Autos of beauty
There was a song, 'Fun until daddy took the T-Bird away!' If I had this it would be my gift to my Valentine.
For today:
I was 14/15, that was about 1954, I saw her for the first time.
She was just the right size, beautiful, a cute smile and a long brunette pony
tail wearing a long skirt with crinoline slips holding it out. She was ahead of
me going into church. Oh, she also had beautiful ankles in Bobbie sox.
(She could blow bubbles!)
She was an older girl, so I could not be interested, but I filed
those ‘ankles’ away in my brain, ‘I know that girl must have ‘Betty Grable’
legs.’
A couple years later, at 16, I did ask that 17 year old girl for a
date, the sweetie said YES. I was such a fine gentleman she let me kiss her on
the first date. I had just gotten my driver’s license and could use dad’s car
to haul people to church. Dad bought me a 1948 Chevy Convertible. I was cool as
a cucumber.
The song ‘Seventeen’ by Boyd Bennet was popular that year:
. Seventeen, seventeen
Cool and solid seventeen
Young enough to dance and sing
Old enough to get that swing
Passed sixteen, just been kissed
Graduated and got that twist
The kind of love I can't resist
At seventeen
Now, sloppy shirt, old blue jeans
Dirty shoes, by all means
Patch of blonde, peroxide hair
Jukebox, baby, ain't no square
Seventeen, hot rod queen
Cutest girl you've ever seen
Tell the world I'm really keen
On my hepcat doll of seventeen
Cool and solid seventeen
Young enough to dance and sing
Old enough to get that swing
Passed sixteen, just been kissed
Graduated and got that twist
The kind of love I can't resist
At seventeen
Now, sloppy shirt, old blue jeans
Dirty shoes, by all means
Patch of blonde, peroxide hair
Jukebox, baby, ain't no square
Seventeen, hot rod queen
Cutest girl you've ever seen
Tell the world I'm really keen
On my hepcat doll of seventeen
………
Yep I asked her to marry me and She said YES! We were married September 22, 1956 about 64 years ago, She is still the ‘Cutest Girl you’ve ever seen.’ And ah ha, I pulled that filed memory out about her legs, “YEP, Betty Grable LEGS!
