Big Breakfast, Friends and More Chevrolets

This morning we ate at ‘L. George’s Coney Island’ again with Jerry & Debbie. This time I splurged and had the two extra large eggs and Ham. The ham is city ham but it is a giant slice. I gave Sherry a little bit of it and ate the rest. I did leave some of the grits.

We have decided to go to the hospital late (after noon) and stay late, or until Johnny hits the pillow for the night. He is afraid of getting cold again and wants Sherry there to protect him. Ha! It is good that he feels he can depend of her.

He is probably sorry for the time as a child he wasn’t fair for Christmas. One of their stories is about exchanging names as a family and Sherry got Johnny’s name and he got hers. I think she bought him something for a fifty cents or a dollar and he bought her a nickel Milky Way and wrapped it up. Sherry wasn’t happy. Hahahaha

Johnny has some great friends here. Some have been there every day for the past 4-5weeks. Some every other day. Wild Bill and ‘Debbie & Jerry’ are regulars.

I have a problem hearing but I do enjoy being with Jerry. He is originally from West Virginia and the coal mine country. His dad was a coal miner. When he turned 16 it was time to leave home or go underground in the mines. Jerry said it didn’t take but one trip into the mines to tell him he had better listen to the call of the sea and ‘Bell bottom Trousers’. He joined the USN then after his enlistment was up, he headed for Detroit and the Auto industry. Like Johnny, he is retired from GM.

There are a lot of stories up here, probably many book written of experiences and friendships welded here.

PS:

I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teamup to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

My first car was like this 1948 Convertible, I did not know that it was the Indy Pace car that year! I loved that car!

It's great Johnny has such good friends. You know that means a lot. He is probably missing going out to breakfast with them himself. Take good care!

Your coherence to the needs of another is wonderful. I'll bet Sherry never dreamed that one of your winters would be spent in snow country. I admire you two and love your dedication to family.
Hope Johnny is back to his ol self soon and that the two of you are getting some rest also.
Sorry I missed a couple of your entries....busy, busy week and weekend.

I liked the Chevies!! all cool vehicles!! sounds like a delicious breakfast and it is so neat to hear of John's friends coming to visit; great friendships that have endured many a year and trial I would imagine!! I too think one day in the coal mine would have been enough for me too, good Jerry made the wise decision to pursue a different career path!!
