more could a man ask for? You have it made Jack.
It was very sweet of you to mention us northerners again. I will tell Mom her pic is up with you. She will get a kick out of it. She sure loves that river boat that Daddy built.
Sneaky of you to get us all in there, fella. I forgive ya. Sy just came across his magic scarf you gave him and he was showing it off, to his little brother Ben and telling him he got it from Magic Jack...sweet memories.
Have a wonderful vacation, you even have a deck. Awesome!

Haven't lurked in a while. Love this post...I am originally from the UP, eh until parents moved to central Wis. when I was 3. Glad to hear that you like the Wis. people as well, at least the down to earth sane ones, that is.....
Have a great time in the MTNS. of NC....down here in the Triad it isn't as beautiful....Every time we go to the MTNS. it is storming and very windy...much like pre-hurricane weather where we lived in Pensacola, Fl.
Sorry for rambling...Just loved reading your blog.

What a great post. You Jack look so contented. Itchy feet may quite itching some day when you are ancient like me. Just keep going as long as you can.
