The Cuban

When I look at a blank page now, I wonder what is there? I have yet to start putting meat to the two books I have moving around in my head. When personal problems take the front seat it is hard to concentrate.

rv-show

We were invited to go to a RV show with the Carters from Eustis yesterday. We gladly accepted, they are fun folks to be with and he is a little older than I, which makes me feel better. Ha!

While stationed in GITMO our family fell in love with the ‘Cuban Sandwich’. The ones we bought were made by one of the Cuban’s in Exile. The man was an artist with his sandwiches. You could plan on about 10 minutes for the first sandwich and about half that for any more you ordered. I loved to watch the guy; he seemed to place the meat and cheese like he was working a puzzle on each sandwich. He then pressed them. He used either homemade bread or purchased loaf bread.

Friends in Belmont, who had moved to Belmont from Lutz, FL, told Sherry of a place called Larry’s Deli, north of Lutz, they said the sandwich was out of this world. When we went out we put the address in the GPS and headed down there after the RV show. 60 miles to get a sandwich? Yeah, now it was a good sandwich, but it was not in the class with Juan’s. When someone does something perfect, ‘tis hard to climb higher.

saur

(I have searched hundreds of pictures of Saur Kraut, and these ain’t close to the shredded delicacy we had)

Talking about good, we had some Saur Kraut day before yesterday that was ‘out of this world’ good. It was being held for a special occasion. Sherry decided then was a special occasion. Mel, of ‘Up North with Mel’ made and canned the kraut. She is good, it was tender (but not too tender) just the right amount of tang. Thanks Mel, it made our day and brought back memories of you, Slim & Sam (and of course everyone from up in your neck of the woods).

Thanks for coming by the log. I appreciate you taking the time.

Mercy, that sandwich looks good. I'll have to take a picture of the 'Hum-Dinger' the next time I make it. Bill was so sick today so we cancelled company for the Packer/Falcon game. We were going to have a 'Hum-Dinger', large enough to feed at least 5-6 people. I don't think I have ever had Mel's saurkraut, and mine is gone. hmmmm
Have yourselves a great time in all that warm air.

RV shows are always a lot of fun and it amazes me what they have come out with now. Lots of RV;s are better than most peoples homes. I like to look but my little camper in the woods will be the only thing that I'll ever have and I call it paradise anyway. That sandwich looks like it could serve 5 or 6 people for sure. I hope your Sunday is a great one.

Love that sandwich! Nothing better than "Po-boy" hot tamale sandwiches though. I'm sure they would be even better in Cuba. As for the kraut - I like it, but not crazy about it. I prefer the greasy messy Cuban type sandwich.

ahhh... Jack & Sherry ~ you flatter me. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed the kraut that Slim and I made.

Did you unfold the boat yet and get it wet?
