Memorable Automobiles from The Past:
For today:
Over the
years we have invited our pastors out to dinner. This time we got a call from a
former pastor’s wife inviting us over for dinner. She was having Chicken and
dumplings. My mama served me chicken and
dumplings all my life. Sherry is not a C & D eater nor cooker. So she
readily accepted on my behalf because she knows I love ‘em.
We had
a great time talking and learning of their younger years. They are both real Floridians, born and
raised here. Their families however are from SC and GA,
WE call
them Brother and Sister Carter, they are Wayne and Joyce. Their second marriage,
both mates past on. They are a good
match and we are proud for them. They
just sold their larger home and moved into a small 700 sqft 2BR place. A major
down size for them.
They
both have wonderful families.
Joyce
cooked: Chicken Dumplings, sweet potato casserole, lima beans, chic/rice,
collards, cornbread and a delicious slaw. We had tea/coffee and Peach Cobbler w/vanilla
ice cream. A feast fit for royalty. It
was all delicious.
WE have
a good time, they are good friends. Friends are special. They like their
neighbors and the neighborhood. A win-win situation.
Preachers come in all sizes and back grounds. Wayne was a stock car driver and worked in auto-parts before he became a minister. He organized and built his church and pastored it for 40 years. doing well. he is easy to talk with and I enjoy his escapades. He is also older than I and I like that. LOL
That is
on my mind… Friends and the good life.

LOL with Joshua and the "son" and "sun" :)
Sounds like a fun time with dinner and the food sounded delicious too! Good comfort food I do believe!
Our pastor was a fireman/paramedic before he stopped that and went into full time ministry. He and his wife started the church in their living room and as it grew they rented out various buildings including an old nightclub for services until there was finally enough money and membership to build a permanent church building. People laughed when they came to the church at the nightclub saying they used to get drunk there and now they got saved there :)
betty
It is good to have friends. Over here we make dumplings with flour and water, like a bread dough, which we then put in a stew. Mostly beef or lamb stew.
God bless y'all.
Oh, the irony! ... Pastor Janet and Andy were just here, working on the land and needed to borrow Tom's sledgehammer. He said, we really should invite them over for supper again. We've met some of the sweetest folks down here through the church.
I've never tasted chicken and dumplings. Wondering, if the dumpling is akin to the matzo ball?
You and your dumplings sound delicious. My grandmothers both made dumplings and chicken.
I haven't made chicken and dumplings in a long time and now you have made me hungry for them. The meal you had truly was a feast! How nice to have friend that invites you to eat what you wouldn't get otherwise. Hope she sent some left overs home with you !
My youngest sister makes the best chicken and dumplings similar to a stew. She learned how during her 37 yrs. in TX. I need to request them again. You certainly had a feast with all the side dishes and Peach Cobbler too. Today will be a feast at the farm as we celebrate my brother's 66th birthday. I wish my siblings would stop getting older cuz it sure ages this ol' gal. They are all my dearest friends tho too so they're forgiven. lol
loven'hugs from up north where Andy's family is putting taps in today to start their maple syruping for the family....so much fun for a growing family as they carry on a tradition started by my GGG grandparents. Life is sweet!
