Lee Iacocca

 you were 'Da Man'

A favorite car
1964 1/2 Mustang as displayed at the World's Fair.

1984 Dodge Caravan in the Smithsonian
Now today:
If I ever read or heard about a man that I was sure could be elected president, and make a good one, it was Lee Iacocca. The man was an amazing communicator, organizers and business man. I hoped for years he would run for office.
Under his leadership the Mustang came into being and made Ford millions.  Leaving Ford he took over a failing Chrysler Corporation and put it in the black with the innovation called the ‘minivan’.
“Cutting off your nose to spite your face.” As I read Lee’s autobiography he said, “After the success of the Mustang Mr. Ford called me into his office and said, ‘You are fired’!”
I asked, “WHY?”
“Because I just do not like you, I know we will never again see a success like the Mustang’ but I don’t care, I just do not like you.”

I could not believe someone in a position like H. Ford II would be that ignorant. I bought and read Henry Ford II biography. His record of the firing was practically word for word.
I am sure that made the FORD stock holders very happy (not).
That said, the world was better in many ways because of Lee I. He raised hundreds of millions to restore the statue of liberty and Ellis Island. I just hope we have one of the same stature, a knight in shining armor who can pull our fragmented, but wonderful country together in the foreseeable future.
Who do you see a qualified up and coming PERSON, A STATESMAN in the back ground? (Politician or public figure, any party) I’m groping in the dark.
Like all citizens I have my own opinions of presidents, I have known 14 of them. I remember, but was too young to appreciate or dislike FDR, but Truman, Eisenhower and Reagan are my top picks of the ones I really remember, as positive.
That is all there is at this time..

(We owned several mini vans but never owned a Mustang, did you?)
PS: My best friend in the world, Sonny Helms and I disagreed on politics. We all see things different, I never argue politics or religion, makes life easier. (Arguing politics is like trying to convince Sherry that chocolate ain’t all that good!) LOL

I never talk politics or religion with others either. Like you, I had hoped Iacocca would throw his hat into the political ring. I think he would have made an awesome contender for office.

Never owned a Mustang but did have a few mini vans, LOL. Come to think of it, never owned a Ford either. I leave politics to those who know more about it than I do :)

Great analogy there … Sherry v. chocolate!
I didn't know that story of Iacocca and Ford. Leads me to wonder if the latter wasn't a bit unhinged. I think Iacocca would have made a fine President, too. Going out on a limb here … but since you asked? (*smile*) Methinks there's no reason to change the occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

What an interesting post! Learned a few things that I hadn't known before. Politics is a difficult subject, I think we all have a point of view, we just don't always share them. Being a President is a very difficult job, and some have done better than others for sure. There are times I've been outvoted, my own DDH always voted the opposite of what I did, but that didn't stop me from voting.

I didn’t have a cool 64 but my first car was a ‘79 mustang then later on we bought a 98 mustang. Rick drove Ford trucks but the last two were/are Chevrolet.
Hope you two are doing well!
