Memorable Automobiles from The Past:
This period (Pandemic) is confusing to me. I mentioned weeks ago that my parents were teenagers in 1918. Looking back I am amazed that I didn’t hear one word about the huge problems of 1918. Maybe because WWII was from 1914 to the end of 1918, and in relation the war, 1918 pandemic was not important to farm kids.
Since both my parents were from rural Georgia I am sure they were affected more by war (kin drafted) than a virus. Since the radio was the major source of news and not everyone had a radio, National news did not dominate their world.
I use that relationship to ourselves. Although we are in a crowded world, Sherry & I are not crowded as we sit here in the motor home. When we go outside, we step out into the fresh air of our country. Millions of people do not do that. They step into a hallway used by many neighbors. Stairwells or elevators that put them shoulder to shoulder contact with possible carriers. That is not us NOR our families or closest friends. Most of the folks we associate with are single home residents, so it is unfair for us to judge the effect of this stinking Virus on them.
So I am trying to put things in perspective, I do not see this PANDEMIC in the same light as a person in public housing or even a person in the penthouse of a super high rise. Unless the penthouse has its personal elevator or a helo-port on the roof, they will encounter more people in a day than we will in a month (i.e. TV program The Jeffersons)
It has been a long time since we were poor, so it is tough to really remember how tough it really was. I smile when I think that at one time we NEEDED $60. I went to the bank and borrowed $60 for 6 months to get an engine fixed. I can smile at that now. I have to realize there are people jammed together and are in the same boat I was.
So I will try to do my part, wear a mask, keep a distance, even if my mind says, ‘you don’t have to do that.’
To use an old quote, “This too shall pass!”
BE safe, hang in there, one day it will be safe to be out and about.
