‘Wild Thang’

 A favorite car

Now:
The third time now. Since we never saw any kittens, we figure some animal took them again. She made trips to eat, then headed back to the unknown to her kitties we guessed. Then after that time she stayed away too long and we KNEW something was WRONG. Stormy did not mope too long this time, went on with life. She has been a lesson in the wild/tame world to me.

The other day she actually jumped up on the little table on the front porch and after a few minutes actually walked onto my lap and lay down. She stayed there for a few minutes and allowed me to pet her while there. Also I can hear her purring, for a long time I didn’t think she purred. She relaxed just like I remember my cat back in 1943. She actually felt like a house-cat for a few minutes.

She still has the wild, survival part inside. If I am standing and she is near I will walk toward her and she will shy away. I will reach down sometimes and she will run a few steps out of my reach.
She will rub up against my leg.

Then I think, she is a wild thing. Our neighbor remembers her mother, another feral. She has survival instincts that tell her that a human, dog, hawk, raccoon and other big animals can hurt you. She will let down that guard for a few minutes, but not for long.

It is seldom, but for a couple days I thought maybe something untoward had happened to her, but ‘The Cat Came Back’. Sherry and I sang that song to her.
The Cat came back, the cat came back,
Thought she was a goner, but the cat came back
Cause she couldn’t stay away!

I am hoping that she will finally come to you and stay. She looks like she is in pretty good health - right?

That's good she came back because like I said before, I think we all have warmed up to Stormy and we don't want anything to happen to her!

Awwww, feel good! I wonder if your next book shouldn't be, "Stormy 'N Me"?

she rubbed against your leg! That is so sweet.

Garrison Keillor wrote something about The cat came home? Does that sound familiar?
