Never too late to remember and mention.

Today no car, but a small USN ship from WWII (Not the present subject ship)

For today:

I wanted to mention it on the actual Memorial Day, but I held it off until late.  Our Families were fortunate. Sherry’s brother ‘Lefty’ Harris (USMC) and my Brother ‘Junior’ Darnell (USN) served in some fierce battles in the South Pacific, including Iwo Jima; both returned home, Lefty was wounded on Iwo.

But of all our kin including cousins and uncles also returned.

However my BIL Sonny’s family lost a son, Sonny's brother “A.G. Helms Jr."  He was lost at sea when his ship was sunk by a German Torpedo. YOU can imagine, not a grave, and the body was never recovered. The family only had memories and a Flag of the country for which he gave his life.

Adrian Gaiti Helms, Seaman First Class….. He gave all….

Yes Memorial Day does mean a lot.

PS: Makes sense!!!

And he was so young! Thankful for those who willingly go and fight for our country and freedom, knowing they might not come back home to their loved ones. Was just talking with my husband tonight and on either side of our family we have been blessed not to have lost anyone in any war.

So sad that your BIL's brother's body was never recovered. That had to be hard for the family. Hard to find closure when something like that happens. So young too. What a sacrifice he made. Bless his heart.

Let us not forget. We owe them a great debt. May they rest in peace.

Over here, Memorial Sunday is the one nearest to 11 November.

God bless.

I love the quote about Common Sense dancing. I am only aware of losing one uncle in WWII. I still keep in touch with his daughter, my cousin,, who really never knew him at all. Such a tragedy so many young died way too soon, but they were doing what they considered there duty to their country. We were so blessed to have them all fighting for our freedom. We should never forget them and all they gave. It's never to late to remember. You got that right !

My high school boyfriend went down in his plane over Thailand, sad memories when we lose people we love go way too early.
Agree with "MA" about the Common Sense! Happy belated Memorial Day to y'all. Love, Glenda

No matter how one serves, when there is significant loss, it hurts deep and long. Thank You, Jack, for serving over and over again. With all the unfair, unrest in our own country during war times of the 60's, I was terrified I'd never see my twin again from the Vietnam war. He came home to us but has never, to this day, been able to open up about it. I'm sorry for your loss thru Sonny. Such a tragedy. The hardest thing for me would be no closure. God rest his soul over and over again.
love n' hugs from up north where the new step-in shower is finally in and we love it. I feel safer already! No more stepping over a tub.!!!
