Do ants sleep?

Since being in Florida, it has lived up to Son Jack’s name for it, “The state of Liquid Sunshine”. We have had RAIN. Rain must make ants look for higher ground because I found a bunch on my night stand in the bedroom.

My first impression was start killing them, but then I thought I would check out the new ant baits I bought months ago. so I put one among them and let them be. It was a hard thing to do, but I left them alone.

I checked every few hours, still active. In the night I shined a flash light, still running around none of them suckers sleeping.

During the day they thinned some, but still very busy. Less stirring the next night. I just checked at the end of the 2nd day, NO ANTS.  I am pleased with the results, that is for sure.

Speaking of insects, MJ is being aggravated by something here in the grass. She has scratched her belly raw where she can reach with her back legs. Even with a magnifying glass nothing can be found, fleas, bugs, etc.

(MJ adapts to any vehicle, down here mark has a scooter and he has to sneak off from her or she cries to go. Like me, she is deaf)

Any suggestions? Mark took her to the vet who prescribed something, but it has not worked.  My suggestion was to rub her down with those ‘Bounce’ dryer sheets, We did not have any so that hasn’t been tried yet.

Thanks for stopping by the log.  You are a good egg.

PS:

We are going down to help mark get ready for the closing. A few things to do, mostly move him out.

Sounds like a flea allergy....my fur babies suffer from the same thing...we switched to a new heart worm med that has a flea/tick preventative in it and spray their run twice a year....seems to be working ...No quick trips to the vet for a cortisone shots this year...Poor baby...give her a scratch for me, max, mia and lulabell....

Never thought of it before but I think ants don't sleep. They come in my window under the air conditioner sometime. I put out little water bottle caps filled with corn meal. It works but takes time.

Let me know if the bounce works - poor Disco itches and we give him one benedryl in the am and one in the pm. It may be those ants that never go to sleep - you know they are hard workers.

I had them visiting my kitchen. I can't understand how they know
where my kitchen is located and
come up to see what I have to eat.

I found where they were coming in
and put Ant Killer in the round
container and they are gone. I don't think they sleep and on a constant mission to find food and bug people. Their life is a mystery to me.

Nothing more annoying than ants; glad the strip worked though! No clue to help MJ, does sound like an allergic reaction to something. Could try a Benadryl, like Sandie suggested, and that might help calm her down a bit.

Ants are just plan irritating. Poor MJ. Hope you find what's bothering the dog, so it can get some relief soon.

Once upon a time (ca '58) I used to have ant farms ... thank you, Daddy. Since then I've grown up and come to my senses - they creep me out! When we had 'unwelcomed company' a few years back someone suggested using "Terro" (drops form). I've never seen anything like it, and we always keep a little bottle on hand just in case.

Poor MJ! I'd go with the Benadryl like others have suggested. Makes you feel so helpless when our fur babies are struggling!

I found that even though a dog might not have fleas they can still be allergic...one of my dogs had to take the flea meds and another to stop the itching from the allergy. Poor dog. I do hope a remedy comes soon. Also know some that have a grass allergy. Glad you had success with the ant traps. They are pests and rain does bring them out. Hope things brighten up there soon for you all and the dog.
