Reading Magazines

Sherry has chosen a luxury she has not always enjoyed. She gets her nails done semi-regularly.  I offered her my pocket knife, but it didn’t seem to quite fit.  So when she needs a ‘fill’ or the other words used in that profession, we head out to find a Nail Boutique.

The last time I waited inside and was looking at some magazines.(No popular Mechanics mags avail) Magazines that feature the rich and famous and all their problems. Affairs, children problems, divorce, etc. The more I read the more I realized just how lucky I am. Many people have wanted to be famous or high profile popular. I think maybe I did, although there was not much chance of that.

We had a close friend, Harold Woods, a very good ball player. A South paw known as ‘Smokey’. He made it to the pros and in the mean time married a wonderful lady. I lost track of Harold, but soon heard he had QUIT the pro team and took a job.  I ran into him one day, very unusual because we no longer lived in the same states.

I asked him why he quit. What happened?  He said, “I was doing great, Jack, but if you will notice the schedule of the pro teams, you will see we were on the road constantly, It is tough to have a family, and we wanted one. So we chose between the team and family. We could not be happier.

My friend Jim Arp, is sort of a recluse now, fame and fortune wasn’t all he thought it was cracked up to be in a band and movies.

I can understand the VERY POPULAR & Rich getting up set at cameras and mike’s pushed in their face all the time. Pictures being taken from a half mile away from a plane or mountain overlooking some private site. Yes, I can understand that.

I read about the McCready girl, Mindy. In an interview with The Associated Press three years ago, she summarized her world as “a giant whirlwind of chaos all the time,” adding, “My entire life things have been attracted to me and vice versa that turn into chaotic nightmares or I create the chaos myself.”

She took her own life at 37. The story was depressing, I asked myself why do people read these things?  Is it to see that we are not as bad off as we think? That girl should have just begun to live. News and magazines can be depressing.

I was Glad to see Sherry under the ultra-violet lights drying her nails. They were pretty as usual and I pictured her scratching my back with them in wild passion ……………………..well an old man can still dream!  LOL

Life with jack & Sherry, thanks for coming by the log.

I know that you and Sherry are blessed beyond measure.
Enjoy that back scratch. Purring is allowed.

I think it would be near impossible to be rich and famous and be normal. Even Justin Beiber has been caught with drugs. I think it is commendable for someone to value their family more then their money!

I would not want to be rich or famous. That kind of life is no life at all. I'm sad to see so many sports players in trouble with sex or drugs these days. Seems one more is always in the news. I remember my boys admiring sport stars and having favorites. Sad role model for kids today. Glad to count my wealth in things that matter like faith, family and friends. It's been an over cast day here but no rain. Made a trip to the country for some fresh produce. Now I'm going to have a wonderful dinner. Some summer squash, green beans, cukes and fruit salad made with melon and peaches. Hope you all are enjoying a wonderful Monday!

May I continue down my path of recluse and happy at it. I don't mind the slower pace of life we have chosen, however, I wouldn't mind a few more jaunts a distance away once in awhile. I see the road through your windshield and for that, I'm grateful. I'm sure you got that back-scratch by now and enjoyed every second of it.
Awww, life is good

Good for Sherry. I like those nails too and tried them a while but they didn't go well with the yard work. Now I treat myself to a massage every Thursday at the beauty salon.

When I was very young, I thought I should like to be famous someday. Now, however, I think being able to enjoy solitude is a better blessing. I realize that I don't want to be a celebrity to a lot of people; I just want to be significant in my small realm of influence.

And yeah, what's with the poor choice of magazines in the salon?
You might have to take your own next time.
