Fame and Love

 Memorable car of the day:

In Death, this old Merc has a great view!

For today:

I never met Mr/Mrs Fame, neither did my immediate family. Sherry has a nephew, Butch, who was with Pro Baseball for a few years.  I had a brother who was famous locally and built a fleet of huge model ships. My brother Jr. was famous to me, he was a gunner on a Destroyer Escort in the South Pacific, I was sure he won the war.

Sherry’s brother Lefty fought there too as a Marine.  He took part in the landing on Iwo Jima and lived to return home, never talked much about it. Brother Vernon, nephews Rick & Ted were decorated Heroes of Vietnam.

Our little town of Belmont, NC has produced some famous people. The Jonas Brothers hail from there. I am not sure if I ever heard them sing.  They financed a restaurant in Belmont that is doing well called “Nellie’s Southern Kitchen”, named for their grandmother. We haven’t eaten there yet.

Jimmy Hall (Twins, Angels, Indians, Yankees and Braves) was in Sherry’s graduating class. He never attended the class reunions, disappointing the class.

BUT, my good friend Bill Muse did not live long enough to see two of his grandsons enter the NFL at BIG salaries. One from Clemson one from USC. Bill would have been one bragging dude.

Our Grandson Matt played HS Baseball. One of his friends is now in the majors.

I have Grandsons who attended School in Belmont also. I am just as proud of ALL of them as Bill would have been for his grands. Our GRANDSONS and GRANDAUGHTER have a great work ethic, all are doing well in the professions they have chosen. The ones who have families now make us even more PROUD.

Fame and Love would be great if you had them both; BUT  FAME is illusive and overrated, it takes a very wise person to handle it methinks. BUT LOVE is not overrated nor illusive (It is there for ALL), when I see and hug our family, there could be no better feeling and I could not be MORE PROUD!.

We have seen several 'men of fame' at airports but never met them. Have you personally met 'one' of fame? Myra was in TV me thinks, she probably has.

Nite Shipslog

PS: Howard, a cousin, has been filmed with at least 50 movie stars of fame if that counted. LOL

PS: Famous restaurants…..

Did you hear about the restaurant on the moon? Great food; no atmosphere.

PS3: Sherry just read the post. She and her nieces ate Nellie's, Food was good! (I didn't know she went places without me! LOL)

I love this post, Jack. (And not just because of the shout out, haha.) It took me years to realize, Famous Folk are often mistakenly idolized. Not pointing fingers here; I used to be a silly teenage fan. No, I believe the REAL heroes are those like you pointed out who quietly and consistently go out and do their jobs not expecting acclaim.

I haven't met anyone of fame and probably won't lol :) I like how Myra summed it all up with who the real heroes are! I know everyone is proud in your family of the success of the grands! To have a good work ethic is indeed a good thing!

Thank you for mentioning the unsung heroes in our lives.

God bless you and your family.

I'm mostly known as 'MA' said...

There are no stars in my family history. I do however think they are all stars and outshine any celebrity. Myra and you both said it well, we have everyday heroes that live right among us! It seems as though lots of stars are opening their own restaurants, but we don't have any around here.
