Disappointments and Ships

CRUISE FOR 7 days 073 - ForbookcoverA

(The Carnival ship Triumph)

Mev over at http://mevely317.blogspot.com/ had a good entry concerning the stranded Cruise ship. It caused me to think. As she said there were Kudos for the crew during the at-sea problem. Those crews are fantastic for the  amount of work required of them.

This is part of the crew in the dining room singing and dancing as they served. This was on the Carnival Legend.

AND as usually happens, the complaints are always heard first and loudest.  I would bet that most passengers took it in stride.  Honestly folks, mechanical stuff fails, the best of mechanics is not  miracle worker nor psychic, so things do go wrong.  Accidents happen and ruin folks days, sometimes their lives. Mechanical trouble on your car, that has started and ran for years perfectly, might just happen one day.

I hate this happened.  I wouldn’t have liked it if we had  been there, but as long as we weren’t sinking I am sure I would have taken it is stride.  I am sure the majority of the passengers and crew did.

CRUISE FOR 7 days 331

WE have been on 3 cruises, two were with Carnival, we enjoyed them. Our agreement with Carnival Cruise lines has 3-4 pages of disclaimers.  These were scanned over by all us passengers. Who reads all that fine print anyway, nothing is going to happen? The cruise line does it to cover themselves incase something like this happens, that is only common sense for them.

Would we sail with Carnival again? Sure, if the price was right.

NOW, want to know a coincidence? The tentative cover of my new book features the Triumph.

I put this together a few weeks ago. This shot happened on our last cruise. A nice lady took this of Sherry and I as the Triumph was coming into port with us.

Do you see any down side with leaving it as is?

Thanks for coming by the log.

PS:

Smile, enjoy this life, you are only going to be here once! T’would be a pity to waste it as a sour puss.

Yes, the one on the left is a real vehicle, and it does run, but what would you feel like if you met it?  Wonder how it is steered, leaning?

You're so right about the squeaky wheels getting all the grease (attention), Jack!
At my workplace, our pool had to be shut down a couple of weeks ago for unexpected repairs and you'd have thought by all the complaints that we'd conspired to RUIN our guests holidays. (Never mind that the avg. highs hovered in the 50's-60's).

Having met Tom only 10 years ago, I can't wait to read your new book!

I love your book cover - and I would go on a cruise again. I do think they might have been a little better compensated. They had to take a bus ride for seven hours to catch a plane. I would think they wanted to get home asap!

I'm not sure how long people will remember that it was the Triumph that had the problem...but possibly some will. The main concern voiced was the one of sewage everywhere...so, it might give you pause to use the Triumph's name on your cover. It's your book and your book cover, so you have the ultimate say on it. But, since you asked, I assume that you want an honest answer...without hedging. I would probably do something in Photoshop with the name of the cruise liner...
Hugs,
Jackie

Like the cover, but you might want to consider Jackie's suggestion.

I'd keep the cover as it is. I think people will forget about the cruise ship by the time the book comes out; some other story will take "center stage" and people won't make the connection. I do think the workers on cruise ships do work hard indeed! I think it takes a special person to want to have that kind of employment; not sure I could or would want to do it!

You are right. Like everything else in life, things are going to happen. You were fortunate that you have enjoyed 3 wonderful cruises without mishap. Lots of others have too. I like the book cover. It's a cold 10 degrees here this morning, but It's supposed to warm up a bit later.

You know me I am not into cruises
so I don't have an opinion. Do
what you want to do and I'm sure it
will be alright. The photo speaks
thoughtful looking and thinking
how wonderful to be on that Ship.
