Onward Northeasterly, with a stop in the edge of the Catskills

(Before I start, Bonnie informs me that is the Conestoga River in my last Blog, and she is right. I can fine it with the name. hahaha)

It is less than 300 miles to Rondout Valley where we will stay for a week as I prepare myself and pack for some back packing time. The drive was over cast and a little rain, but the roads were ROUGH! Complicated by my getting lost leaving PA and topped by seeing a 9 foot over pass coming up and we are 12.75 high. Quick turn to work around the tunnel.

My hiking plans were to go on up to the 100 mile wilderness that I attempted last time up. But circumstances and available RV sites have changed that approach. After New York, We will stop in Hanover, Maine and I will attempt to hike from Gorham, NH to Grafton Notch in Maine.  This 2-4 day hike covers the Muhoosic  Notch which is agreed by hikers as the toughest part of the 2176 miles.

My thoughts, if I cannot do this, I will drop the idea and agree with some of my family, I have waited to late to finish the trail. Anyway that is the plans. So we are on the road Monday July 14th headed to New York’s stop as a preparatory step.

Sherry is going to be my trail angel, and assist as I DO this.  I feel okay. My knee that was giving me some trouble awhile back is doing well and I feel fit. I probably need a diet of dried fruit and Ramein noodles and water for awhile to get some weight off.

(Pictures taken on this trip in 2012 near Scranton, PA)

Of course this drive also crosses the AT in the Pennsylvania Mountains, so we will look for hikers as we drive thru.

And as always,  it is a beautiful drive, mostly mountain views.

PA TO NY 003

NY too, is Green.

That is an antique Case tractor up front.

PA TO NY 005

I liked this Kane truck, it says “Kane is Able”. and some other good stuff.

PA TO NY 006

This is a basket case. An old Sports Fury, this will cost a mint to restore, but it may have a lot more sentimental ties than I could imagine.

PA TO NY 007

Thanks for stopping by the log. I know you have better things to do.

You sound like you are up for a challenge there with hiking the hardest part of the trail. Glad you have your trail angel to keep checking on you. I know from reading your last experience on the AT that hiking is very difficult in places. One thing is for sure, you'll never know if you can do it if you don't try. Meanwhile enjoy the trip and get well prepared.

Yikes, I'm glad you were paying attention to that height marker well before getting too close! Y'all are nothing if not flexible! :)

So reassured that Sherry plans to be your trail angel. There's a host of us out here rooting for you!

I know Sherry will be walking alongside you as you hike this part of the trail, Jack, even though her physical presence won't be there. I hope you can accomplish your goal to do the hiking you want to get done! I am sure it will be an achievement!

Jack I hope you accomplish what
you set out to do, but remember
it is not all that important if
you don't. We are not giving
prizes to the winner. We will
welcome you back to the Beautiful
Historic Town of Belmont.

I'm pulling for you...and with your hiking angel, I just bet you will accomplish your goal!
Love the looks of the car that is headed for restoration. I'm so glad that people restore older cars.
Love them....

Having a ruff night and can't sleep so I thought I'd check out your blog. Pretty country up that away and thanks for sharing your pictures for that is as close as I will ever get to seeing that part of the country. Good luck on your hiking trip and remember all your friends will be cheering you on. Take care. Jean

I wish I had half the energy that you and Sherry have!

I've never traveled much but I love seeing the world thru your travels. I admire both of you.

Hugs, to my favorite couple!

Glad you missed hitting that 9 foot over pass. Things would have been a mess for sure.
