Okay, I want to get serious about submitting my taxes. I don’t want
this to be a habit. So I wanted to ask ANYONE who reads this stuff to let me
know in a comment or e-mail if you use some Tax app to do your own taxes.
I have heard a few
comments on how easy it is. I always do
our own by simply reading the instructions. I laugh to myself and many times
out loud as I read the instructions on whether we must pay tax on our Social
Security or how much of it is taxable.
The math gyrations and exercises are actually funny and I wonder who
comes up with: Take 80% of line 15 (none of this is accurate, just an example),
add it to line 36. Now take 63% of line 37. Is it larger or smaller of line 15?
If larger take 33% of the larger and subtract from line 98. Is line 99 larger
or smaller than line 36? Etc, etc. It seems crazy and no rhyme nor reason, but
I go thru it.
So since I am
getting older and maybe ‘less sharp’ than when I was a young 65, I think I need
some help. Please let me know you feelings if you use or have used any app to
do your taxes. Even if you have heard
from some of your family. I am going to check the net now. But I sorta like to
hear from someone who has used one.

Went to Post Office Yesterday Morning, Mailed out 2 items you will like ! I have 2 Painters Masks my Nephew brought me and man are those things "Hot" to breathe in, My Niece gave me a couple and there Hot ! I used to pay the bucks and have our accountant do the taxes. I was never much good and reading those confusing instructions. He made it see easy. Besides all the tax forms I also had student aide forms to fill out when the kids were in college. They were often just as confusing. It's a wonder to this day that they managed to make it thru. Seems to me there must be an easier way . Good luck with yours. Sorry I'm no help here.
Jokes about dementia aside, I figure I've only so many brain cells left -- and I don't want to waste them trying to interpret tax laws! I only regret not having used Turbo Tax program earlier. However, By the time I agreed to all the ala'carte (protection) features, it became a bit pricey. This year, I got to investigating FREE software for folks 65+ -- all of which have been vetted by the IRS. I went with one called OLT (On Line Taxes) and was actually happier with their customer service/tutorials than Turbo Tax.
Never used any app for getting taxes done but have heard success from others who did use Turbo Tax. I just always worried I would mess something up and end up owing big money to the IRS. Let us know what you find out if you do use an app.

My hubs is a CPA and uses Turbo Tax too. I am going to show him the site Myra sent tho for us oldies.
The last time I had Blocks do my taxes years ago, she used an app and I could see how easy it was. The next year I used turbo tax and it was so easy. Try it please. You will love it.
We used H&R do ours for years, then had free taxes done by retired accountants thru AARP. It was right at our bank and free and convenient. Good luck making a decision which one you'll use. Taxes were one thing I never wished to tackle with the ' rules ' changing yearly. The rusty, trusty car you show is about right with refunds.

Once, I decided to use an online tax return company [can't remember which one - early onset] but, I got nervous and sure enough made a mistake. I use a lady who's not an account, but a heck of a taxpayer. It's fifty bucks and she's never made a mistake the IRS has challenged. That's my two cents. There's a comfort zone when she takes charge of the routine!!!
We use an accountant. My kids use TurboTax and like that. Good luck! Many senior citizen centers have folks that will help you.
I do not trust myself to doing my own taxes. I have a sister that does her own. She never gets anything back. We think she is not doing it right. We have our taxes done at Pace Tax and Accounting (he’s a cousin of mine).
It cost us a bit to get them completed but we know they are done correctly and with all the benefits we can legally get out of it. Also if there are any mistakes, the tax preparer is responsible.
