Cats and dogs
Early Japanese Cars
1973 Datsun 510
We had a great visit with our former Florida pastor Wayne Carter and his wife Joyce. They are such a delight to be around. When we started attending his church in Florida I told him I was attending because if was hard to find a preacher older than me. Being there I could respect my elders. Wayne is in his 80s now and started off his young life as a race car driver. This is the second marriage for both. They have wonderful close families. I only mention this because I think seniors, when they have the desire for close companionship, in the Fall of their years, should have it.
Now:
I haven’t said much about my pet (?), the feral cat lately. I have stopped feeding her on the front porch. The concrete was showing grease stains from food. I scrubbed the concrete and switched her ‘cat food’ to our basement garage door. She is adjusting well. I have put the camera down there and so far she is the only animal coming in to eat. I leave the grange door 4” high and she comes in to eat.
She has some bad scars and missing fur on the back of her neck where the Tom’s have pinned her down to mate, I am sure. I am reading more and more about having her ‘fixed’ but I hate to be the one to trap her. I would have to get a trap anyway, I do not have one.
I was replacing the screening on the motor home screen door and the little rascal had slipped in the motor home without me seeing her. As I reinstalled the screen door she bolted out. Startled me a bit. I chewed her out and she just ignored me. She sat about 6 feet from me and washed her legs and paws. LOL.
Cats are exasperating, when called, they come if they want to, which is about 1% of the time. In a way I admire the independence, she is the one who choses if I pet her or not. If I walk toward her she jumps and runs. Long before now I would have earned a dogs confidence! LOL
I sure wouldn’t mind a black Cocker Spaniel wandering in to stay. LOL Maybe he could teach Stormy some manners! ;-O It is easy to see why the cat is NOT listed as man’s best friend. LOL

Cats indeed can be elusive. She likes you though because she keeps coming around and not just for the food. Glad you had a good visit with your friends. I agree if one wants to have companionship in their "older days" and can find someone, go for it.

Sounds like Stormy has got you figured out, smart girl! And the pic of the Cocker Spaniel is adorable. Y'all have a great day.
Oh, Jack! Is this 'pix' of Ace your new book cover? I was wondering if anyone had taken you up on your offer.
For exactly the reasons you cite, I could never coexist with a cat. Why, it's 99% rejection would be the death of my self esteem. LOL!
I remember those nifty Datsuns!
My son and DIL had a feral cat - the only way they got the cat to the vet was to throw a big quilt over it and grab him. She raised him since birth! They still couldn't handle him.
We see cats roam the neighborhood but they will not come near. There is one black cat hanging around I’d love to make friends with. It’s one of those “Scottish Folds”. They have tiny flat ears that look like they do not even have any. Beautiful cats. We also have been seeing a lot of snakes around. I may have to put some kitty food out so they will get to work clearing out the serpents.

LOL- I love a cat's personality...independent and haughty most of the times. What's the old saying? You own a dog but a cat owns you!?
My dad always had two cocker spaniels when I was growing up. A blond one and a black one. The blond was always Sandy and the black one was Pete. He had two sets of them that I remember...and I hate to say this...but both Sandys were pretty dumb and the Petes were the smart ones. lol
Hope you and Sherry have a wonderful night and Sunday. x o Diana
Sad to think, but I fear Stormy's independence may be her undoing. Doesn't she realize what a good life she could have as your friend? I have to say that I did have a cat that became my best friend. Always there to greet me and often spent a lot of time curled up on my shoulder. But out of the many I did have, she was the only one that didn't insert her independence. I've had both dogs and cats for pets in the past but for now I won't take in any more. It's supposed to be a sunny day here, first in a long while. Hoping you all have a wonderful Sunday!
