More Mountains

Autos of beauty
 And then there are Cable cars! I like them too!

For today:
The USA & Canadian Rockies are breath taking. We encountered some of the Canadian Rockies At Lake Louise and on our drive to Alaska. The lakes are so deep, nestled in those mountains it is close to unbelievable. We did not see the Great Slave Lake it is over 2000 feet deep. We did see the famous Lake Labarge it is over 500 ft. deep.

I have blogged about The Cremation of Sam McGee, written during the Gold Rush. I really liked that poem. LOL
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.
Now Sam McGee was from Tennessee etc 14 more verses.

But back to mountains, we did see Denali (MT McKinley) but not the peak. They tell us that the peak is seldom in view due to clouds. But it was awesome.

Sherry hiked me up Mt Whitney to the first glacier. We loved the Mts of TN,VA,WVA and Pennsylvania. The mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine are some tough mountains to climb. The Whites of New Hampshire did us in. LOL

We did drive to Northern Maine to climb Mt. Katahdin, one tough trip for my girl, there were a couple scary moments, but well worth it. We were young then, in our mid 60s.
 Katahdin Summit

This next picture is the entrance to the Eisenhower Tunnel thru the mt. peak.
 BUT for a drive, I rate crossing the Rockies from Denver into Utah as the most beautiful drive (short) I remember (next to the Alaskan trip). That drive goes thru the famous Skiing area of Vail. The highway follows the Eagle River thru that deep gorge and at times it is so narrow that The West bound lanes are above East Bound lanes. It seems you can touch the rocky passage walls.

Yep something there is about Mountains and North America is one beautiful continent from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

"From California to the New York Island …. this land is made for you and me." What sights you've experienced! I've only taken one of those gondolas/cable cars once in my life. I can't even tell you about the scenery on account I was too terrified something would break (and we'd go *boom*). The Eisenhower tunnel route and the village of Vail are some of my all-time favorite places!
