This Covid 19 Pandemic

  Memorable Automobiles from The Past:

This is a 1935 Buick, I bet that sucker cost $1800 new!

Wednesday’s stuff:

This period (Pandemic) is confusing to me. I mentioned weeks ago that my parents were teenagers in 1918. Looking back I am amazed that I didn’t hear one word about the huge problems of 1918. Maybe because WWII was from 1914 to the end of 1918, and in relation the war, 1918 pandemic was not important to farm kids.

Since both my parents were from rural Georgia I am sure they were affected more by war (kin drafted) than a virus. Since the radio was the major source of news and not everyone had a radio, National news did not dominate their world.

Mom & dad in the early 1940s She had given birth to 7 (2 that are away in WWII) by now, no longer a p-nut farmer, but now lived in a town of less than 5000.

I use that relationship to ourselves. Although we are in a crowded world, Sherry & I are not crowded as we sit here in the motor home. When we go outside, we step out into the fresh air of our country.  Millions of people do not do that. They step into a hallway used by many neighbors. Stairwells or elevators that put them shoulder to shoulder contact with possible carriers. That is not us NOR our families or closest friends. Most of the folks we associate with are single home residents, so it is unfair for us to judge the effect of this stinking Virus on them.

So I am trying to put things in perspective, I do not see this PANDEMIC in the same light as a person in public housing or even a person in the penthouse of a super high rise. Unless the penthouse has its personal elevator or a helo-port on the roof, they will encounter more people in a day than we will in a month (i.e. TV program The Jeffersons)

It has been a long time since we were poor, so it is tough to really remember how tough it really was. I smile when I think that at one time we NEEDED $60. I went to the bank and borrowed $60 for 6 months to get an engine fixed. I can smile at that now. I have to realize there are people jammed together and are in the same boat I was.

So I will try to do my part, wear a mask, keep a distance, even if my mind says, ‘you don’t have to do that.’

To use an old quote, “This too shall pass!”

BE safe, hang in there, one day it will be safe to be out and about.

Wow. I was just musing (to myself) yesterday that I never heard mention of the Spanish Flu from my parents or grandparents. Dad and mother would have been 6 and 3. Maybe too young to be affected, yet it had to have been weighing on minds of their parents.
My BF and I were on the phone 2 hours yesterday. Most of that time was spent "What iff-ing" this and that about Covid ..... who knows what about what. Almost makes me imagine God up there shaking his head.

Doing the best I know how ...
Love y'all!

This is so well said, Jack. My grandparents were teens in WW1; G-Pa survived that, and G-Ma helped the local doctor. Both were at a time and in a place where their lives could have been taken.

I gave a friend a ride from the store. Turning right instead of left, that made all the difference.

We were talking about the Spanish Flu a few weeks back and I mentioned that no one in my mom's family must have had it or gotten really sick with it or she would have mentioned it. She was born in 1921 after it of course but I'm sure she would have heard stories about it. I did some reading about it and masks were encouraged then too with Boy Scouts going out and giving tickets/citations to those not wearing one. This too will pass and I'm sure we'll learn lessons from it that hopefully people will write down and remember for the next pandemic (which probably none of us commenting here will be alive during)

In 1918 there was no social media, TV, or other methods other than a newspaper that would constantly remind everyone all day about the Spanish flu. However, it was devastating but living in remote areas was probably something that saved many folks. My Dad was born in 1920 but I never heard my Grandmother talking about that flu and they all lived in Chicago in apartments with lots of others. We've been through the bird flu, H1N1, SARS,and of course HIV and other scary viruses along the way. Covid will pass slowly once a vaccine is administered. I think the world will be different from this..hopefully for the better. You've seen much in your life and are still experiencing much! Stay safe, wear those masks and get vaccinated when available. Take care you two crazy kids!

my grandmother and grandfather almost died back in 1918 from that deadly flu. so regarding Covid i'd rather be safe than sorry. my younger daughter contracted it. she's a long hauler and has been deadly sick for quite a while. at her worst we were talking about funeral planning. covid is nothing to ignore. it's a killer.

Fresh air is what we all need. This is how we feel when we go to the beach. We are in our own little camper and lots of distance between people.

Catching up
