Early interesting Cars:
Another one Rose sent to me.

But for today:
: a woman's ornate cap popular in the late 17th and early 18th centuries

: a low chest of drawers

I also remember a large bowl and picture being referred to as a commode.

(This one sits in our bedroom. A friend, Paul Gesek, taught me ceramics during a family separation. Sherry was already living in Key West and I was in Albany, GA awaiting a move of the Naval Base.)

Then why is this called a ‘commode?’

(Nice place for a nap in the summer)

Anyway our hall bathroom commode has had a crack for years. It is a hairline crack and has never leaked. I know it should be changed so Sherry and I went to Lowes.  Like everything else in this world (such as ladies panty hose (L’eggs)) there are hundreds of choices, it seems.

Of course I went to the cheap one white, elongated, and height higher than standard. My Girl said she did not like elongated, so I picked one she liked. They serve the same purpose!

I found a flat cart to haul it on, came back, grabbed the box and it would not move! WHAT? They are making everything heavier these days. (SMILE). A gentle man passing by (on a cane no less) offered to help load it. (I am sorta stubborn, probably a lot like Tom) I refused the help saying, “Ah, I appreciate the offer but my girl can load this!”

I waited until he was out of sight and WE finally got it on the cart. We paid for it and went out to the car. This time, some ‘smart Alec’ kid, getting off work walked up as I was looking at the box, reached around it picked it up and loaded it without a second thought.

(I hit him! Making me look bad in front of my girlfriend!) NOT!

I actually THANKED him and turned to my girl and said, “I could have done that,” then for the kids benefit, “A few years ago!”  The kid smiled and went running off.
He is now home thinking how easy that was, and how hard this is!
(thanks for taking time to read this drivil!)

Nite Shipslog

PS: The COMMODE is still in the back of the car. I will get it out and install it, but it will not be as simple as it was a few years ago. At this time, I cannot see what can go wrong.

LOL- Oh- the indignities heaped upon us by age. My right hand is so much weaker than it was even a year ago. Drives me nuts! I am one of those people that HATES to have to ask for help after being able to 'do all' for my whole life. lol

Good luck with the crappy job ahead of you! LOL Hugs- Diana

Talk about an attention-getting headline! Seems I've heard of the bowl and picture, but NEVER an ornate cap or chest of drawers. You made that pretty ceramic picture and bowl? Wow.

I remember having to replacing a toilet before we listed our home in Arizona. Like y'all, I was astounded at the selection (we went 'cheap') … as well as its sheer weight. Ugh, heave-ho. Not a pretty sight. Both of the commodes in this place need replacing at some point down the road, but I'm not looking forward to the process.

PS - Ha-ha-ha (about Tom).

And that is why we call plumbers lol when dealing with problems like this. Good luck with the installation!
