Some thoughts for today:
Having dealt with family problems associated with
illegal drugs, I was hurt, shocked to see that several of our Cadets from West
Point were involved in over doses here in Florida. TWo in veryserious condition still. A terrible sign of the
times. There was a time when we had the cream of the crop attending our
military academies. Young men and women
with their heads on straight, desiring to assist in leading our countries
military. Most of our officers got where they are because of what they know and
produce, a few got there because of political connections (Like any
organization or business).
I mentioned this in another entry called
‘Collateral Damage.’ Most applicants
truly work to get into the Academies. There are senators and congressmen who
stick their necks out and recommend candidates. Many are from well-known
families in Towns and Cities. When the
names are released I KNOW families will suffer.

As an old guy, I also wonder about organized sports
down to the 4 yr olds. I feel for parents whose life is spent delivering and
picking up kids after working the 8 hour day and 40 hour week. And especially
the single parents who must do most of it…..

Cars? Notice
how many cars are required in a family today?
We all know how expensive insurance is especially for 16-19 year olds.
Hey, and the parking space required at the new homes. Funny that, when I was
building I thought a double garage was the cat’s meow.

Gas? What is your standard practice about
fill-ups? For most of my years when our gauges hit ½ it was time. Now since I am OLD, if I am not careful, it
will reach ‘E’xcitement.
I do have to change that because the prices are climbing pretty fast, so
I am going to try to keep it near the ‘F’un.
When I worked at a service station I heard,
“Gimme a dollars’ worth,” I didn’t hear “Fill ‘er UP, too often, and
gas was 29 cents a gallon!”

I'd not heard that story of the West Point cadets. Shaking my head, you know? I'd just like to look them in the eye and ask, "Why?"
Ya, guess I'm telling on myself (age) about gas prices. My BF and I'd put a quarter's worth of gas in her Morris Minor that would last us all Friday night. Too, I remember when people said, "No way gas would rise to $1/gallon." Do you suppose we're going to witness a big change in America's driving habits -- or if this, too, will pass. So happy to be retired!
That is sad about the West Point cadets. I hadn't heard the story either. We fill up when we get to half a tank. Hubby has always done that and feels safer doing that in case gas is hard to find. Son, on the other hand, used to drive past E for empty. He would know his gas gauge and would say "I can go another 20 miles before I need to get gas." He only ran out of gas one time lol and that was because he was stuck in a traffic jam :)

Those drug dealers prey on young people when Spring Break brings them to Florida. I hope they catch whoever sold those drugs to the Cadets.
Sad to say but drugs seem to a big part of all walks of life anymore. Thankfully I've never had to deal with that aspect of life. But alcoholism runs in the family and I have warned all the kids to the bad effects of that. Like drugs it can ruin a life. There is so much to live for, why take a chance. Life is a gift and we should honor that.
