For today:There are advantages to moving and advantages of remaining in one area during your lifetime. Sherry’s sister Colette married Sonny (who later became my closest friend). Sonny never lived more than 5 blocks from where he was born. He was born at a mill village in Paw Creek NC. His parents worked in the mill, and when he was old enough he worked in the mill. He remained at the mill village until the Mill was closed and sold. He then bought one of the mill houses and lived there until he passed away. In our life time we have had over 25 addresses.
I was always amazed that Sonny planted four or five oak trees around that house. When he planted them they were 1” little poles. When he passed away they were giant oaks I could not reach around. Sonny was a homeboy. Not many people live to grow their on shade.
He and Colette visited us only once in all the places we lived. They came to Washington DC and enjoyed the tourist time there, but were anxious to get home.
Same class, 2016 Most still within 20 miles of their birth.
This all came up because of what I have said for years. Sherry and I have gone into a McDonalds and grocery stores in every state and many counties in this USA. We can go in and leave in a normal length of time. BUT in Belmont, NC, huh uh! Just yesterday a stranger walked over to Sherry and asked if she knew Betty D, you look just like her.
From that they learned as all hometowner’s do, they know the same IMPORTANT people, beauticians, etc. As they talked, a man came over and asked jokingly if she was bothering us. “Yes, I know I am,” she said, “I need to let y’all alone.” Then continued to talk 10 more minutes. LOL
We stopped by their table and learned that we both knew of the man’s family, he was the grandson of one of the towns police chiefs, Chief Hoover. I jokingly said I knew your Grandpa President Hoover. Without skipping a beat he said, “You should have known my uncle Vacuum Hoover!”
That is hometown people, tight group! Are you one?

I love when older people are quick witted and funny. We know how to joke without being mean. When I married I lived a block and a half from my mom and dad. My girls used to sing at Thanksgiving, "Down the street and across the tracks to gramma house we go." I know you have heard that old saying Grow where you are planted. Some us had to. I did have great wonderlust and have traveled and seen a lot...but not nearly what I wanted to see. I loved your story of just meeting people. Blessings to you and your Sherry, xoxo, Susie
LOL with my Uncle Vacuum Hoover! Good sense of humor! That was an interesting picture; Sherry graduated in a big group of students! Wow how many stuck in the area too. In my recent background check I had to do for church, I had to list every city I lived in (there would be in some cities multiple places I lived). I had 11 cities I had lived in and most I lived in 2 separate places during our time there so we had almost the same amount of addresses you and Sherry had. There are advantages of both; sticking around and making roots and shade or getting out there and exploring new areas by living in them. Since I like to go incognito a lot, I like that we don't know too many people in this town. That will change as over the next few months hubby will be retiring and we'll start getting more active in church.

As ... This gives me the feels! Your Sonny sounds exactly like my former favorite boss, back in Abilene. Sometimes I wonder how my life would have turned out, had I not wanted more-more-more.
I live in the town I was born in. Guess I''ll stay for the duration too. Sadly most of my family all but two moved away. I never thought of that when they were all young before they grew up. It's good living in familiar surroundings and moving won't be an option for me. I like it where I'm at. Although I'd say having children in different places is an added bonus as I've got to see a lot of the country that way.
