INDEPENDENCE DAY, The Fourth of July (on the 5th)

Those trucks celebrating the  USA

Now today:
I know, my timing is off (just a day).
The USS Independence (CVA62) my home for a couple years.

Since I spent many years in the military, it is not unusual to say we have traveled in over 26 countries. Many were due to orders, cruises and deployments. Some were pleasure trips to see more of the world.

I know I am sort of an odd ball. In a way I do have a hometown, because I married a sweetheart who has a real hometown. She lived there the first 18 years of her life. In that same period of time I lived in 7 towns and attended 4 different schools, so I do not have ‘old friends and school mates.’ I know no one I was in school (same grade) with in the first 9 years.

I believe I could settle in another country, IF I THOUGHT ONE BETTER. But that is not the case. In my opinion this is the greatest country in the world. In reading, not visiting, I would think Australia would come close.

But I love this country with all its faults and warts. We fuss a lot. BUT there have been times in our history we have come together for the greater good, and accomplished miracles.

I DO NOT LIKE IT WHEN SOMEONE DISPARAGES THIS COUNTRY, but that is the beauty of the USA. Someone disgruntled can crucify in words our congress, all leaders even the president (as long as it is not a true threat) and not be sent to jail or killed.

Don’t get me wrong, I hurt when someone belittles my country, laws, flag, anthem and its name. Especially if they are citizens and enjoying the protection our constitution gives them. But I accept and appreciate freedom of speech.

God BLESS and SAVE the United States of America. I love this country

Great message, Jack! And photos, too! I've always been awed by aircraft carriers.
You know, I've a 'real' hometown, but I've no urge to return. In fact, I was recently compelled to (have to) 'unfriend' my high school BF. Sherry is very blessed!

I agree with all your words.

I do believe in freedom of speech, but don't people get tired of complaining? The more they complain they more worked up they get more worked up.
Sometimes you have to move on.

Just my thoughts.
GOD BLESS AMERICA - I LOVE IT HERE. WE ARE SO BLESSED!!!!

We truly are blessed here in America with all of our freedoms. I do not like when it is criticized and I don't like the current goings on with Nike (and I won't buy another pair of Nike shoes) but I'm glad we have the freedoms we have even if I don't like it when someone is exerting their rights to those freedoms in a way I don't approve of. I can't imagine living anywhere else, no other country would live up to this one. It warmed my heart to see the story on the local news of people being sworn in as American citizens yesterday. People who came here legitimately and did all that was required to become a citizen! Reminded me of my dad!

Awesome entry Jack. I love all the photos and appreciate your comments. Like the above, it's disturbing to me when we encounter the sort of recent ugly and traitorous behaviors ~ I will not ever buy another pair of Nikes either!!!

Thank you for your service to our great country. People like you that serve above and beyond are the brave that keep our country free. We owe a lot to those that have bravely fought for the rights we have today. Freedom of Speech is important. Knowing that we all can say what we want is something we often take for granted and some do abuse it, but it's up to each of us to choose our words carefully. I love the pictures of the trucks. Hope you had a great Fourth of July!
